Hatty, I know, seems to be more likely to cause diplomatic rift (not because of Farage, just because one doesn't usurp HMG like that) than being a bloody fascist. You couldn't make it up. Can we have the real world back now please? I promise to be good.

Herbs, fantastic on the school. I think charging is really hard when prices usually unpublished. Do you know exactly what they want? Is it flat rate one off, or more of a license so per usage or class?

hattymattie · 22/11/2016 17:32

I think the US needs a successful version if the Gunpowder Plot.

MM - so sorry you are feeling unwell again.

motherinferior · 22/11/2016 18:06

I have just scrutinised my accountant's report. My income has dropped by a third. ShockSad

herbaceous · 22/11/2016 18:28

I am going out tonight! To a restaurant recently rave reviewed, so we can't get a table until 8.45. Must resist urge to get smashed, as that doesn't go well with teaching first thing in the morning...

I don't know what to wear. I have a wardrobe full of clothes, though admittedly only about 15% actually fits me in my current Jabba the Hut incarnation. Something with a very forgiving waist is probably top priority...

herbaceous · 22/11/2016 18:34

I have never earned less than I do now, even in 1990 when I started work on £10K a year.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 22/11/2016 18:39

Hiya All
Rushing in to mark a place on new Christmassy thread!
Ta for the organising BTM. Excited already.
Herbs, fair good news re grammar course - make sure they can't just pay you once then copy all your materials etc and do it themselves - copyright? Can't you phone up a couple online places advertising similar nd pose as interested punter re prices?
Quite interested to go and look at depressing thread - we may all have our woes and problems but we're not all dried up and giving up on here are we??
Auriga, Crem might be able to help you re Uni courses ? (but she's right poorly by the sound of it atm.
Laters. X

bigTillyMint · 22/11/2016 19:01

Herbs, hope you have a luffly time tonight - is it a birthday celebration?

Hatty, do we get to see photos?

Here it has been a bit shit this afternoon. But DH has taken DS to training and DD has her 2 lovely old BFF's here and they are making risotto Smile

Collymollypuff · 22/11/2016 19:07

Glad your first counselling session went well, BTM. At least you've got that. I'm sure it'll be a long haul, but we're in it with you. Thanks

Auriga, dd's BFF got into York to do Politics, through Clearing. Dd says it's excellent, but that's all I know so far. She was considered to have been incredibly lucky to get the place. I am so glad that dd and her mates are political. Mind you, the Trump election has made everyone wake up and smell the coffee, imo. I am worried about Marine le Pen in France.

Collymollypuff · 22/11/2016 19:10

Distraught might be more accurate re France.

motherinferior · 22/11/2016 19:13

I am EFFING TERRIFIED re France.

motherinferior · 22/11/2016 19:14

DD1 is on for A Level politics. Also history. And drama.Grin

wordassociationfootball · 22/11/2016 19:26

Enjoy your meal Herbs. BTW my work do outfit only mentioned as I made my peace with not bothering to look for a dress and felt immediately excellent about it.

BTM - yay to counsellor.

I was submerged in Hello at Mum's hairdressers, so just took the hearing aids I was handed and sat with them in my loosely closed palm to minimise... the waxiness. Wasn't sure what else to do with them.

MontserratCaballe · 22/11/2016 19:26

Have fun tonight, Herbs. I would try to find out how much others are charging but in default I would think high rather than low. You need to think about cost of materials, prep time etc etc as well as time in front of punters. I think the tendency is to undersell oneself but that should be resisted. I would also think about upping my rate if they were buying it to deliver themselves after the first go, rather than have you back for repeats. Very happy to discuss my rates (as set by my institution rather than me) for private teaching. Remember that you are worth it.

Cream, you poor love, that sounds most unpleasant. Can you sleep it off with the aid of much medicine? def claim back how, even if in January.

MI, aaargh for lack of earnings. Has new well paid gig come off?

BTM, sorry today bad. Are you still off work? I do hope so. Take it easy and offload wherever you can.

MM, very sorry for continued illness. Wishing you better.

Hello Ggg, looking forward to seeing you on Saturday night. And other Crepeys, match.

I see from FB that MrsS has rallied. Hurray! Wine

Feel a bit doom and gloom today without knowing why. Busy as anything after 2 weeks away from coal face. After a lovely report yesterday (hurray!) Dd1 seems to have got into trouble today for dossing in DT (eh?). The word lazy was mentioned. Oops. I need to get to bottom of it but finding it hard to be arsed.

X posts with lots. Marine le Pen - deeply scary. But in a way not altogether surprising, very sadly, given recent worldwide events.

Cremolafoam · 22/11/2016 19:42

My advice re Politics degree is to scrutinise the course content. It could be weighted towards something like Conflict Resolution, or be more historical in nature.PICK A COURSE That will interest her is vital, otherwise she'll be spending hours writing about uKip for three years.
Top of the heap is es currently are St. Andrews, Oxford Durham and LSE.
Others with a really good reputation include
Lancaster , Edinburgh. Glasgow ,( where she decided to go)
UCL Exeter and Bath and Warwick.
Dd got unconditional offers from: QUB,Salford and UEA,but couldn't imagine living in any of those so kept them til the last minute.

Many apols for large type etc, but I am sick. Temp still high and am woozy.

Cremolafoam · 22/11/2016 19:45

FlowersFlowersmucho sympathy Auriga.ignore previous post until better..
Xx Crem

Collymollypuff · 22/11/2016 19:55

So many Crepeys are sick! Thanks to you all, poor you. We could fill a hospital. I OTOH am largely over my cold and hugely looking forward to a mini MU with ishouldcocoa. Smile Other Crepeys may have thought that happened long ago, but no, we have to fit people into our packed diaries where we can. Wink

Re the maxi MU - where is the usual place for D&S? Is it the bookshop, or...?

Collymollypuff · 22/11/2016 19:56

I would so love to go through two years of sixth form studying politics, history and drama, MI.

ReggaeShark · 22/11/2016 20:01

First time I've ventured on one of these threads. Think you must be my people, if crepey means what I think it does.

hattymattie · 22/11/2016 20:24

Colly - so would I - I think the young dont appreciate what they have at the time. (God I sound like my mother).

Auriga and Crem get well soon.

Have faith in the French people - I'm still hopeful - Centre Left (Macron) or Centre Right (Juppe) would do me at the moment.

Will try to get a photo of gingerbread houses BTM - I took one but it was blurred (useless).

Hello Reggaeshark.

bigTillyMint · 22/11/2016 20:38

Love the name ReggaeShark Grin

Yes Molly usual bookshop for D&S's from 5. I can't wait - all this stress is making me extra thirsty!

Sorry for all the ill people Flowers

Herbs is obviously worth £££. However, schools don't necessarily have £££ to spendSad Hopefully you can get as much as poss Herbs, with them printing off their own resources!

Lalsy · 22/11/2016 21:02

Yep, anyone sensible, honest and open to reason, in charge anywhere, would be fine by me. We can sort out the details later.

Lalsy · 22/11/2016 21:03

And hello ReggaeShark!

hattymattie · 22/11/2016 21:44

Lalsy - my thoughts exactly.
