I've just sneaked at my Christmas Present & he's got me the wrong colour!

It's very expensive, hes bought it online, should I confess now and hopefully get the right colour?

Or do I act surprised Christmas Day and suck it up?

It's not an awful colour, in fact it's very similar, however he's chosen a cooler tone and I'd have loved the warmer tone.

It's something I've lusted after for ages and I never get a present he buys without my input so I'm very proud of him.

I need to suck it up don't I?

Yeah I think you do. He's probably really pleased with his choice so best not to ruin that for him. Maybe it's good you found it though as now you won't look slightly disappointed at the colour when you open it!

Elland · 22/11/2016 16:47

For his sake I would suck it up providing you still like it in the other colour, if not I would wait until he gives it to you at Christmas and just hope he says he thinks it's the right colour but you can exchange if it isn't right!

TheMerryWidow1 · 22/11/2016 16:54

you can't spoil his surprise!!! promise you he'll never to do it again if you do. Wait and hope he says you can change the colour when you get it.

Blossomdeary · 22/11/2016 16:55

That'll teach you to sneak! Grin

Floisme · 22/11/2016 17:02

It's like Sex and the City, when Carrie took a sneaky look at Aidan's ring and didn't like it. Have you got a friend like Samantha who can take him in hand??

More seriously, you know your husband and we don't but..... if he's put a lot of thought into it and he wants it to be a surprise then I'm struggling to think of a way out. Hopefully, like Elland says, he'll ask if it's the right colour when he gives it to you.

mixedpeel · 22/11/2016 17:05

yep, this is a time to suck it up.

Also, prepare to be pleasantly surprised by how whatever it is looks when you're wearing it. He might be onto something!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 22/11/2016 17:05

Aw, I don't think there's a nice way you can tell him - you're not only telling him that he's picked the wrong one but that you've ruined his surprise!

I'd wait and try and get used to the new colour, if it's a really little change. Thankfully he hasn't got you a colour that you hate! Then if he does ask, you can choose whether to confess? Returns periods round Christmas tend to be pretty good at least.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 22/11/2016 17:06

Can you drop a few hints, e.g. "I'd be so happy if I received that warm toned (handbag*) for Christmas" ?

If not, hopefully you can return it after you've gushed your thanks on Christmas day.

HollowTalk · 22/11/2016 17:06

Do you have separate bank accounts? You could buy another and return his, putting yours in the same place Grin

OhGiveOver · 22/11/2016 17:12

Love Hollows idea, except I just looked on the website and the warm tones one is out of stock anyway! Typical! He wouldn't even realise there's a difference, they're both shades of nude.

Guess it's time to suck it up and act surprised 😇

OP posts:
ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 22/11/2016 17:19

I suppose there is an outside chance it isn't for you?

Yours is the acid green one at the back of the wardrobe Grin.

HollowTalk · 22/11/2016 17:20

That's what I meant - he wouldn't notice the difference at the time! Can you find out when it's in stock? Tell them to hurry up and hide the wrapping paper!

Floisme · 22/11/2016 17:22

If the colour's very similar and they do get it in again would he notice if you discreetly change it after Christmas?

sofato5miles · 22/11/2016 17:27

Both shades of nude? I think you suck it up.

BrollyXmas · 22/11/2016 17:43

I was going to say you should get the one you want and swap them over, but just saw they're out of stock. Maybe after Christmas you'll be able to make the swap instead?

HappyGirlNow · 22/11/2016 18:03

Ooh what is it OP? I bet on LV scarf.. Grin Guess you probably shouldn't tell...

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 22/11/2016 18:23

Is it a life size cardboard cut out of a nude Simon Cowell?

Revealall · 22/11/2016 18:29

I know what you mean especially if it's an expensive " would never buy it for myself " present. It's grating when it's not right and you know there's nothing you can do.
If the warmer tone becomes available I'd make sure he knew. I wouldn't ever confess to peaking or not liking it though.

anotherdayanothersquabble · 22/11/2016 18:29

Is it so close that he won't notice if you get the other one and then return the one he bought? Though out of stock issue might scupper that plus timing of returns could also be problematic. Unless you think you can get away with him not finding out, I would just be very grateful he got you something you wanted. (Maybe he tried to get the other one and failed... )

OhGiveOver · 22/11/2016 21:10

Simon Cowell Grin

I can't actually find the one he's bought at all on the website Confused according to his bank statement he purchased it about 3 weeks ago. So confused, the box is very clear where it's from though, and the amount on his bank statement matches the amount for the same item on the website but obv different colours.

It's a Givenchy Handbag, the one I'd listed after was a particular shade in Harrods and must've been over a year ago I think, it was part of The Runway Collection.

The one he's bought is very Stone coloured nude, whereas the other was almost Blush Nude.

Sounds pathetic but I'm very much into warmer tones, my whole wardrobe is.

I can't even find the runway collection one at all now after searching.

Guess I'll have to be happy with what I have got Grin

Yes like Reveal said, it's something I'd never have bought myself.

Maybe I should hint for the Tan Shade one and hopefully he'll allow me to replace it. Tan is more in my colour spectrum than Stone.

I feel so spoilt but I just want to love it and get my use out of it.

burnishedsilver · 22/11/2016 21:15

I bet if you exchange it after Christmas he won't even notice. If you know where he bought it ring them and ask what the options are.

RandomDent · 22/11/2016 21:22

OP is this you? :o

OhGiveOver · 22/11/2016 21:35

Random - totally me 😳 In all fairness my job is artistic and I deal with Shades & Tones a lot, especially on myself & matching others with the right shades. So I am a little obsessed, and it will bother me if it has a grey undertone instead of pink Blush

MatildaTheCat · 22/11/2016 21:58

This reminds me of someone I met who found her Christmas present hidden away. She took it back, changed it for something else and put it back where she'd found it. Her husband was a bit puzzled when he went to wrap it up but thought he'd just misrembered! I reckon that unless your dh is also a shade and tone freak he'd never notice at all.

Shame it's out of stock.

Exchange if you won't be happy, mits too expensive to be a bit disappointed with.

Aderyn2016 · 22/11/2016 22:01

Maybe the one you saw was exclusive to Harrods which is why you can't see it on the website. Or if it was a year ago, maybe it is a discontinued colour and he bought you the only one now available.
