Things you really want to wear but can’t because you look flippin’ awful!

Roll necks. I know I look awful in them. I’ve known it for ever. But then I see Margo Robbie rocking a black roll neck in The Wolf of Wall Street and looking amazing, or I start musing how warm and cosy roll neck jumpers look for the winter... particularly those fitted, sleek ones, and before I know it I order a cute, red roll neck knitted dress from Boohoo at the miraculous price of £20 and it arrives and I try it on and it’s lovely in every conceivable way except for the roll neck ... which gives me the jawline of a very old and very angry witch.

I KNEW this. And now I feel sad and hideous I have to send it back.

Sigh. Anyone else have anything they’d LOVE to be able to wear but can’t. Ever. ?

Any kind of denim short.
My thighs look like a bodybuilders then weird calves. Looks weirrddd
Also halternecks got a weird chest
And turtleneck have a turkey neck

SlideAway82 · 22/12/2017 19:32

Those shiny PVC type trousers out at the moment. They'd look great with a chunky jumper and pair of Stan Smiths.

The lacy bralets with a blazer thrown over the top

Plunge bodysuits tucked into skirts or jeans

Too fat and boobs too big for ALL of this!!!

museumum · 22/12/2017 19:32

Chunky knitwear of any sort Sad
I love it but I’m short and stocky with big boobs. I look awful in it 😢

thefirstmrsrochester · 22/12/2017 19:32

Over knee flat boots. I’m 5ft. Can look great on wee folk if also v skinny. I’m not skinny thus look like I’m participating in a pantomime if I wear them.

thisgirlrides · 22/12/2017 19:34

Jumpsuits and most trousers (big thighs & bum Wink)

Janetjanetjanet · 22/12/2017 19:35

Any kind of vests at all.

I never show my arms in public, except for in a bikini.

Maxi dresses do me no favours.

Boob tubes, obviously, who does?

60sname · 22/12/2017 19:36

Pleated skirts. Make my childbearing hips look wider than the Titanic

RegretingTheElf · 22/12/2017 19:37

Playsuits!! All in one cat suits. I’m a size 8, however no matter they make me look pregnant

elQuintoConyo · 22/12/2017 19:37

Skinny jeans
Oversized knutwear
Hats
Ditto turtlenecks
Trainers
Wrap dresses
Low-cut tops
Knee-high boots

I mostly look like a hot tepid mess in anything! So i wear whacky things and throw Vogue out the window Grin

vitaminC · 22/12/2017 19:39

Jumpsuits and most shorts.

I have a very hourglass figure and a long torso with short legs. Jumpsuits just either don't fit at all or make me look ridiculously dumpy.
In shorts I look like I'm a giant toddler wearing a nappy!

Icequeen01 · 22/12/2017 19:47

Anything that shows my legs! I have knees like a rugby player. Sickeningly my younger (54!) sister has gorgeous legs and a fab figure and is very glam. I'm not ....... 😢

CarrieBradshawsScrunchie · 22/12/2017 19:48

Glad it’s not just me then!

60sname, I hear you on the pleated skirts. I look fat and matronly in them, but I love that look - pleated midi skirt and sleek fitted top tucked in, preferably a roll neck..,oh dammit!!

silkpyjamasallday · 22/12/2017 19:51

Anything knee length, I have really chunky calves and ankles and anything that cuts off at the knee looks bloody awful. Mini skirts and midi skirts don't have the same effect.

And sadly I think I am going to have to abandon hope of wearing anything without a bra, pregnancy and breastfeeding have left my boobs looking like sad naan breads. Bye bye beautiful silk camisoles, strappy dresses and tops in general Sad

PointeShoesAndTutus · 22/12/2017 19:52

I'm with you on the roll necks. LOVE the idea of them. The reality is more chins than you can imagine!

Also knitted jumper dresses. I'm not that fat (size 10) but they just cling to everything and I look like a woollen Michelin man.

LollaLaLuna · 22/12/2017 19:52

I really do like boho style and maxi dress but unfortunately most of the clothes are designed to be flowy and bit baggy and surely it looks good on somebody who is skinny, but I'm bit curvy and not so tall and always looks like pregnant farmer's wife in it...😳😬

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 22/12/2017 19:57

Hmmm. EveythingXmas Grin Especially head to toe white. I looked like fridge from a distance on my wedding day. Boxy.

Dancinggoat · 22/12/2017 19:58

T shirts.
Anything with round neck and short sleeves. I look like a rugby player in them.
Polo necks.
Those pretty jumpers with frilly bit on shoulders - back to rugby player.

NefretForth · 22/12/2017 20:01

Pretty much everything. About the only thing that can be said for me is that I'm a healthy weight, but I look hideous whatever I wear. I basically aim to be invisible, so all my clothes are really boring because if I wear anything interesting people will just notice how awful I make it look.

treaclesoda · 22/12/2017 20:03

Anything high necked. High necked and big boobs are not a pretty combination Sad

LunaTheCat · 22/12/2017 20:07

Netfret, that is terrible that you feel like this. I am sure you don’t look “hideous”at all.
Do you need to go shopping with a good friend who you can be honest with or check out Pinterest or go for a personal shopping session?
Take care.

NefretForth · 22/12/2017 20:52

I went for a personal shopping session and it made me so miserable that I posted about it on here! Basically she didn't want to try to work out how to dress my awkward shape (dumpy with short legs).

blue2014 · 22/12/2017 21:15

Leather leggings. I really want a pair but I'm a size 20. I just don't think it'll work

youvegottobekidding · 22/12/2017 21:42

I only wear the same things over & over because I fear I'd look ridiculous in anything else - knee length boots, whenever I've tried them on I look & feel like I'm auditioning for panto. I wear ankle boots, skinny jeggings & usually a jumper of some sort, to be honest as I get older I'm not really bothered & I guess it shows. Whenever I catch a glimpse of myself say in a mirror or reflection in a window, I think ffs, you look shit. But I still don't attempt to do anything about it. I'm a 12-14 & I just have this minging-mong ora about me, pretty much anything I'd wear would just look horrid on me anyway, I don't carry myself well so I could be in designer clothes & I'd still make them look crap!

calzone · 22/12/2017 21:45

Goodness you are all really hard on yourselves.😨😨

CanIBuffalo · 22/12/2017 21:46

I'd love to wear Daisy Dukes just once. Sadly, my legs were not built that way.
