and bridesmaids dresses (& how many)?

I had always assumed £1000 would be cheapo for a 'proper' dress, but seeing some of the links posted recently there look to be some nice ones for £200-300. So I just wondered what you all paid for yours (not that I have any plans for needing one in teh near future)?

As it was my second marriage I only wanted to spend as little as poss. My DH was shocked that and a bit dissapointed that I was willing to go to Monsoon and pick something off the peg. Anyway as most dresses seem to be strapless and made for the twentysomething bride I decided to have one made. It cost £2000 approx and all the extras like underwear, shoes, tiara have to accounted for! Worth it as it was original and gorgeous! Probably will sell it though.

£1000 was told by future in laws that it looked cheap and that I shoudld ahve let them buy it!

I thought it was lovely!

£300 for material and a friend to make it. That was 12 years ago. I looked liked this, but with a long trailey, forest green waistcoat over the top

only happier,lol

I didn't have bridesmaids as I couldn't afford it and twasn't that sort of wedding really.

I paid about 350 pounds for mine. Happened to be working in Poland at the time where European designed dresses are at least half the price that you would pay for the same dress in the UK. They also have a massive selection as you would expect in a good Catholic country. The saving would be worth the price of a cheap flight to Warsaw and a weekend away .

My dress was £600 but with adjustments and accessories it was almost £1000, that was 9 years ago.

I paid about £900 for my dress but because Selfridges make a complete c..k up of the order I ended up going to my frineds wedding in South Africa 2 weeks before my own wedding with no dress in sight. So while I was away my mum went to BHS and bought me one off the peg for £99 as a stand by. Luckily for me (and for Selfridges) they got it sorted in time but I had my final fitting in the toilets at the office where I worked (they sent the seamstress and fitter to me).

Mum and I had a laugh taking the BHS one back though 2 weeks later

When I got married I wore a dress that I had worn as a bridesmaid two years before. It had cost me £250 and I felt that I had to wear it again to get my moneys worth out of it. It's a lovely periwinkle blue empire line dress and I had shoes dyed to match.

The bride who I was bridesmaid for spent over £1800 on her wedding dress. She had three bridesmaids and we all had to pay for our dresses ourselves. That was 7 years ago.

Mine was about 650. Shoes were 50ish. No veil but tiara was a bargain at 27!
1 Bridesmaid dress was 65 - my bouquet was 85! Don't tell dh!

just remembered my for my first marriage my dress cost over a $1000 but knew someone in the trade who got it for me direct from the manufacturer in Hong Kong for $100. Just goes to show what the mark up is!
