Here's a new thread as the old one is getting very full Xmas Grin

I haven’t tried the earlier mascara yet, I think I’ll give this one a go first as the earlier one has had mixed reviews here.

LizzieSiddal · 15/12/2017 09:07

Why put in two black mascaras, at least change the colour!

So boring!

Jigglytuff · 15/12/2017 09:13

It's a great mascara. I'm pleased. I find these threads quite moany I have to say! For £35 it's bloody marvellous!

WindyWednesday · 15/12/2017 09:36

It’s supposed to be worth £250.

So £10 per day,

I think last years was a better mix. Body creams, skincare, hair products and makeup. This is very heavy on the skincare.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 15/12/2017 09:37

This is my first beauty advent calendar & I'm really impressed.
I'm definitely having it again next year!

Trills · 15/12/2017 09:40

There are a lot of people with calendars, and when you think a product is OK you don't have a lot to say, so I hope there's no too much moaning relative to the amount of box-opening that is going on.

I've never heard of this brand, so my initial feeling is that the other mascara is "better" and that two black mascaras is a bit dull.

But as you said, for £35 it doesn't matter if some of the products are not to my liking.

Trills · 15/12/2017 09:47

What it's "worth" depends on how you're looking at it.

In terms of what things I like and enjoy, I only need to get £35 worth of that.

In terms of the price-per-ml of the contents, they have promised that it'll add up to over £250.

The Stila liquid lipstick I did not like at all, so it is worth £0 to me, but £8 in their reckoning (£16 for 3ml full size, ours was 1.5ml so £8)

The Nails Inc nail polish I do like, so I can count nearly all of the £13 retail price towards the "value that I got from the calendar".

Nightmanagerfan · 15/12/2017 10:00

Really pleased with this mascara - it's something I use all the time so I don't mind having two in the calendar, and I'd rather that than another randomly coloured lip gloss!

My favourites so far:
The perfume
The beauty blender sponge - this is amazing for my BB cream and I would never have bought one
Dragon's Blood cream
Mascara

I think I've got my £35 worth - but each item is so personal to the person opening it, so others may not agree.

Frederickvonhefferneffer · 15/12/2017 10:09

Happy with today’s, I think overall this calendar is bloody marvellous! It’s my first beauty advent and I’m delighted with it

LoniceraJaponica · 15/12/2017 10:10

I have liked everything except for the lip colour, beauty blender and mascaras.

DD is going to offer the beauty blender and mascaras to some friends at school. Neither of us wears mascara, DD doesn't wear foundation, and I just put some no7 Intelligent Colour on with my fingers.

happypoobum · 15/12/2017 10:21

The lovely thing about it is that none of it is actually lost is it as you can give to others.

I am happy with this mascara (have an out of control eye make up habit) and have never tried the brand before. I guess that is what I like - trying out new stuff.

The poster who asked about Emma Hardie - I use it all the time since last year and it doesn't break out my skin which is fairly oily. I just adore the smell of it, it cheers me right up every morning.

I am still holding out for a decent hand cream!!!

Favourite product so far is the lipnotgloss

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 15/12/2017 10:41

This is also my first ever beauty calendar and I'm loving it! Of course there are products that aren't to my taste, but so far it seems really good value Smile.

FridgeCut · 15/12/2017 10:59

I bought a new mascara this week (a tubing one) so I have now got three new ones. I am tempted to try it but might hold off till I have used up this one. I have about 10 open already. Usually because I buy them, hate them and try another.

Kochicoo · 15/12/2017 11:05

I don't really wear mascara much but love having different ones to try. I suppose as black mascara must be one of the biggest selling beauty items, if you don't like one, you may like the other and if you don't wear it at all, you may know someone who will be happy to get it as an extra gift. I'm definitely getting this calendar next year. I wish there was one to get us through January too!

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 15/12/2017 11:15

It’s supposed to be worth £250.

It's only worth what people are willing to pay for it. No one would pay £250 for this!
£35 (plus the £35 for the other items) feels like a fair price to me. It's mid-range for the beauty calendar market and has some premium brands in.

I don't mind getting another mascara. I used black mascara every day so it'll get used. I really don't want anymore eyeliner, having had 4 in a No 7 calendar a couple of years ago, also a Birchbox subscription earlier this year which seemed to have an eyeliner in every box - I probably have enough eyeliner to last the rest of my life!

I used the cleansing balm last night and loved it! The blurb on the website said you can also use it as an overnight mask - has anyone tried this?

I have the beauty blender and lipnotgloss up for swapping if anyone wants them? I would be happy with anything else from the calendar

snowflakestar · 15/12/2017 11:18

I like hearing people's honest opinions, whether good or bad. The thread would be slightly boring if we all just came on saying that we love every product. I'm still enjoying the calendar overall.

I see it that I spent £70 on this calendar; I bought stuff that I wouldn't ordinarily have bought at that time in order to qualify. I spend lots at M&S throughout the year but I didn't need anything by the time the calendar finally came out - I'd already finished my Christmas shopping (due to family living away and having to deliver early). Yes, I got some things for the other £35 but I still had to give m&s £70 when I wouldn't ordinarily have done to get the calendar.

TheLuminaries · 15/12/2017 11:19

I was initially disappointed at another black mascara, have both been really good and I struggle with mascara. It is usually in my lower eye creases by lunchtime, even when I only apply it to the top lashes. But both of the ones in the calendar have achieved the miracle of staying put!

Trills · 15/12/2017 11:23

Did you open early? If not I'd say 11am is too early to be saying good things about today's mascara.

TheNoseyProject · 15/12/2017 11:50

If anyone didn’t like their gatineu cream I will swap things for it! Pm me!

AmethystMoon · 15/12/2017 12:23

SaltySeaBird Just seeing if you're on this new thread? I've PM'd you Xmas Smile

Trills my make up is on by 6.30am, I leave the house at 7 for a long cold commute involving train & walking - still being in place by 11 am is a good performance as most mascaras are making me look like Alice Cooper by the time I get to work.

Trills · 15/12/2017 12:44

You need a 12 hour mascara at least in that case :o

TheLuminaries · 15/12/2017 12:50

No shit, Sherlock, but my point was most mascaras do not match their claims & both the M & S ones (so far) have been far superior to most mascaras in not crawling down my eyes, so I am happy to have 2 black mascaras Smile

SunnyUpNorth · 15/12/2017 13:00

TheNoseyProject I haven't opened my Gatineau yet and would be happy to swop it. The thing I most want is the perfume of you don't want it?!
