Anyone else not like bootcut jeans?

Just that really? I keep reading that they are back and really flattering so I tried a pair of slim bootcut jeans. Good fit but the flappy bottom material looks weird and they make my (not very long) legs look short and dumpy. Is it just conditioning? I am small and fairly curvy, so I thought these would be made for me but apparently not ...

I love bootcut and haven’t moved on! I hate the way skinny jeans wrinkle around the knees and I never know whether to tuck them into boots or not. I really hope boot cut are coming back Grin

I like relaxed fit “boyfriend” type boootcuts. Definitely NOT the type that cling to your thighs and hips.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 15/01/2018 16:59

PasDeDeux Thank you :) I've seen those, but I thought they were boyfriend jeans. Style is wasted on me.

Twoweekcruise · 15/01/2018 17:02

I HATE them they look so mumsy especially if they are too short. And there is nothing worse than a middle aged man in boot cut jeans and cowboy boots (a dad at my dd's school dresses like this, so Jeremy Clarkson!)

rightknockered · 15/01/2018 17:43

Boot cut jeans in the 90s were made of thick denim, so didn't really flap around a lot. And I can't recall there being any lycra in the mix. I remember hanging onto my bootcut until it was almost indecent.

rightknockered · 15/01/2018 17:43

I prefer straight leg jeans

MaryLennoxsScowl · 15/01/2018 18:48

Young people moved on to skinnies and our mums stuck with bootcut, so bootcut jeans just look like things older people wear to me. I am bored of skinnies, I like mom jeans, topshop Lucas straight leg, and cropped wide legs.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 15/01/2018 18:50

I like wide legged jeans/trousers again though in general, they don't need to be cropped. And I LOVED Gap Long and Lean back in the day!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/01/2018 18:51

I always wore bootcut jeans, and was only converted to straight cut jeans about 6 or 8 years ago.

Now I don't like the fit of bootcut and will stick with the straight ones.

Itmakesthereaderreadon · 15/01/2018 18:57

I remember the sneer on the girl in New Look's face sometime before 2007, when I wanted new work trousers. I had asked her where the shortcuts were:"we don't sell..those..anymore." I'd been wearing them since the late 90s. I didn't know trousers came in any other shape. I didn't think I'd ever wear trousers again!

I now favour a skinny Jean and wide leg or cropped slim trouser fir work.

Butterfly1975 · 15/01/2018 19:02

I wore bootcut black trousers to work today for the first time in ages and felt really unfashionable in them!! Especially as I was working at a university today so there wasn't another bootcut in sight - all skinny jeans!!

Personally I much prefer the shape of bootcut and straight leg jeans and they are far more flattering for pear shapes than skinny jeans.

I am desperately bored of skinnies now but I can't see students being parted from them in a hurry from what I saw today Grin

Moussemoose · 15/01/2018 19:03

Wear what suits you!

Straights and skinnies make my legs look like parsnips or sausages.

I wear my boot cuts.

MikeUniformMike · 15/01/2018 19:08

I have not stopped wearing bootcuts - admittedly only a slight bootcut and only occasionally. I also wear skinny jeans. I won't wear low rise ones.

Fresta · 15/01/2018 19:09

I think it's just conditioning because when bootcut were in fashion we all loved them and everyone talked about how flattering and leg-lengthening they were.

I'm not looking forward to the frayed, wet hems again though! I really don't want them to be back! And it would be much cheaper if I can just keep wearing my skinnies as I would need to buy new ones.

NC4now · 15/01/2018 19:12

Bootcuts in the rain though. That soggy slapping against your ankles. Grim.

crackerjacket · 15/01/2018 19:15

Dunno.

Have some bootcuts and they make my legs look thin so I wear then. Skinnies give me parsnip legs too.

crackerjacket · 15/01/2018 19:16

However, if you wear skinny jeans with knee high boots they do balance those chunky of thigh.

BuzzKillington · 15/01/2018 19:21

I hate them.

Very frumpy and unflattering.

Itmakesthereaderreadon · 15/01/2018 19:22

Occasionally I go out in a pair of flares. Now they really are flattering and make my bum look lovely and pert. I have wide shoulders, so can wear a silky blouse for a 70s vibe. Dh hates them, so I canvassed the opinions of the young folk in my local pub. I win.

Bootcut jeans are vile

AuntieStella · 15/01/2018 19:29

I didn't buy jeans for years when all there wa available were racks of boitcut.

It makes legs look fatter - because legs are meant to taper, so widening what should be the narrowest part just adds chunk Ines.

But, some people really like how they look.

So I hope that manufacturers will start to produce staple shapes (skinny straight, peg, bootcut) all the time. Then we can all be happy

I haven't worn jeans in ages as I was struggling to find the right fit. Bought a couple of pairs of Gap curvy boots before Christmas & they've changed my life. Everything looks better. I'm a size 16, curvy, very long legs, shorter torso. They're so my fit.

AuntieStella · 15/01/2018 19:31

Sorry about the triple post (especially as it begins with a dreadful typo). The page froze, and it looked as if it hadn't posted at all. So I refreshed a little over-enthusiastically.
