This summer, did you find a spf 50 for under make up that you really love?

We're just coming into summer here. I'm fed up with using my birthday to get the one dermalogica spf that feels like normal moisturiser ...there must be a cheaper alternative! It's usually £55-65 ish and I'd love something amazing for under. ..20?25? Thanks.

I swear by the body shop skin defence SPF 50 for only £16. It’s lightweight and feels comfortable on top of my moisturiser.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 23/10/2017 08:07

Biore aqua Riche, turquoise tube, amazon. I use it instead of moisturiser, used in Egypt on my pale face. If you do want expensive have you tried Rationale?

ElspethFlashman · 23/10/2017 08:28

Tbh I've found the Boots Soltan ones for the face to be great under makeup. There's a moisturising one that I use instead of moisturiser in the summer.

timeisnotaline · 23/10/2017 08:32

I'm very sun conscious but happy with an spf 30 for daily use under work makeup etc. If I were at the beach or out all day in the sun I usually use a tinted zinc.

La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Factor 50+.

Brilliant.

KoalaD · 23/10/2017 08:36

This one.

I have used the la Roche one too and really liked it. This year I tried Eucerin mattifying spf 50 and it was great for hot climates but a little drying for the UK weather, so you would need to use with your normal moisturiser. Both are priced quite reasonably.

Peppermeant · 23/10/2017 09:27

Taking notes! Have been using the Biore but it causes my foundation to oxidise. Very good otherwise (slightly concerned that it's not avail for sale where I live however and I wonder if this is because of a dodgy ingredient, as I can purchase other Biore products Confused).

Also dont mind the LRP but it has a slight odour I dislike.

MrsGoToBed80 · 23/10/2017 09:28

I love the Estée Lauder one, but it's SPF 30 not 50 I think. Make up went on over it really nicely and it wasn't greasy at all. Smells beautiful too.

lborgia · 23/10/2017 09:50

I'm sticking with spf50 because for about 6 months of the year here I get red/colour in the time it takes to hang up a load of washing. .. i agree that the LRP is good, but I still find it a bit sunscreen-ish? I've started using the one I bought fir the kids so it's not wasted.

I'll have s look at the Eucerin, and body shop, they're easy to find here. .. any others?

Thank you!

Boots soltan for face is the best

HouseworkIsAPain · 23/10/2017 09:59

I now use Clarins - I put it over moisturiser (and under make up). It goes on really smoothly and gives a good base for make up for me. In fact I can get away with not using foundation sometimes, as it smooths out my skin.

HouseworkIsAPain · 23/10/2017 10:00

Forgot link - it’s a bit pricier than you were looking at but cheaper than the one you were using- m.johnlewis.com/clarins-uv-plus-anti-pollution-spf-50-day-cream-30ml/p1799528

Biore Watery Essence

Cheap cheap, great on my otherwise oily skin and sits well under my make up. Highly recommended!

SandLand · 23/10/2017 10:12

I hated the Eucerin mattifying one.
Liking the Borie watery Essence.
I also like Simple moisturiser, but it's only SPF30.

Got some Heliocare to try as well (Amazon again).

La Roche Posay added to my wish list for next trip home.

Ktown · 23/10/2017 11:15

no. even 30 feels ick. i just get outbreaks of blackheads. so i am watching with interest.

so i use factor 15 now, and factor 20 make up (erborian cc cream in miniscule quantities. i don't burn, nor do i sunbathe so i am not going to worry. if i am outside for long periods i might use SPF 30, but i haven't found one that doesn't feel grim, and i have used la roche posay etc and all the above.

CaptainWarbeck · 23/10/2017 11:21

Ooh good thread. Might try the watery essence one as it's cheap on eBay.

rightknockered · 23/10/2017 11:22

I was using the Clarins one, and liked it. But towards September swapped to the Roche Posay Anthelios one, and think it's better. I also have the spray one, to spray over make up and also like that

rightknockered · 23/10/2017 11:24

One does seem to have over used the word one there

lborgia · 23/10/2017 11:29

Quick Google of watery essence, found a scathing review of the new 2017 formula. .eek..now I don't know!

Badders08 · 23/10/2017 11:31

I use the neutrogena one

cessie322 · 23/10/2017 11:36

I'm on my third bottle of this, I really like it. I've pale skin that's prone to sensitivity. I wear it under makeup.

ElspethFlashman · 23/10/2017 12:00

I used the watery essence and it's basically water, so not one that could double as a moisturiser. I didn't repurchase as I can never be arsed using both. Another reason I haven't repurchased the watery LRP one. Too lazy.

Wtfdoicare · 23/10/2017 12:14

I also use the Biore Watery Essence. A word of warning, this is great but much better for normal/combination skin as it can be quite drying. I have very dry skin and alternate it with Boots Soltan SPF50 face, which is nice and rich.

Thedot90 · 23/10/2017 12:20

Another vote for la Roche Posay - I am a fickle beauty buyer and am always looking for the next best thing, but recently bought my second bottle of this. Reasonably priced and boots usually have a deal on every couple of months.
