How much was you wedding dress to buy/hire???

and bridesmaids dresses (& how many)?

I had always assumed £1000 would be cheapo for a 'proper' dress, but seeing some of the links posted recently there look to be some nice ones for £200-300. So I just wondered what you all paid for yours (not that I have any plans for needing one in teh near future)?

i can understand that i had a shoe habit, before i had the DCs

bubblerock · 20/03/2007 19:01

£100, 10 years ago - it was half price in Monsoon No real bridesmaids, just my two best mates dressed in normal clothes.

PeachyClair · 20/03/2007 19:04

Which one LOL

I bought one for my aborted wedding (split beforehand, proper white one, that cost £250, replaced it (but didn't decide which to wear until the day) with a dark grey (embroidered sari style in navy) dress and full length coat for £150 from John Lewis.

Spent mroe sn my sisters bridesmaid dresses- then the buggers refused to be bridesmaids!

MrsBadger · 20/03/2007 19:27

£250 in a sale (though the alterations added a good chunk)
bridesmaids £80 each I think (BHS!)

depends where you shop and if you care whether you have polyester or real silk etc...

MrsBadger · 20/03/2007 19:29

oh and if you get the option fgs hire the petticoat - they are an utter pain to store.

serenity · 20/03/2007 19:35

£60 for the material (raw silk) and £10 for the pattern (Vogue maternity evening dress), which shows how much 'labour' costs (not disputing that the seamstress earns it, just very, very glad that MIL was one at the time )

Cappuccino · 20/03/2007 19:44

like serenity

sixty quid and a vogue pattern

mind you did it myself with my mum, who is not a seamstress

serenity · 20/03/2007 19:49

I don't sew, even my buttons look uneven, and it made MIL happy

cazzybabs · 20/03/2007 19:51

dress £2000
veil 200
tiara 120
shoes 300ish (they were in the sale - Jimmy shoes)

This was almost a year ago....I wish I could do it all over again.

it all pails in to comparison with the cost of the cake which was half the cost of the dress but was sooooo yummy

Cappuccino · 20/03/2007 19:52

a thousand quid for a cake?

did it have hash in it?

MrsBadger · 20/03/2007 19:56

at that price I'd expect cocaine, not hash...

nickytwotimes · 20/03/2007 19:56

i got mine in debenhams for 90 quid

cazzybabs · 20/03/2007 19:56

I know...what a waste of money. God it was lovely though...I still dream about it! I would buy it again if I could. And we are not that well off!!!

We had a layer of fruit cake (which was so moist more fruit than cake), a chocolate brownie type layer (yumm), a carrot cake and a lemon sponge type thing (probably not as good as Mars).

cazzybabs · 20/03/2007 19:57

littlelapin - yes!

VoluptuaGoodshag · 20/03/2007 19:59

£75 brand new but previous year's range, that included alteration. I would have bought it had it been £500, it was perfect.

Shoes were £25 from the same shop. Had no veil, just real flowers dotted in my hair which, along with button holes and the bouquet, came to £40. The florist had been turfed out her shop and was working from home until she found new accommodation. She made an extra special effort because I stuck with her when she had no-where to go so my bouquet was stunning.

Do I get the cheapest frock prize then?

beansprout · 20/03/2007 20:00

£80 off ebay. Was a Monsoon jobbie.

£950 for my dress
£60 for shoes
£120 for adult bridesmaid

Did spend £1500 for 2 cakes, 1 wedding cake and 1 surprise cake (for dh) for buffet. Really good value though cos they were both beautiful and really tasty.

SlightlyMadScientist · 20/03/2007 20:20

more ed at the price of some of these shoes.

In my dream I plan to wear a dress to the ground so I can wear my comfy slabs of wranglers!!!

£750 for my dress, 8 years ago. Not sure about veil, etc. Bridesmaids were made by my auntie. Again not sure of cost.

My sister's was nearly £2000 2 years ago.

ImaWurzel · 20/03/2007 20:47

£600 for my dress, Tiara was pressie from my sis.
Older birdesmaids paid for their dresses. £80 each and MIL paid for younger 2 dresses £40. We brought their shoes.

SlightlyMadScientist · 20/03/2007 20:50
