Nooooothing to wear...

Please help me, oh style gurus.
I am going to a party on sat night.
I never go to parties - eek. It's a 30th birthday but they are all young 30s IYKWIM - hardly a mum among them. What shall I wear?

I'm thinking dark jeans, heels and a nice top - but which top? And which heels?

Any alternatives to jeans?
TIA

Def wear jeans - but NICE jeans, not trainer school run jeans.

What figure like? Do you like wearing heels? How tlal etc?

nailpolish · 16/03/2007 15:12

do you have skinny jeans? that and a nice tunic top and boots

or leggings? with boots is nice and you can get loads of tunic tops in dorothy perkins and top shop

doggiesayswoof · 16/03/2007 15:21

My nicest jeans are gap long & lean - dark wash. NP I am a bit scared of skinny jeans/leggings as I am quite big-thighed

Mamag I am 5'7", pear shaped. I like heels, esp wedges.

tunic tops sound interesting

oh yes then tunic top, nice jeans and wedges with great jewellery sounds good

lots of nice cheap costume jewellery in the shops at the mo

nailpolish · 16/03/2007 15:24

doggie you can hide thighs with leggings and tunics honest

ill try some links

nailpolish · 16/03/2007 15:25

do you ahve a budget?

doggiesayswoof · 16/03/2007 15:27

Budget, hmm - £40 for top and jewellery.

doggiesayswoof · 16/03/2007 15:28

and another

jeans

but i thinkyou could try leggins with boots

plain boots

am doing this with 5 4yrolds running around so bear with me!

nailpolish · 16/03/2007 15:31

leggins and tunic are great - once you try you will love them! i even have a glittery pair from TS that i wore at xmas [blsuh]

doggiesayswoof · 16/03/2007 15:33

Thanks NP, I love the first tunic - the black and lime. Still nervous about skinny jeans but I have never even tried a pair on so maybe I should...

Is dottie p's also good for jewellery? was pissed off with principles as I got some quite pricey sotume jewellery in there and it fell apart really quickly

OP posts:
doggiesayswoof · 16/03/2007 15:34

sotume = costume

OP posts:
nailpolish · 16/03/2007 15:36

skinny jeans are not generous with sizing but dont let it put you off. i have a pair from next that i really like (but im 5' so its irrelevant)

dot p's are ok for jewellery but its pretty cheapy

for costume jewellery i like topshop, accessorise/monsoon and wallis

doggiesayswoof · 16/03/2007 15:37

thanks again for tips np, I think I may be off to the hated braehead tomorrow morning...

with a tunic a nice long line necklace can be nice or long earrings

and you can try belts if the tunic is plain

french connection have nice belts

nailpolish · 16/03/2007 15:38

enjoy the party!

(ps i didnt know you were in glasgow)

FoghornLeghorn · 16/03/2007 15:40

Can I also second the leggings - I am quite thighy, not lost all baby weight and have always suffered with big thighs but I brought a silverish dress from oasis with black leggings and the black slouchy boots like NP's link but that laced up the back and I felt brilliant - Thighs didn't bother me one iota.

I brought a lovely necklace and bangle from oasis too. I also like alot of Miss Selfridge jewwllry, v. cheap

Gobbledigook · 16/03/2007 15:41

I'm going out tonight and I am wearing:

Nice jeans
either these or these - not decided yet
and the shirt on page 7 of womenswear

There is a gorgeous silk tunic in Monsoon at the moment - it's in Red magazine but I can't see it on the website - £55 and it's red with a pattern on. It's stunning - on my 'to buy' list

Agree with others - nice jeans, tunic top, wedges, jewellery (Accessorize great for jewellery - bought a load yesterday!). You'll look fabbo.

Gobbledigook · 16/03/2007 15:41

Oh, I'm attempting to look a bit more 'trendy' by wearing large hoop earrings tonight. Not tried it yet but hardly ever take out my diamond studs so really 'going wild' tonight

FoghornLeghorn · 16/03/2007 15:42

this is the dress - reduced from £50 to £30.
Get cheapo leggings from H&M if not sure

doggiesayswoof · 16/03/2007 15:44

Ooh foghorn that outfit sounds really lovely - bet you looked fab. you lot are inspiring me to try leggings - I think part of my resistance to them is because I wore them last time round when I was a student.

I remember an outift consisting of an oversized Cure t-shirt, red leggings and a pair of doc martens [shudder]

long pendant

this sort of thing in any colour goes with tunics

long long pendant

next have ok jewellery occasionally too

Gobbledigook · 16/03/2007 15:44

look at this - I tried this on yesterday and it was lovely. In the shop it has a black belt with it though. THe only reason I didn't buy it is because the one I tried was too big and they didn't have the smaller one. It's nice and trendy though!

nailpolish · 16/03/2007 15:45

topshop have the best leggings and only £12

(ps leggings in the 21st century take much much longer to go baggy at knees!)

prawnsmum · 16/03/2007 15:45

Primark has black leggings for £7 at the moment and a lovely blue swirly coloured tunic for only £8 try there first if your going to breahead
