Mascara on lower lashes

Do you think mascara on the lower lashes is aging?
I'm 45 and luckily still have quite thick and long lashes that I apply mascara to both upper and lower lashes but under my eyes the skin is starting to get wrinkly.
I was reading that mascara on the lower lashes can be quite aging.
What do you think?

Never heard of no mascara on lower lashes before I came on here. Strange.
I agree with others that say it's unbalanced looking and weird. Made-up to the hilt upper eye, naked lower eye = totally weird.

HolgerDanske · 15/01/2017 14:51

It depends on one's colouring as well - my lower lashes are already defined as my lashes are brown. Obviously if your lashes are quite light (like the woman in the last set of photos) then you might need to define them. Notice though that there isn't shitloads of mascara and her lashes don't look like spider legs... subtlety is important, imo.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/01/2017 15:13

I use the same tint posted above - but the blue/black shade. I am pretty dark anyway but it just gives me more definition. I rarely wear mascara on the bottom, but if I do I use the Clinique bottom lash one. I have a friend who has very striking strawberry blonde hair and she looks odd with no lower lash mascara as her lashes are very, very pale - whereas if you're dark then I think it looks fine.

But of a mixed bag of replies!
Not had any makeup on all weekend but will have a look tomorrow at no lower lash mascara when I'm getting ready for work, got a feeling though it might look weird as my upper lashes are really long.
I'll probably continue applying mascara to lower lashes but with a really light touch.

I read somewhere that it opens the eye up if you do top lashes only, so that's what I've been doing for the last 30+ years.

I think I look odd now if I put mascara on the lower lashes, like a doll, but that's because I'm not used to it.

AmethystMoon · 15/01/2017 16:37

I also use the Clinique bottom lash mascara. Used it for years. Gives just the right coverage, which I can't do properly with normal mascara. I know it's only the wand not the product but it would be a faff to clean a mascara brush every day, so I'm a repeat buyer. Just discovered it comes in brown too, so my new one will be even better as I suit brown mascara better than black.

BusterGonad · 15/01/2017 17:32

I like the doll look! Grin

mistermagpie · 15/01/2017 19:19

I like the doll look too! It is a case of what you're used to seeing on your face though. I have always used liner and mascara under my eyes so if I don't then I feel like I look really weird. But if I had never used those things then I would probably think I looked weird with them on.

TinySalmon · 15/01/2017 19:25

I always wear mascara on lower lashes. Always have, always will!

Don't think I look old? Here is a cropped picture of my eye (without revealing my whole face/identity)!

It looks very odd if I wear it on my bottom lashes, a bit Twiggy circa 1960. I wear full on top liner with about 3 coats of mascara on top lashes though.

Motherfuckers · 15/01/2017 19:36

Are you 45 tiny?

TinySalmon · 15/01/2017 19:41

29

Motherfuckers · 15/01/2017 19:43

Not many 29 year olds worry about things looking ageing!

TinySalmon · 15/01/2017 19:55

I do Grin

woodhill · 15/01/2017 19:57

I didn't use to but have started again, just a light touch.

mistermagpie · 15/01/2017 20:12

But doesn't it look a bit unbalanced to have full liner and three coats of mascara on top and nothing on the bottom?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/01/2017 20:27

Heavy liner on top is meant to be an unbalanced look. Looks really odd with mascara on bottom lashes on me.

dementedma · 15/01/2017 20:38

What about liner? I just can't seem to do the bloody stuff and when on upper and lower lids it makes my eyes look crap. Tips please?

notMarlene · 15/01/2017 22:52

There is a light touch of mascara on the lower lashes there though Diazepam. It does look exactly the right sort of unbalanced, I'm going to have to try it.

FreshStartIn2017 · 15/01/2017 23:17

Tinysalmon your eye is beautiful (so I'm guessing the other one is too!) and the mascara looks great. Id have guessed about 23-25 years old, FYI Wink

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/01/2017 23:56

My lashes are dark, perhaps that's why it looks ok.

notMarlene · 16/01/2017 20:39

Mine used to be dark but apparently they're lighter now even though I'm still not going grey Confused

Tried my normal top lash mascara on the lower lashes this morning and it was dreadful. Awful. It's some sort of thickening and lengthening stuff which I should have known wouldn't be right.
A light, light touch of whateverbrand it is Telescopic waterproof stuff just at the base of the lashes worked really well though. I'm pleasantly surprised. Don't think it'll be trying liner under though, I like my 'unbalanced', heavy top liner.

Thanks OP Wine

justanotheryoungmother · 16/01/2017 21:09

I always feel incomplete if I don't put it in the bottom lashes as well, so I always put it on, despite having dark eyelashes Smile
