and bridesmaids dresses (& how many)?

I had always assumed £1000 would be cheapo for a 'proper' dress, but seeing some of the links posted recently there look to be some nice ones for £200-300. So I just wondered what you all paid for yours (not that I have any plans for needing one in teh near future)?

About £300, but that was 8 years ago.

agalch · 20/03/2007 18:32

I paid 200 quid in the sale and have lost a fair bit of weight so paying 90 for alterations too.

And is it gorgeous!!!!

wurlywurly · 20/03/2007 18:32

£300 but i got it in a sale

oxocube · 20/03/2007 18:32

About 200 quid, 16 years ago from Laura Ashley. Bridesmaids' dresses (2) were hired for about 30 quid each

cece · 20/03/2007 18:32

I had mine designed and made for me by a dressmaker for about £650 I think - was 8 years ago though

SlightlyMadScientist · 20/03/2007 18:33

£1000 is certainly more than necessary then!!!

FurryFox · 20/03/2007 18:34

Mine was £800 and only 3 years ago. Bridemaids were about £70 each I think.

SlightlyMadScientist · 20/03/2007 18:36

Sounds like I could spend more on bridesmaids than the brides dress. I have 6 bridesmaids and 2 page boys waiting in line if I include all my DC and DN's!!!

I paid £600 for mine in 2004 off the rail. Think bridesmaids dresses were just over £100 each (had 2 - my sis and neice).

btw I only tried it on cos my mum wanted me too, it wasn't what I was expecting to like but as soon as i put it on I knew it was the right dress. Have an open mind when trying dresses!!! HTH & congrats.

£500 7 years ago.

Bought bridesmaid dresses from Monsoon which is much cheaper and means they can wear them again.

Paid £450 8 years ago (full price). Still have it -do you want it? £100?

Rantum · 20/03/2007 18:41
Wink

Mine was around £300. Bridesmaids dresses were £30 from Debenhams. I wish I had been into charity shops then like I am now, I'd probably have picked up a real bargain. I just couldn't have brought myself to spend £1000 on a dress I was only going to wear once.

nogoes · 20/03/2007 18:46

£800, 11 years ago. Bridesmaids dresses were made and worked out at about £100 each.

Baysmum · 20/03/2007 18:46

Mine was over 2000K Im ashamed to admit but - in my defence - I was 20 wks pregnant and it had to be made to measure and constantly altered! It was absolutely gorgeous and I cant even bring myself to sell it!

nogoes · 20/03/2007 18:47

THey are much better value these days, you can get a decent dress for a couple of hundred quid, when I got married £800 was considered a bargain most dresses were well over £1000.

Tommy · 20/03/2007 18:48

mine was about £250 and the bridesmaids were about £40 each IIRC - 6 years ago

paid £650 for mine (was designed and made for me) plus £100 for a veil and tiara

3 adult bridesmaid dresses, wraps and small bags in same material were £450 including alterations (were beautiful loved my bridesmaid dresses)

accessories for all of us (shoes, necklaces, headresses for bridesmaids) came to £125

that was in 2003

ghosty · 20/03/2007 18:52

I agree with nogoes. When I was getting married (9 years ago) it was hard to find a really nice dress off the peg. VVVQV's dress that she linked us all to the other day is absolutely stunning but no way could I find something like that at a decent off the peg price in 1998. Mine was 400 pounds and considered a real bargain - it would probably be 100 pounds today.
The bridesmaid dresses were made and cost 40 pounds each.

lulumama · 20/03/2007 18:53

solid gold manolo blahniks, then LL??

ellieandhattie · 20/03/2007 18:53

oh forgot my little one £60 dress in BHS (Colour happened to match perfectly) and shoes BHS £20 plus £5 in claires accessories for small glittery headband and necklace
