Help. Is there a secret to putting on eye liner?

Spidermama · 10/03/2007 18:54

Everywhere I look there are women with beautifully applied eye liner.

I try. How do they make the liner join onto their eye? I have the liquid stuff with a brush, but do people put eye liner on the 'shelf' bit which is horizontal underneath the top lashes? Because I don;'t and I always have a gap. A stripe of pink underneath my liner.

Any tips would be appreciated.

do you do it eyes open or shut?

Spidermama · 10/03/2007 19:18

Open. I pull the eye out in a line with my finger. Do you put pencil on the pink bit under the lid? It sounds sore but I don't know how else to avoid the pink stripe under the liner line.

I always get a pink line too. I've never figured it out. I think I need lessons from DD who has been walking around with perfect eye liner since the age of 16. I don't know where she gets her talent from.

Seriously.. I do manage to cover the pink bit on my lower lids if the pencil is soft enough. But the upper lid just looks stupid.

my god that woman is scary , sorry .

I do it the same way you do, Spidermama but put the eyeliner above my lashes (well, right on them, I suppose). Am I doing it wrong? I use a pencil though and only do it from the outside corner of my eye to the middle-3/4 of the way accross - it's not a really dark eyeliner and is quite subtle. I don't end up with a pink stripe.

Spidermama · 10/03/2007 19:23

No longer an option for me fio. I'm even considering false lashes as mine are so minimal.

I didn't used to care but now I'm back in the workforce surrounded by young, beautiful, well made-up women.

A make-up artist once told me to try to apply eyeliner to the base of your eyelashes. It really works.
False eyelashes are great. The best ones are the individual clumps (Shu Umera do some that look incredibly realistic) that you just put on the outer half of you upper eyelid, so that you don't end up looking like Divine.
I find liquid eyeliner too easily botched, so I have a brilliant little flat brush and a cream eyeliner from Smashbox ( I bought it on QVC ) which I use every single day. I love it.

mrs apron-I am so jealous.HAs anyone noticed the difference, did you own up to people? How much was it?Where did you get it done?

themoon66 · 10/03/2007 19:51

MrsApron.... I'd love to have botox. How much did it cost and where did you have it done and did people comment that you looked weird or just that you looked better?? Ooooh am jealous.

themoon66 · 10/03/2007 19:52

But how old and wrinkled were you before MrsA?

brimfull · 10/03/2007 19:53

before and after pics??

brimfull · 10/03/2007 19:57

she's obviously off admiring herself in the mirror!

Spidermama · 10/03/2007 20:23

Sadly I'm at work so won't be able to get back to my mirror until the morning now.

Lots to try though. The stripe thing is still a mystery.

I bought a pencil recently and at the other end it has a rubber pointy thing which I can only assume is supposed to blend the liner. Does anybody really use this facility who doesn't have a masters degree in fine arts?

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 10/03/2007 20:25

is it definitely a rubber thing? because I bought one with one of those and after a few months, I dropped it and the rubber end fell out and on the other side of it (the bit in the pencil) was a very handy sharpener I'd failed to see

Spidermama · 10/03/2007 20:37

lol foxinsox. No this is definitely a rubber thing.

Another problems is though, I need glasses to put on eye liner but I obviously can';t get in there with them on so I'm doing it in very blurred conditions. I reckon that's why Barbara Cartland looks like she does. She puts on her own make-up on a blur of myopia.

lol

I've just read those tips and it says you should put (pencil) liner under your lower lashes - how the bloody hell do you do that? Mine are quite long, I'd need to hold them up with my other hand to get the pencil under there.

I never put it on the top lid - all sounds very complicated. I always put mascara on though.
