Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

EnidButton · 25/10/2017 19:02

Do we get a pic when it's calmed down Olli? Can you put ice on them?

Ollivander84 · 25/10/2017 19:03

Nope they need to stay dry! Pic of straight after

Ladies, I need your help! I have KP on my body and want to reduce its appearance fast... especially on my thighs! Any help and guidance would be much appreciated.

My current routine:

taking omega 3 fish oil,
dry body brushing,
using a combo of (depending how I feel on the day): coconut oil, Lush Dream Cream, Palmer's lotion with lactic acid, Pixi glow tonic (was using PC salicylic acid body spray before this) and PC retinol cream (this was in a beauty box).
Have switched to SLS free body washes: currently use Dove anti-age one in the dark red bottle. I also wash with only water.
Once a week: Flexitol heel balm with high urea %
2-3 times a month I use one of the following SR Skincare acid peels: 10% Mandelic, 15% salicyclic or 30% lactic acid (these helped a lot)

Next up: will try spraying with magnesium supplement spray and the Eucerin urea body cream. I have also ordered some organic cold pressed oils.

userallusedup · 25/10/2017 20:12

Wow Olli they look amazing! I’ve been looking into this as my brows are almost non-existent but I’ve heard mixed reviews & seen some mixed results, my brows (the little I have left) are black and I’m worried that if the person doing them was a bit heavy handed I’d end up with those awful sharpie brows. And the OW factor does put me off too, I’d suck it up for results like you got though Grin

userallusedup · 25/10/2017 20:18

Hi thedarklady I don’t have KP but a few others here have mentioned it so I’m sure you’ll get some good advice soon.

I have the Eucerin 10% urea body cream and really like it but just for general moisturising purposes and the fact it isn’t scented (perfumed body creams and shower gels make me itchy) but other than that I don’t have too many issues with the skin on my body - face a different matter!

Thedarklady · 25/10/2017 20:24

Have you tried castor oil? It really does seem to work (increasing hair growth: eye brows and eye lashes). Use before bedtime.

userallusedup · 25/10/2017 20:58

I’m scared of using anything like that the darklady rapid lash made me grow little eyelashes at the side of my eyes and tops of my cheeks Shock so I don’t dare put any hair growth type stuff on my lashes or brows now.

Olli I’ve just seen on your other thread that they were done digitally, how does that differ from the normal microblading process? And do you need to go back for the second follow up appointment?

Ollivander84 · 25/10/2017 20:59

Basically it's like a tattoo machine but with a single needle. And yes, top up will be in January

Thedarklady · 25/10/2017 21:14

Wow, they look great Ollie!
Yikes userallusedup! Castor oil is very thick so it's easier to control and apply to only the correct spots.

mintmagnummm · 25/10/2017 21:40

Is there an eye cream/serum/gel that helps with dark circles, puffiness and fine lines?? Hmm

Thedarklady · 25/10/2017 21:51

mintmagnummm, I like the gel-like eye creams with those cooling roller balls attached. Boots Botanics is a good bet (there is a regular and a men's version). Also Google vitamin K sources and take it as a supplement too.

Additionally, the usual get enough sleep and watch your drinks, salt, sugar and processed foods intake spiel applies.

JDSTER · 25/10/2017 22:15

Looks great olli, really defined.

mint TO caffeine eye stuff is meant to be good for circles and puffiness I think but not tried it myself.

tsmummy I've pm'd you do hopefully gone through.

EnidButton · 25/10/2017 22:29

They're a really good shape Olli. Thought they'd be quite pink at first but they look fine!

Ollivander84 · 25/10/2017 22:31

They are definitely sore!!! Felt really hot and tight after but a bit better now
Not getting them wet for 2 weeks will be interesting

userallusedup · 25/10/2017 22:34

Mint I use alpha h absolute eye complex, it has an instant effect on fine lines and is very cooling/soothing for allergy prone eyes. Not sure about dark circles as I don’t have them (one thing I got lucky with!) and don’t think it has that much of a culminative effect, it’s more of an instant fix. One of my friends swears by Chanel eye gel, I’m thinking of trying it but it’s quite pricey. I’ve also tried LRP redermic eyes recently but don’t think it’s done much and makes my eyes a bit sore.

JDSTER how are you getting on with differin? I seem to be tolerating it much better than TO ret so far, minimal flaking. I’ve been using LRP spring water spray followed by Deciem hylamide and the FAB moisturiser on the nights I do differin but I did wonder if the LRP spray is diluting it too much, though I do wait at least half an hour after differin before I spray.

Olli I will look into that method, still a bit nervous about ending up with the scary sharpie brows especially as they seem to be very ‘in’ at the moment.

mintmagnummm · 26/10/2017 07:24

Thank you darklady, JDSTER, and user. I'll look into those suggestions.

I keep getting little spots on my forehead for some reason, it's not usually my problem area Confused

JDSTER · 26/10/2017 09:57

user getting on fine with it. A bit dryness/flakiness but that's if I don't moisturise enough, as in applying a bit more moisturiser than usual. I apply differin to bare skin, wait a bit then apply moisturiser. I always want to avoid diluting too. I should probably use HA or buffet before moisturiser and I'm going to have to as it gets colder.

Pupsiecola · 26/10/2017 13:27

I'm a recent beauty blender convert. How do you clean yours?

miffy2 · 26/10/2017 15:25

Pupsie to clean my beauty blender I either use the brush cleansing bar from Primark (cheap and amazing), or some neutrogena t-gel shampoo if I need to clean off some really tough foundation or concealer. I previously used a bar of Dr Bronner soap and it was fine too.

An FYI as Escentual currently have 1/3 off their French pharmacy brands. I find them fabulous to buy from.

Has anyone tried the new Vitamin C serum from Nivea, or have any opinion on it? I have ordered the Drunk Elephant but it will be weeks before I get it so in the meantime I picked the nivea up on sale in my supermarket. I am useless at deciphering ingredients but have used it a couple of nights and so far so good. No irritation and my skin feels smooth and happy in the morning.

BagelGoesWalking · 26/10/2017 16:49

Mintmagnum This one was recommended by Gothamista Coffee Besn Caffeine Eye Creamm*

mintmagnummm · 26/10/2017 17:49

Oh thank u bagel

userallusedup · 26/10/2017 20:07

Pupsie I was using a cheap tea tree face wash to clean my Beauty Blender which did the job fine but I finished it and moved on to doctor Bronner after it was recommended here, I got the liquid soap in a small size.

Miffy I haven’t used Nivea in years as it used to be too heavy and give me spots, though I’m sure it’s changed a lot since then. I’m on the lookout for a Vit c day cream/serum as TO one started to make my face itch.

Off for a look on Escentual now - even though I don’t need anything Blush

banivani · 26/10/2017 20:08

milford see if you’d only asked me I could’ve told you not to do that 😉

The TO caffeine serum ... well granted I don’t have very puffy eyes but for dark circles I don’t rate it. Worth a shot I suppose, isn’t dear after all.

In other news I tried on these jeans in Cos today www.cosstores.com/se/Women/Jeans/Relaxed_wide-leg_jeans/359710-60455568.1#c-22755

And they didn’t fit in a size 32 inches, nor in a 31 inches, but in a 30 inches. My waist is over 31 inches on a good day and I have a substantial baby pouch. I was so disgusted with the whole business I left without buying them and am kind of regretting it now.

Ollivander84 · 26/10/2017 20:25

This is the face cream I've been using since July. Came in my pink parcel box and I really like it. Jut feels like a decent basic moisturiser that doesn't irritate or clog me
