Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

Thank you bo

Milford I am waiting for the Cosrx pimple pads for my DD and the Good Morning Cleanser is in her stocking. Would be interested to hear how you like both of them.

Is the Snail the 92 in the jar rather than 96 in the bottle (which is the Essence)? Do you think it's worth a try for sensitive skin?

userallusedup · 22/12/2017 22:52

Olli that lipstick looks great on you, it would definitely have been way too pale (corpse like!) for me. Love the brows too.

I have a pretty stress free Christmas - no young kids in our immediate families so we keep it very low key - but I’ve had a lot of social stuff/nights out on recently and feeling a bit burnt out, skin is a bit dull and flakey but my routine hasn’t been the greatest due to late nights [ blush] I’m off work now till 8th Jan so time to rest and sort myself out.

Hope you and your skin are feeling better soon Mint Flowers

EnidButton · 22/12/2017 23:08

Remember not to squeeze and poke Mint It'll calm down in a couple of days. Deep breaths, none of the stuff really matters in the big picture. Flowers

EnidButton · 22/12/2017 23:12

I used a Pai face scrub tonight. Always leaves my skin looking fresher but can sometimes cause a small break out two days later so my timing was totally wrong. Hmm Fingers crossed it behaves.

Left my brows alone for a couple of weeks as I want the shape slightly different. Using Rapidbrow very night. They're looking pretty good, will have to be careful with the ol' tweezers tomorrow but can't leave them any longer.

MilfordFound · 22/12/2017 23:52

@Bagelgoeswalking I've tried the cleanser today, it's been a while since I used a foaming cleanser. One of the things which made the biggest difference to my skin was cutting out foaming cleansers earlier in the year. Turned my very oily skin into just slightly oily. So hopefully this cleanser won't reverse that! First use of the Clear one step pad is positive too, feels nice, used the pad then put the toddler to bed and forgot about moisturiser and skin is soft and doesn't feel tight.

I have the Cosrx Snail 92, it's in a jar. It's described as a cream, but it's more like a goopy stretchy gel. The jar packaging is a nightmare, goop everywhere. I bought an airless pump bottle and put it in there and it's so much better. I LOVE the product though. I use it as a moisturiser, but it's not moisturising really, which suits my oily skin. It feels like a treatment, it comforts my skin, it feels like it heals it. I think it would suit sensitive skin, but someone with normal/dry skin would probably need a proper moisturiser on top. It sinks in completely, it's lovely!

Tantpoke · 23/12/2017 00:27

mint do you have PCOS at all?
olli thats a great colour on you. Are you wearing a uniform in the picture? if so have you found a new job
I've still got the tail end of this ruddy cough and cold just when I think I'm ok i feel really dizzy and tired again. Thank god I've managed to buy and wrap all my presents.

Tantpoke · 23/12/2017 00:31

Oh yes and despite all the vaseline I slathered on, my pores haven't blocked, I have no hideous spots and my nose is nice and normal and smooth ie longer red raw and peeling >phew

Ollivander84 · 23/12/2017 00:42

Yes only a zero hours contract but it's ok Smile

Tantpoke · 23/12/2017 01:37

That's great Olli it's something to tide you over and stop you climbing the walls as it were Smile

mintmagnummm · 23/12/2017 07:41

Thank you user and Enid Thanks

Tant no I don't have pcos although I do get cysts and lots of pains on ovaries I don't have the actual syndrome. I do however have hormonal issues due to having both Fallopian tubes removed years ago as I had 2 ectopic pregnancies so my periods are a bit all over the place.

I had my hair done this week, my usual roots done and highlights. My mum pointed out that she thinks I got the same acne rash last time I had my hair done so maybe it's an allergy to the dye?! I'm having a new hairdresser soon so hopefully she will use a diff brand. It's definitely some kind of reaction whether it be to an actual product or a reaction to hormones/stress as it's exactly the same as I get when I take antibiotics (I have to take piriton if I'm ever prescribed antibiotics, not that they even really help the rash tbh) it is like acne all over my neck and chest and then occasionally on my face too it's very odd. I remember a homeopath telling me a while ago that I'm a very "hyper" or "hypo" (can't remember which) kind of person, not in my behaviour lol but in my reaction to things. Hypersensitive to stress, medication, products etc. Apparently I'm also an extremely contradictive person, but we won't go in to that 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️

Tantpoke · 23/12/2017 10:52

mint I just want to give you a huge hug right now Brew Cake

mintmagnummm · 23/12/2017 12:29

Aww thanks tant that's very sweet of you x

miffy2 · 23/12/2017 13:29

Aw, mint. sorry you are going through a rough time. Definitely check out the hair dye and ask for more natural options, maybe take an anti-histamine before getting your colour in, might help. I too have an over-production of histamine so I react quickly to anything that my skin is sensitive to. It has eased as I got older though (one of the very few benefits) but I still get red welts and hives occasionally.

I was very naughty and bought the M&S facial cleansing brush (battery-operated) at half off. I have used it twice, only on my nose, chin and forehead and I really like it. I would not use it on my cheeks or neck but it seems to be helping the congestion and pores around my nose.

I too am off work for two weeks, all presents are wrapped and I have a lot of cooking to do as we have 19 for dinner on the 26th and 15 on the 30th Shock In fairness it is the only time of the year that we really entertain large groups so I almost enjoy it Grin. I am looking forward to lots of pampering - might give myself a good pedicure and apply a face mask every few nights. I ordered the Codage hydrating serum as my face loves it, so I have that to look forward to using in the new year.

Wishing all of you who celebrate, the most lovely of Christmases

  • hope Santa Claus is good to you Xmas Smile. And happy relaxing days to everyone else.
BagelGoesWalking · 23/12/2017 17:14

Just in case anyone's interested, I've found 2 UK stockists of Korean beauty products. As I've now had 2 orders stopped (one eBay and one Yesstyle that was only £18!) I think I'll pay slightly higher prices for products. At least shipping will be quicker and hopefully reliable. Smile

My Christmas spirit has been zapped. Crying and feeling shite instead. My family are insensitive as fuck.

In skin news I haven't broken out but realise why people say plucking brows hurt. I do a tiny bit regimarlybrather than a bigger patch one off. It does smart a bit when there's a few to pluck.

Tantpoke · 23/12/2017 17:36

enid big hug to you too Brew Cake

I always pluck my eyebrows in a mad frenzied rush just as I'm starting to apply proper full make up to go out and realise they have gone completely wild. I think the panicked adrenaline stops any pain Grin

EnidButton · 23/12/2017 19:52

Thanks TantI've got over myself now Grin I was just feeling very chilled that's all and my bubble was burst a bit.

I'm hardcore when it comes to tweezing but it's looking a bit...er..pink, where I've plucked away a bunch this time. At least I know the Rapidbrow definitely does work.

botemp · 23/12/2017 21:00

Miserable bastards, Enid Xmas Angry on your behalf (always expect to grow some fangs when typing out 'fangry' Confused).

EnidButton · 23/12/2017 23:16

Fangry! Grin Bit like hangry for that irritated feeling you get when you're hungry.

Tif they weren't being miserable, the opposite really, just insensitive but I am over myself now. All fine. Thank you though. Brew Painting my nails dark red. Wondering why this bottle is more runny than the exact same formula and colour I had last time. 🤔

EnidButton · 23/12/2017 23:16

botemp · 23/12/2017 23:29

I'm determined to make fangry a thing now. In spirit of the thread title, it should probably be fantastically angry but I think I like fecking angry better [santa]

BagelGoesWalking · 24/12/2017 01:30

Enid I lost it with my OH and DD18 tonight. She'd said since y'day she wanted to make simple biscuits to ice. Finally started at 6 then realised mix need to chill for hour in fridge etc etc. So, finally done by 9. I need alone time and haven't had any since college broke up and OH had eye op so has been resting in bed for 5 days. He needs to, but the bedroom is my refuge!

OH annoyed me shitless by saying I had to phone his friend's wife to ask what time drinks at theirs tomorrow. He was the one who talked to friend, why can't he bloody ask. I don't want to go anyway as the guy is a mysoginistic prick who thinks he's got a hotline to Jesus! Also DS26 now arriving tomorrow and I'd prefer to spend time with him before his GF arrived Xmas day.

Plus, need cooking and all that crap on Xmas day to be over.

BagelGoesWalking · 24/12/2017 01:33

Completely stupid things to get riled up about, of course, but I feel my mood descending rapidly and the need to be cheery all the time creates a strain. My need for alone time is so strong now and my capacity for being the one to "give" all the time is diminishing.
