Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

Of course Bo. Grin.

EnidButton · 19/12/2017 13:41

Choppy layers were what I had for years until I found a hairdresser who slowly cut them out until it was one length. I didn't even notice until a few hair cuts later I realised my hair looked the best it ever had and asked what she'd done. Simplified it basically. One length, tiny bit of graduation at the front ends. So wtf I then had 'long' (🤨) layers at that last haircut is anyone's guess. Anyway I agree that thick hair often falls better without lots of layers.

No skincare to report. I'm feeling very stressed atm though so it might show on my face soon.

Ollivander84 · 19/12/2017 18:21

I ordered the Kiku long name high moist toner which arrived today Grin looking forward to trying it. Has ceramides in which my skin always needs

EnidButton · 19/12/2017 20:50

Are you going to use it right away Olli? Sounds interesting. I'm a sucker for anything with nourishing or moisture in the name.

Ollivander84 · 19/12/2017 20:55

Of course Grin patience is not one of my qualities. Slapped it on, feels nice and smells weird. Possibly of foam bananas Confused

EnidButton · 19/12/2017 20:58

That sounds really nice! Grin

JDSTER · 19/12/2017 22:09

Toleriane hydrating cleanser nice, prefer it to toleriane dermo cleanse. milford it has niacinamide in it so maybe not for you. I’m also oily and I like cosrx low ph good morning gel cleanser.

Tantpoke · 19/12/2017 23:10

My skin has lost its way a bit (as have I) due to crappy illness the last few days.

I've been slathering vaseline liberally on my red and dry peeling nostrils between frequent nose blowing ie every couple of minutes for days

Now I'm less attached to my tissues I am now slathering on REN evercalm global protection day cream. Its too rich for me normally but seems so far to be giving my nostrils the tlc they are crying out for.

Fingers crossed I will look vaguely human in the morning.
Actually I've just dabbed on more vaseline Xmas Confused I am convinced my nostrils need the full monty still. God help my skin, please no spots

Tantpoke · 19/12/2017 23:31

pupsie even with poker straight same length hair you can get the look you want with some styling products and hair curler or straighteners to give thick tously curls which will then also in turn give the look of being a choppy cut. You just need a lot of patience and time.

EnidButton · 20/12/2017 01:24

Try lanolin Tant or cicaplast

Hope your feel better tomorrow. Look after yourself. Brew

Tantpoke · 20/12/2017 03:34

enid Thank you Brew I have cicaplast mains for hands which I decided to use on my nose and it stung like hell, so I'm not rushing out to buy the one for facial use even though its probably amazing.
My circadian rhythm is all over the shop at the moment >sigh< so I have been internet shopping browsing with the excuse of present buying and I am going off on all sorts of interesting fantasy deluded purchasing tangents mainly ridiculoulsy expensive jewelery which quite frankly I deserve and just kind of want because it looks pretty Blush

Tantpoke · 20/12/2017 03:51

Any one of these will do me fine Wink I genuinely love them all

userallusedup · 20/12/2017 12:00

Tant lansinoh worked wonders on my nose when I had the ever lasting lurgy, hope you feel better soon Flowers

Milford I have the hylamide cleanser mentioned above, I love it but it’s an oil so first cleanse rather than second.

I’m another with thick hair, mine is also coarse and frizzy. I can’t do layers or go short as I just end up with even more frizz and/or the dreaded triangle head. I need the length to keep my hair under some sort of control - I’m ‘too old’ for very long hair according to some of the posts I’ve read on here but I don’t really care. My hair doesn’t hold any kind of style so it’s either long or a buzz cut so I’m sticking with long.

miffy2 · 20/12/2017 17:25

Quick update to say my skin is in great nick this month. Usually this time of year I get wind-burn, cold-burn etc, with red, stingy cheeks. I spend a fair amount of time outdoors in my working day. So anyway I am delighted that this is not happening these days.

My AM routine is something like this:
cleanse
DE Vitamin C (I am another who is very happy with this but am weeping at the future cost)
Vichy 89 or Pestle & Mortar HA
day cream (trialling one by Belif and alternating it with Kiehls super multi-corrective cream) and I am adding 2-3 drops of Codage No 1 serum
Nivea SPF 30 that I got from iHerb.

On the hair front I am another with quite thick hair (or as one hairdresser said once, I have fine hair...just an awful bloody lot of it!) I find it best around shoulder length, it is currently shaped so it is shorter at the back, longer in front, and rather than choppy layers I just get it thinned a bit when it is cut. I can still tie it back, curl it if needed etc. I also find if I don't blow dry it, and leave it to dry by itself, then it looks completely pants by lunchtime. Like I am hiding a couple of nests in it.

On a different tangent I am looking at getting a new perfume from Atelier Cologne. I was excited to see them in Brown Thomas (Dublin dept store) as I have only ever gotten samples online from Sephora. I bought a bottle of Vanilla Insensee online from John Lewis last year as it was reduced (I had tried a sample). I think I might get Orange Sanguine (have also tried it) and if you buy a large bottle you get a 30ml of any fragrance free...I was thinking of Trefle Pur or Grand Neroli (Tom Ford Neroli Portofine being my most favourite perfume). I will wait and see if I get money or vouchers for Christmas before taking the plungs Grin. Anyone else on the hunt for a new fragrance?

EnidButton · 20/12/2017 17:58

I really liked a sample of Donna by Valentino a while back but it doesn't seem to be very popular because can't find it in an actually shop. It's quite an old fashioned powdery rose kind of scent with a hint of something else. Need another sniff to see. My favourite is Coco Mademoiselle and I've seen that others who like that also like Donna.

Ollivander84 · 20/12/2017 18:43

Tsmummy I can't get on my messages but it has arrived! Thank you again

EnidButton · 20/12/2017 18:43

Ffs. I coloured my hair using the same dye as last time. Ignored the advice to only apply to roots and then ends only for 5 mins.

Roots are ashy, the rest has a distinctly gingery tone. It's semi so will have to have patience that it'll even out. If I wrap my hair up in a bun it looks like I stuck it on As it's a different colour. Hmm I give up.

Tantpoke · 20/12/2017 21:27

enid this is exactly the reason the last 2 times I've dyed my hair i just did the roots and didn't bother with the rest and it's been fine, i'm hoping it's better for my hair in the long run.

EnidButton · 20/12/2017 23:09

Really wish I had done the same Tant. It must be too soon after the last time, I just thought I'd freshen up ready for Xmas day. I suppose it will wash out eventually. It's gone frizzy and dry at the ends too. It went so well last time! Gaaah.
Plan is, Elastisizer on it in on Xmas eve, scrub ends with Lush salty Big shampoo, leave conditioner on for 10 mins before rinsing.

Serves me right for ignoring instructions. Blush It's not that bad, just not what I wanted or as good as last time.

MilfordFound · 21/12/2017 06:31

Thanks for the recommendations, I've gone for the Cosrx low ph good morning cleanser. I have the Cosrx Snail 92 cream which I love so I'm hoping I like the cleanser too. On a whim I ordered the Cosrx one step pimple pads too. I was using PC BHA earlier in the year but ran out. Replaced it with TO Salicylic Acid, which unfortunately I really dislike. I was trying to be strong and use it up and swap back to PC when finished.... Oh well, I'll see how I get on with the pads instead!

Ollivander84 · 21/12/2017 16:43

Apologies for lighting (in car) but that stila is such a nice nude shade on me!

Your eyebrows look so good Olli! They came out really well. Good look.

Ollivander84 · 21/12/2017 17:26

I've got my top up next month, just a few missed patches that need doing but really pleased with them

mintmagnummm · 22/12/2017 14:57

Skin gone crazy AGAIN! I'm due on anytime now and my periods are very irregular and bad, some months my skin is ok others I look like an acne ridden teenager!, I'm poorly, have a cold and feel run down, I'm stressed more than usual because of the Christmas panic of food shopping, gift buying and wrapping etc. So basically I look and feel like crap 😪

botemp · 22/12/2017 15:49

Oh, no, mint Flowers I often think Christmas was chiefly created to drive women round the bend. Take a breather!
