Is it too early for a spring clothes thread?

I know it is. There's snow forecast this afternoon. BUT it's been Christmas, I've been skiing and I'm bored of winter now. I've had enough of all my jumpers. I'm looking forward to 7/8 trousers, shoes that show my feet and jackets. Anyone got their eye on anything? Anything to look out for?

I was in the big M and S at Southampton Hedge End yesterday with OH buying a suit for a wedding and browsed the early Spring stuff. Thought I saw a dress I liked but then saw an old granny looking at it. I decided I wasn't going to wear anything an old granny would buy and then remembered I am 60 and a granny. Oh dear.
As I added on another thread I am forever having problems buying sandals for spring/summer that look OK with dresses as I have horrid bunions (too scared to have the op) I'm only 5'2" so trainers and dresses look terrible on me. Might have to give up on sandals and just wear shoes with bare legs and a dress. Any ideas gratefully received.

Floisme · 17/02/2017 09:40

I'm 60 too and I'd love to be a granny Smile

(Don't mean it really - he's still only at uni.)
Anyway sandals... unless we get an extreme heatwave, I'm not bothering this year. I just don't think it's worth the hassle for the amount of wear they get.

I tried on this yesterday, but ds2 , aged 6, pointed out that I am not a teenager Blush Grin

So my hunt for a jacket continues.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 17/02/2017 09:50

Floisme have you seen the Uniqlo U preview, they may have some trousers that may fit the bill.

Otherwise I am fully in support of your Toast choice, I bought a pair of indigo slouchy trousers from them last August and never regretted paying the full price for them. I wear them a lot, and they make me feel cool and they seem to be wearing out in a really nice way (i.e. not looking scruffy just nicely worn).

Floisme · 17/02/2017 09:55

Much as they may like to think otherwise, teenagers did not invent oversize denim jackets. It's nice.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 17/02/2017 09:55

YouWereRight that's a classic jacket! I think you should definitely reconsider it.

(My DS - aged 2 - has once noticed my new black dress and said "I don't like it and daddy won't like it". Even though I have a super non-judgemental DP my DS was right that he wouldn't like this particular outfit. Reader, I kept it).

YouWereRight · 17/02/2017 10:04

I'm still thinking about it, or perhaps an embroidered denim jacket, or a less oversized one.

Ds2 is very into fashion, and I was wearing ankle grazer jeans and a check shirt, looking quite 90's, so I fear he may be right.

Floisme · 17/02/2017 10:04

Thanks JonSnow there may indeed! Do you know when it goes on sale? can't see anything about it on the main site.

And thanks for the Toast heads up too - that's good to know.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 17/02/2017 10:43

Uniqlo U is on for 3 March (I have a reminder in my diary, in love with so many things). I have been able to see individual items in more detail on the US site, as they have gone on sale there already.

Floisme · 17/02/2017 11:36

Thanks so much Jon Cake Some definite possibilities there, especially the low waisted tapered ones (if they're not cut too low). They look promisingly mannish - and cotton too!

I shall be staying up till midnight on 2nd - what's the betting it crashes!

taybert · 17/02/2017 17:09

Bloody teens eh? It's a denim jacket!

I want cos trousers. I'm 5'3. They'll keep my toes warm won't they? Sad

I've just bought some tapered denim trousers from Toast - ruinously expensive at full price but lovely material and made well and seriously flattering. Toast has opened a shop not that far from me and I saw quite a number of things I really liked. Obviously I'm going to be staying out of there from now on until funds permit.

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 17/02/2017 20:38

Teenagers most certainly don't own denim jackets. I prefer a more fitted one myself, but am v partial to them.

Would like to see Flo's vintage coat; is it back from the cleaner yet?

I bought trousers at the back end of last summer for the flowing relaxed 70s vibe after looking and not finding what I wanted all summer; the shop had stored them for a few years, so just one, pair, in thin navy cotton poplin, slightly twisted. Off to a hot country next week so stopped into a favourite shop where the owner showed me what she's bought for this summer's hot weather (not on display yet). I got navy, coral and olive casual tops in linen/cotton mixes. That is my summer wardrobe sorted, with existing stuff, obviously. Plus cheap white trainers. Job done. No significant spends till July sales.

Floisme · 17/02/2017 23:37

Not till next week Sock - I pay a bit more for them to send it away when it's old. I'll see if I can google something like it.

Floisme · 18/02/2017 09:51

Sock a lot of photos are poor quality so this is the best I can find. It's not quite it - mine is dark blue, not black and the collar's not as dramatic but the overall shape and the sleeves are right. It has a union label.

I really like it with jeans - I'd been bored stiff with skinnies but this will give them a new lease of life. (It won't work so well with Toast wideleg crops, sadly.) I'm tempted to add elbow length gloves but that will probably be a step too fancy dress!

Oooh, very lovely. Predict a triumph, Flo.
