I've had a really tough time recently and have a big wedding coming up that I'd like to go to feeling lovely.

I've bought the navy dress in the pic and whilst it looks nice on, I'm not sure it's THE dress. I am also oddly drawn to the stripy asos one but I don't like having my arms on show so would need some kind of cover up.

Can you lovely mumsnetters help me find something really awesome?

I am size 10, early thirties and open to suggestions. Generally sway towards a mid length and like I've said before, like to cover my arms. Legs are pretty good and I'm not averse to a jumpsuit. Budget up to £150 ish. Help me please :)

What a stunning dress. And there's nowt wrong with your arms - get 'em on show.

I agree - big hair and bold nails. Are you blonde? Brunette?

And a one piece chunky Bangle. The dress in itself is a show stopper. Classy OP, very classy.

Totally disagree with people saying it covers you up too much. The more I look at it, the more I love it. I don't like the shoes though.

Some ornate drop earrings this sort of thing would look nice. There will be lots like that - this was just a v quick look to give an idea. These are black but I'm sure dark blue will be around somewhere too.

Nice shoes

I love the shape of that dress OP but think the pattern is a bit on the heavy / oppressive side. Also you say you don't think it's THE dress. So keep looking. Be on a mission to find the one that makes you feel truly amazing.

You have a fab figure (and good arms what are you on about?!).

I actually think it looks better on you than in the picture of the model!

The striped dress feels a bit too casual to me somehow.

You look stunning in the first dress. It's so lovely. With the right accessories and hair etc you'll look even more rocking.

That dress is beautiful - and have a quick look through Pippa Middleton's wedding coverage to see that high necklines like that are bang on trend right now Smile

Wear the navy and gold one - it looks really beautiful on you! I like the gold shoes with it.

I posted very early on in the thread - have just come back and seen the pic of you in the dress. You look fabulous!! Your shoes look ace too, a great match.

Don't fake tan, I always think it looks cheap.
You look fine as it is.

Second the recommendation upthread for some earrings and a bag, don't go over the top with accessories, since the dress is ornate.

Make sure you post a pic back on here if you on the day - you'll look ace. Enjoy!

I think that you look fab in it, Op.

Personally not keen on the shoes though.

They look too pale to me!

You are all so kind Grin thank you for the confidence boost. I've been having such a wobble lately and felt like I'd lost my style (which clearly i am still a little hit and miss given some of the comments towards the stripy one I posted!).

I'm going to go for gold or navy strappy shoes I think, depending on what I can find and minimal on the Jewellery. Someone asked up thread what colour my hair is, its blonde, mid length, I think I'd need to wear it up with the dress?

Remus - those earrings are lovely but wouldn't it need to be a navy stone?

I've just tried it on again with a variety of jackets/cover ups (it's in a marquee so might get chilly later on). The one that looked best was a bolero shape, literally just sleeves and tight fitting round the back. Trouble is it's the wrong colour so now I'm on the hunt for a navy one!

Ooh I like those Remus - sorry I missed the colour options when I looked before!

Thanks intra - I think it needs to be a little more fitted than those, the high neck means it looks a bit odd with the looser styles.

That is a beautiful dress and looks fantastic on you. I like the skirt of the stripey one but the top us a bit too weird/ LA. The one you have is definitely better imho!

You don't need a cover up but if you did want one I would go something navy and cropped.

Those shoes look perfectly ok but I agree for more if a @wow" I would go something navy strappy navy blingy and slightly higher if you can bear it.

Gold drop earrings?
Hope you have a great time.

Bright pink shoes and bag. Don't match accessories to the dress. Much more show stopping then. You look stunning in that dress btw

If you don't want to spray tan, what is great is buy a tanning mitt plus a can of Sally Hansen Legs (in one of the darker shimmer colours). Spray the Mitt not your body and then rub quickly in circular motions as if you are polishing a table.
Don't be afraid of it, it washes off easy with water and a washcloth, but won't rub off.
Gives a great effect, easy to apply without streaks, and can be done in 3 minutes. Great for arms and legs if you only want to do just arms and/or legs. You can more if it's not dark enough.

OP you look great in the first dress and you really don't need to show more flesh as per previous pps comments. High neck dresses can look very classy. I would keep accessories - shoes, bag, earrings - navy though not gold.

How about a navy pashmina as a coverup?

mowglik · 21/05/2017 11:38

Oh and I agree keep the shoes strappy and light as the dress itself is quite heavy

Lots of good advice on this thread!
