Best leather jacket, please?

Biker style, I think, black, soft leather.

Not too long, not too short..

I am a size twelve, big boobs, not thin, and in my forties, but don't want anything frumpy.

Look for leather jackets form the 'tall' ranges - asos do them and so do topshop

WhataHexIgotinto · 21/08/2017 10:48

I got a lovely one in Oasis last year. I went for dark grey rather than black in the end as it was a bit 'softer' for my age colouring.

chloechloe · 21/08/2017 12:40

Good tip mowglik! Thanks!

Glitteryfrog · 21/08/2017 13:59

My gripe with leather jackets is that they're usually too short for my very long arms. BLK DNM is perfect length for me.

My muubaa has very long arms (I picked the one with the sleaves covering the models hands!)

I have a Muuba that's almost 3/4 sleeves in length eventhough it's not supposed to be 3/4 sleeved :(

I've been saving up for an All Saints jacket knowing they will have good reductions on Black Friday...then I found a Zara leather jacket in the sale 3 weeks ago for £50!It's soft, fits perfectly, not too heavy and just right. Glad I didn't spend £300.

user1497991628 · 22/08/2017 16:39

The oasis one is not nice!

The hardware looks quite cheap, and it's all a bit shiny. Just a tad, but enough, along with the peculiar high up at the back cut, to look very muttony on me.

Back to the drawing board...

I liked the washed look of the topshop one better, so will maybe keep checking to see if they get it back in stock in non-Tall range.

What a shame. They seem to be doing less and less leather. It used to be really good.

user1497991628 · 22/08/2017 19:20

Yes, there wasn't much.

It would probably be better once worn and more wrecked, but the high back/low front of the waistline is deeply weird: but like a waiter, or a drummer.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/08/2017 19:40

Lol. Mine are both a couple of years old now, and I can't say I've noticed anything weird about the shape. Or maybe I'm a weird shape! Grin

user1497991628 · 22/08/2017 20:44

It's cut on a slope...you can't tell from the pictures, but see it in the video.

I think jackets are cut like that to allow you to wear them with dresses?

Sorry it didn't suit you, there's a perfect one waiting for you somewhere!

user1497991628 · 22/08/2017 20:58

Thanks!

I tried it on with a dress; looked a bit Cilla Black/Loose Women/Little Drummer Boy 😀

Maybe I'm just too old.

Eh it's such a difficult line to walk isn't it. Good luck though. I do like my Mint Velvet one a lot, maybe there's something there, if you haven't had a look yet.

chajazam · 22/08/2017 21:05

I have two (nude and black) from massimo dutti. Around £200 and really soft. I also got a good deal from an all saints outlet on a suede jacket but to be honest I prefer the feel of the massimo jackets.

JaceLancs · 22/08/2017 23:05

Another massimo dutti fan, I also looked very sympathetically at jaeger but out of stock in my size

totoromama · 22/08/2017 23:17

OP are you me? That is exactly what I am looking for. I have a lovely one that I got over 10 years ago in golders green in a leather shop but it now has a couple of holes in it. I want to get another but I'm not sure about all saints. Not the price so much prepared to pay up to £500 but thinking more Harley Davidson jackets.

user1497991628 · 22/08/2017 23:25

Ooh, might take a look, more looking for ageing rock hen style than Smart Going Out....

OP I just tried on a reiss collarless jacket and it looked great. Not too much hardware, bit of quilted detailing on the arms and a close fit. The leather is soft and not stiff and feels nice and light on. The style is quite reserved as well if you have reservations about it looking a bit too trendy

Last thing I need is another leather jacket but I'm seriously thinking about this one.

HolgerDanske · 23/08/2017 11:09

Sigh, I like that one very much.

I seriously need to step away from S&B, I think...

user1497991628 · 23/08/2017 16:38

Oh, my, that one looks lovely.......

Mmmm, can I justify the price??

Maybe should just try it and see if it's nice on me...

chloechloe · 23/08/2017 16:39

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned but there are quite a few in the Whistles sale online at the mo!

user1497991628 · 23/08/2017 22:37

I have ordered three of the reiss ones to try... am hoping I like the one that reduced to £155....

Maybe bragging, but I just want to share I scored for cheap (£100 - original was £432; same jackets currently selling pre-owned for aroun £200) a really nice one on eBay. Never worn according to the seller, and it was the exact jacket I was lusting for three years ago!

CheckingMyPrivilege · 23/08/2017 23:23

It's the Witchery jacket in this article.

I'm so happy!
