Ideal for playing a pirate in the next Christmas pantomime though.

MinesaPinot · 15/05/2017 13:20

I like reading reviews but tend to take them with a pinch of salt, after all, one man's meat is another man's poison as the saying goes.

But I saw The Dress in M & S at Bluewater on Saturday and ye gods, it is truly bloody awful. DH saw me looking at it, went very pale and said "you're not thinking of trying that on are you?"

The fabric, the cut, the colour, absolutely everything was so wrong on so many levels, it's dreadful.

Have you guessed I don't like it much......?

Wormulonian · 15/05/2017 13:31

This thread has given me a laugh ( and boy do I need one) Thanks everyone Grin

originalbiglymavis · 15/05/2017 16:23

For a real laugh go the Selfridges designer clothes section. Oh my eyes! And the price tags!!!

OhNoItIsntOhYesItIs · 15/05/2017 16:53

I'm working away from home at the moment, and have the morning free tomorrow. If the local (smallish) M&S in the town where I currently am has the pepto-bismol dress and the fat daffodil blouse, I will go and try them on. I am size 18-20 so the horror will be significant.

OhNoItIsntOhYesItIs · 16/05/2017 13:28

No changing room attendants to give me funny looks, thankfully. Black underwear was definitely not the right choice. I felt sweaty after wearing each of them for about a minute, and the pink in particular is that proper heavy 1970's polyester crimplene. The pink fits where it touches, to quote my Grandma, and the yellow gave me wrestler shoulders

Another selfless act for the greater good. Bring back natural fibres!

MrsGotobed · 16/05/2017 13:38

That dress has all the style and elegance of a hospital operation gown. If you were to turn around OhNo I would expect to see your bum in paper pants

polyhymnia · 16/05/2017 13:38

Amazingly the pink one features in a whole page ad in today's Grazia, so presumably M and S think it appeals to fashion enthusiasts.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/05/2017 13:38

Bravo! It awful on you (I hope that doesn't sound rude. It's the dress, not you!) but then again it looks dreadful on the mannequin too!

I wonder if M&S PR people are reading this thread. They have spent a bloody fortune on promoting this abomination dress

MrsGotobed · 16/05/2017 13:44

The more I think about the more I'm convinced that this is a publicity stunt by M&S.

It's getting them talked about by people of all ages across the UK, it's on social media, it's in the press - a great PR exercise.

MinesaPinot · 16/05/2017 13:54

OhNo that is beyond the call of duty. I hope you rewarded yourself with a sit down and a nice glass of something Wine to get over the horror.

I also love your description as the "Pepto-Bismol" dress - I shall think of that every time I see it which hopefully won't be too often-

I hope to God that none of the youngsters in my office decide it's trendy (especially if it's been in Grazia) and wear it to work - I won't know where to look.

Akire · 16/05/2017 13:58

Well done :) no underwear would work on yellow number, do they expect normal people to wear vest top under polyester in summer??!!

Pink does look just like hospital gown nothing flattery about it even if you did hair flick and a skip .

QueenOfTheHighCs · 16/05/2017 13:59

Thank you all for this excellent thread - it's cheering me up no end as I sit by DD2's hospital bed (just come out of surgery)! There's an M and S Food and cafe in the hospital so I might just go and buy some Percy Pigs in your honour!

123MothergotafleA · 16/05/2017 14:48

I haven't been able to find any clothes in M&S for years and years.(
Not since they did some nice cardigans with nice buttons on the sleeves )
Seriously, I never see much that catches my eye anywhere ! I'm wearing clothes I've had for years, and heaven only knows what I will do when they're worn out.
We are all being treated like idiots by "the industry" they keep pumping out loads of tat that does not last or look good after a few wears and we are meant to keep buying.
M&S in particular have turned their back on classic styling in good quality fabrics for their core customers.
Don't get me started on their Sparks card, I've had it for a year and never used it yet.Am going to ditch it I think.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/05/2017 15:20

I used to like some of the Indigo tops. And my DD lives in their black skinnies.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/05/2017 16:15

123 when an M&S assistant asks me if I have a Sparks card, I always say "No, I've given up o the damn thing - it's crap!" and they inevitably agree

I may even bark "no I bloody haven't!" at the self-service food hall till when it asks me if I've swiped my fucking sparks card

styledilemma · 16/05/2017 17:00

Oh... it could be the next 'ice bucket challenge' type thing, presumably in view of the pinkness it woukd have to be for breast cancer.

It would make a good outfit to wear for a Race for Life or Pink Muddy challenge.
M & S could donate the proceeds for every dress pink monstrosity sold.

friskybivalves · 16/05/2017 17:39

Who wants one of my special 20% off codes to buy a bubblegum tent investment piece

ErrolTheDragon · 16/05/2017 18:10

M & S could donate the proceeds for every dress pink monstrosity sold.

The downside is, you would have to buy it. And M&S might miss the point of its apparent popularity.

Gingernaut · 16/05/2017 18:24

OhNoItIsntOhYesItIs. I salute you.

A brave woman who deserves a medal.

👑 I've found a crown in my emoji stash.

aheffalump · 16/05/2017 18:30

Superior fabric quality. Heh heh heh.

AuntPol · 16/05/2017 18:33

This is a screenshot from the article that aheffalump just posted. It's one of their new season offerings, presumably one that they're very pleased with.

I'm so pleased that M&S are finally listening to us, and making clothes that people actually might want to wear Confused
