Just before I chopped my long hair off, I discovered chopstick up-dos - genius!
Works with a pencil, a knitting needles, aforementioned chopstick or of course a rather fabulous hair stick.

Have a look on YouTube - they are so easy, really stable and comfortable and IMO look really cool.

So, I went and got a pixie... Grin

Hmmmm...I go with ponytails. I vary between high and low ponies! I didn't realise I should be looking for something more "mature". Tbf I'm only just over 40 so I'm hoping its still acceptable, particularly as a nice high pony will hide my roots when they're showing Grin

I'm over 40 and wear a pony tail

clairethewitch70 · 10/08/2017 22:37

I wear my hair like this

Is it just me thinking that hair stick will need its own risk assessment at work?

The first picture on the link

Pigtails are a no no but I think a pony tail is just fine on the aged ladies of 40 and up.

AdoraBell · 10/08/2017 22:39

I literally twist mine around until it forms a kind of bun and then secure it with one of them hair dresser type clips. I was looking at tutorials for a chignon last week. It looked easy, but I have yet to actually bother try it.

RJnomore1 · 10/08/2017 22:40

WAssup with pony tails?

Or pig tails for that matter?

MarklahMarklah · 10/08/2017 22:40

I only wear mine loose or in a pony tail. I don't like my hair short, but I do like it colourful.

stillvicarinatutu · 10/08/2017 22:40

i twist mine up and clip it - pull bits around my face to soften it.

Doobigetta · 10/08/2017 22:41

Twisty bun secured with a silicone coil thing. Or a side plait. I wouldn't not do a ponytail though. Two plaits might be a step too far.

squoosh · 10/08/2017 22:43

Pigtails are gorgeous on little girls. Less so on anyone over the age of 8.

Why is a ponytail not ok over 40 btw?

NC4now · 10/08/2017 22:47

I'm 40 and wear a ponytail. Also a messy bun, a side bun, French plait across the back of my head into side plait or bun, or boxer braids for the gym.

ClickHip · 10/08/2017 23:03

Good ideas. Thank you Smile . A few websites i saw said over 40 no pony tail. I wear mine in high and low pony tails. I thought I had better get some more ideas if I was committing a terrible hair faux pas. Is it not a 'thing' then, pony tails over 40??!!

Just need to find a hair stabber now....

46
Thick curly hair, to below my shoulders.
Tend to do it in a loose pony tail folded back in itself, like a sort of loose bun.

GerardButlersBeard · 10/08/2017 23:15

Why is having a ponytail not ok for ladies over 40? I have a ponytail when I go to the gym. In fact, there are ladies there in their 60s sporting ponytails. Maybe we should have a nice sensible hairstyle befitting our advanced years!!! Grin

Shitalopram · 10/08/2017 23:17

I had long hair until quite recently (well past 40!) and I loved the "hair up with a single bobby pin" chignon (although I'd usually add a couple more pins to be sure)

Will see if I can find the video...
