Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

This pic pretty much sums up what I wear!

JDSTER · 22/10/2017 10:42

Lovely. Such a flattering shape.

Ollivander84 · 22/10/2017 10:47

I wear lots of 50s type flared dresses or wrap ones that are flared. Tricky to get stuff that fits my bust and waist

userallusedup · 22/10/2017 11:45

You look gorgeous Olli I love 40s and 50s style dresses but they do not suit me at all Sad I can’t find dresses that fit my saddlebag thighs without being massively too big/gapey/low cut on my boobs. I have got a couple of evening dresses I bought fairly cheaply from amazon and paid to have altered. The other two dresses I own are very casual maxi style sun dresses so I wear a vest top under them.

Good thing about small boobs though is I don’t really need to fuss about bras Grin I wear those pull on ones (like a lightweight sports bra) most of the time and only drag the proper ones out if I’m dressing up and want to try and give myself a bit more shape up top.

Checking in from the US of A, back later...

Treeballarae · 22/10/2017 19:46

I've jinxed myself with my last post about what skincare was working for me - in the last week three under-the-skin sore spots on my chin. I got some Skyn salicylic acid spot patches in a GWP some time ago so I stuck them on over night and they brought the spots to a head - and thankfully they are at cicplast stage now. I see cosrx do these too, I will try those once the Skyn ones are done.

I've been really tempted by the simplehuman mirrors for a while now - I am very short sighted and get a sore back leaning over to see myself in my current mirror because it's too low - thanks for confirming a simplehuman one is definitely is height adjustable - i'll put it on my list.

Thanks for the Aurelia feeback - I love the feel and smell of the body oil after I got a mini size in Space NK last Christmas - it's very light and sinks in quickly unlike the Aromatherapy Associates body oils that sit on my skin for a while. I don't really expect it to live up to the "firming" claim - as you say, it's something nice rather than a "useful body product".

Enid sorry to hear about your cold, Aromatherapy Associates Support Breathe and Liquid Yoga baths and lots of steaming with my head over a bowl of hot water with a towel over my head - got me through the cold I had a few weeks ago.

I found the This Works sleep spray works, they do a time-release version but I found it no more effective than the original. I also use the Neom version, but it is glass so not as good for travelling.

Ollivander84 · 22/10/2017 20:46

Just seen trinny has brought out her own makeup range!

EnidButton · 22/10/2017 21:52

I like that Joanie dress Olli!

Thanks Tree Seems to be just my sinuses so it'll go soon. Brew

Ollivander84 · 22/10/2017 23:31

Forgot to say, I think niacinamide is what's not helping my spots. I've dropped it from my routine and my skin seems much happier

Ollivander84 · 23/10/2017 11:58

And two small recommendations
Barry M take a brow - it's a brow gel, mega cheap, you get loads of product and the brush is nice and small. Downside is you need to wipe the brush on the edge of tube and it only comes in clear or brown. But for the price it's minor!
Blank canvas F01 brush. Like a mega size fluffy brush. I used it with gosh foundation drops and wow - just buffed it on in maybe 30 seconds and done! Really like it, will try it with a more cream based foundation and see how it is

JDSTER · 23/10/2017 11:59

Look at this for a bargain! I subscribed to Red magazine £6 for 6 issues with a free beauty goody bag and this is what I got Halloween Grin

I got some good samples in my Skincity order, including Creme Metamorphique from Beauté Pacifique. I'm getting along with the 5 % retinoid from TO though, even warming up to the squalane. Have had some flaking. Don't know if I'm gorgeous yet though. Acne has been ok. Don't understand why you want supermirrors - why would I want to see what I look like ;) haha. Still dreaming of having Josefa Reina empty my pores one day ...

If you speak Swedish the latest episode of the radio programme Stil was about K-beauty, and while partly just reitering for example Jude Chao's texts about skincare when depressed, they also talked a little about Korean history and why K-beauty as an export product came about.

BagelGoesWalking · 23/10/2017 23:15

I’m close to buying Dr Jart Cicapair & Ceramidin sample duo pack that’s on eBay. Someone on The Ordinary/Deciem FB group recommended it and also on a Korean beauty FB group. So that’s me being a sheep 🐑 🐑 🐑

Also interested in the Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream by 100% Pure. Have any of you tried it?

Ditto for the Pyunkang Yul - Essence Toner - any experience of it?

I find all the Asian products absolutely fascinating and I want to buy some CORSX, particularly the Good Morning cleanser for my daughter.

banivani · 24/10/2017 14:24

Bagel I really like the COSRX cleanser. It does smell of tea tree oil so clearly it's one to avoid if you're sensitive to that ingredient.

I need to get back into hydrating K-beauty stuff. I need more hydration and I'm not patient enough to pack it in. Hm. I'm feeling my skin being slightly taut and un-plump these past few days. Maybe stock up on sheet masks and mask daily for a bit.

Tsmummy08 · 24/10/2017 16:48

I've finally caught up, happy anniversary to us all! I love this thread - I'm spending considerably less on skincare/makeup now than I was last year when this thread came into my radar, in spite of some sheep-like purchases Blush And of course the spending I've done in the last week (Belif Moisture Bomb -meh, Ceremidin Cream - love it, and what's in the picture). I'll be trying to get hold of some Deunk Elephant too..

I'm in the USA for another few days so if anyone has some recommendations for me (dry, middle aged skin) I'll have a look for them....

JDSTER · 24/10/2017 19:13

@Tsmummy08 if by any chance, and it's not too much trouble, would you be able to pick up another LRP double repair moisturiser for me to post when you're home? I'm nearly out and I do like it and no one going to US any time soon. No worries if you can't but hope you don't mind me asking.

MilfordFound · 24/10/2017 21:49

Just popping in with a word of advice so you can learn from my silly mistake.....

If you have a nasty paper cut on your finger then BE CAREFUL when applying TO vit C 23%!

It made me want to cut my finger off to stop the pain Blush

Ollivander84 · 24/10/2017 22:33

I'm having microblading tomorrow. Argh!

JDSTER · 24/10/2017 22:43

We need pictures olli Grin

Ollivander84 · 24/10/2017 22:48

Well it wasn't planned BlushGrin
I was casually browsing(!) insta and saw a page I follow, with a LOT of followers asking for a model for tomorrow. Free. So I said yes, obviously

JDSTER · 24/10/2017 22:49

Ollivander84 · 24/10/2017 22:56

Tsmummy08 · 24/10/2017 23:43

Pupsiecola · 25/10/2017 10:27

Tsmummy Have screenshotted (screenshat? screenshit?) your haul for my DH as he is off to Vegas in a month.

Pupsiecola · 25/10/2017 10:28

By the way, not skincare related but I am listing to the most amazing podcast; The Life Coach School. Wow!
