Talk to me about wearing bold lipstick in the daytime.

I often wear bright or bolder lipstick for a rare night out, but never in the daytime. I struggle with nudes; they make me look like the undead so tend to wear a pinky nude during the day. I love my bolder lipsticks, but for some reason feel really self conscious wearing them in the daytime and feel like everyone is looking at me. They're probably not and it's just in my imagination. I would love to wear them more because I'm getting bored of the nudes. Would love to hear from all of you rocking the bold lip during the daytime. Do you feel self conscious at all?

Bio I have Ole flamingo (blue based bright pink) , nudist, plum plum girl, beau brun, its Redding men, the 2 pale pinks, funshia and the dark berry one as well as another bright pink. As you can tell I'm rather keen on them. I had a few months of feeling a bit down so I went on a lipstick binge!!!!

Yogatoga09 · 15/10/2017 19:13

Can anyone recommend a strong berry lipstick? I'm quite pale with blond hair, thanks!

BusterGonad · 15/10/2017 19:15

Bio they last really well and can be topped up without causing flaking. They are thick and dry to a very Matt finish. They are a bit like a lip paint but I'm quite keen on them. I personally hate the long lasting lipsticks that have dual application and the Bourjois ones are the closet to a lip stick for me. I find I can put them on in the morning and not worry too much all day, some shades like Grand Cru (dark Berry) is a bit of a strange one and does dry out a bit and flake slightly. When they are on 3 for 2 they are fantastic value for money.

botemp · 15/10/2017 19:22

Thanks for the info on Bourjois, maybe I should have asked which one you don't have Buster Wink. The Ole Flamingo does indeed feel a bit more spring/summer. But it's kind of what I like about a bold lip at this time of year it can cheer you up amongst all the grey dreariness but others too. Love spotting one on another passerby too and doing the mutual nod of bold lip approval. The most striking imo are always the silver haired ladies wearing them without a care in the world.

Your Majesty looks stunning! Must have a look on counter, usually overlook BB for lips.

botemp · 15/10/2017 19:28

I just remembered, Oxblood from Burberry (comes in an array of finishes and I think there's a matching nail polish too) is also a really lovely berry for this time of year. It has a nice depth without feeling too goth.

For whoever said their lipstick goes onto thier teeth, before you apply your lipstick put a tiny bit of vaseline on your front teeth Wink courtesy of beyonce

Florence - It's Sheer & Shine lipstick by Yves Rocher in shade no 03 (although it seems to be out of stock on their UK website). I buy a lot from Yves Rocher; I used to think they were like Clarins until I read on here that they're the French Avon. Confused

BusterGonad · 15/10/2017 19:49

My favorite lipstick was Lancôme rock n roll fuchsia. I was so beautiful. Now I love the Marc Jacobs lipsticks.

stoplickingthetelly · 15/10/2017 20:07

Botemp I'm a bit of a Bobbi Brown fan. My favourite nudish pink is Sandwash pink. It's definitely a my lips but better shade.

You know I'm a bit nuded out lately. I still like it as an alternative now and then but I think the ubiquitous almost concealer type dead matte look has sort of taken the fun out of it for me.

I am thinking that those still unsure on how bold they can go the makeup apps are pretty good for this. I have makeup+ which used to have a ton of products to try from Giorgio Armani and similar and the colour representation was pretty accurate but it seems to be just a Korean brand on there now. Still good for experimentation though.

I know what you mean about being nuded out and bored. That's exactly why I started this thread looking for advice on wearing bolder lipsticks when your not very brave.

Just go for it OP, wear the darkest or brightest statement lip colour that you own tomorrow for whatever you have to do, even if you don’t leave the house, and don’t coward out of it! You will look, as my friends DD would say, “SO BOMB” Wink

WildwestWind · 15/10/2017 21:23

I wear Maybelline superstay 24 hour colour and have lots of bright colours. It stays put all day and I love it. I usually just wear tinted moisturiser and mascara then a bright lippy - it's quick and easy and gets me through the day

stoplickingthetelly · 15/10/2017 21:33

At work tomorrow (Secondary teacher) so don't know if I'm brave enough. Also don't have the time to check and reapply. Off on Tue so will definitely go for it then. Might even give Ole Flamingo a whirl.

Nothing wrong with Avon!

I'm loving the bright red Raspberry Rush Lip Crayon. Wear it on it's own. I'm early fifties and it brightens me up a treat. Wear it to work, the supermarket, dogwalking....

Paintbox · 15/10/2017 21:46

I wear bright lipsticks a lot. One trick if you darent go so full on, is to dab the colour onto your lips with your finger, instead of a brush or from the lipstick. It gives the colour but a more subtle form of it, almost like a stain, or that bitten lip look

stoplickingthetelly · 15/10/2017 21:55

Good tip paintbox. Will give it a try.

A bold lip on a bare face (lush full brows lightly filled in with a powder maybe, but that's it ) is my go-to look. Very easy and pulls together your look
I love berries, muaves, or even a very bright cool pink.

I don't like a precise matte look when I do it though, it's very harsh and aging (on me anyways) Especially if it's a dark lip color.
I prefer a more blurred, softened messier lip (not smeary though, don't overline. Just apply smaller amount of lip color in the middle of lips and blot/feather out and repeat) or with a dab of gloss or tiny bit o highlighter on the middle of my bottom lip to look a bit "dewy" and catch the light

To make sure it doesn't get on your teeth, purse lips and take a (clean) finger and pop it in your mouth and pull out and there's usually some lippy on your finger that woulda ended up on your teeth.

It's drying as shit though, so I do lipscrubs and lots of lip balm

Auldspinster · 15/10/2017 22:04

I've always wore red lippy in daytime, my current favourite is Eden by Nyx which is a matte true red which isn't drying. Really Red by Revlon is good too.

I'd recommend carrying a small compact mirror to make sure it isnt migrating and not to eat an apple unless you want a bold stripe of lipstick across your chin.

Sparkletastic · 15/10/2017 22:08

I look dead in nude lipstick. Mac Velvet Teddy is as pale as I will go. Agree with the keeping it matte tip and always lipliner and fill in lips with it too. I’m a Mac devotee and my favourites are Lady Danger, Tropic Tonic and D for Danger.

Montacute · 15/10/2017 22:13

There is a spectrum of nudes though. Nude doesn't have to mean deadly pale.

Thegiantofillinois · 15/10/2017 22:18

I like the colour match reds. They're red,but look natural. I tend to start with lippie (if I'm doing a lip day) the.n use lip balm after lunch.

I find red most useful on weekends without contact lenses:eyebrows, lips, done. Just a shame I'm too old for scruffy hair.

MaudAndOtherPoems · 15/10/2017 22:38

Oh, I know there's nothing wrong with Avon - I like their stuff - but it's a different niche from Clarins! I shall be rummaging through my lipstick collection, looking for other bolder colours to wear this week.
