Does wearing LONSDALE make you common?

So... why is it that a brand of leisure wear not dissimilar to many others seems mainly to be worn by extremely fat, shuffling women sporting a 'Croydon facelift' with a fag hanging out of the side of their mouths?

Questions:

1 Are there any sophisticated types who would be seen in public wearing Lonsdale?

2 Do the 'common' looking ones start out that way, or do they metamorphose once they don the leisure wear?

Just asking...

I have 2 tops - a jumper/hoodie and a zip up jacket that is lonsdale.
does that make me common??

twinsetandpearls · 07/03/2007 21:59

I don't know what you are talking about, does that make me incredibly posh or very out of touch!

fortyplus · 07/03/2007 22:00

ImaWurzel - I don't know - that's why I'm asking! Are you posh or common?

Ah, that would explain why I found a lovely pink tracksuit top in TK Max for next to nothing! I bought it and have worn it but as I would never normally buy or wear anything branded I didn't know what the connotations were.

MrsBadger · 07/03/2007 22:01

[tin hat]
I think anything that has the brand name on it in letters three inches high looks common...
[scarpers sharpish]

Carmenere · 07/03/2007 22:02

Unless you are wearing it for sports purposes branded sports wear are common. They are particularly common on people who obviously don't do sports of any type.

ImaWurzel · 07/03/2007 22:02

The jackets/jumpers/sports wear like adidas and nike etc. But Lonsdale. Has a british flag on it i believe.
Never looked that close to mine.
I don't oen 'sophisticated' tops cos i work too much and don't go out anywhere except town!
So most of the stuff i wear is jeans/ jumpers/ zip jackets etc. Sad i know, but i have no cash to go buy shoot loads of clothing.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 07/03/2007 22:03

uhh, yes it does....

fortyplus · 07/03/2007 22:03

twinsetandpearls - It's a brand of leisure wear and when I stroll down to M&S at lunchtime in my sad middle aged way I've noticed lots of 20 something people dressed in Lonsdale - most of whom don't look as though they have very nice lives iykwim.

Honestly... take a look next time you're shopping - @Lonsdale' in a big curve across the front of the hoodie!

ImaWurzel · 07/03/2007 22:03

(and i still think i am 17!) I am 28.

twinsetandpearls · 07/03/2007 22:04

Oh no we don't do Lonsdale in Blackpool, we are very posh up here. Have to say I have never noticed the kids at school wearing it either.

ImaWurzel · 07/03/2007 22:05

Oh. define 'common'
I don't know which i should be in.

ssd · 07/03/2007 22:05

och, you're a bunch of snobs

what about wearing GAP or NEXT across your front?

twinsetandpearls · 07/03/2007 22:06

I also hate the brand name on clothes whether it be Next, Gap or anything else.

mainlymayday · 07/03/2007 22:06

have just gone right off my pink top...

I should have trusted my basic principle - never wear anything branded.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 07/03/2007 22:06

thats crap too! lol

skirmish · 07/03/2007 22:07

yep...either common or a boxer

Carmenere · 07/03/2007 22:09

Why on earth would you want to advertise the fact that you shop in next???

ImaWurzel · 07/03/2007 22:09

Is next bad then?
It's better than New Look.

Carmenere · 07/03/2007 22:10

And by that I mean you pay them for the clothes, they should pay you for the advertising.

twinsetandpearls · 07/03/2007 22:10

Exactly, I 'd of thought that the fact that you are dressed in incredibly dull clothes would give it away.

MrsBadger · 07/03/2007 22:11

Actually I think New Look's better than Next - at least it's cheap and catwalk-led rather than staid and overpriced.
Still wouldn't wear anything branded from there though.

ImaWurzel · 07/03/2007 22:15

I don't like any of the clothes around at the moment.
Maybe i should rob a bank and make a shopping date with one of you lot.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 07/03/2007 22:19

eh? i shop at h&m mostly. el cheapo! lol

JillyCooper · 07/03/2007 22:20

Terribly common I'm afraid !
