Just looking for some inspiration really as I know a lot of you like a challenge!

Its a formal but not posh do.
Don't want to wear a hat.
Am size 10 and 5'6"

Dd will be almost 10. She's tall and slim. Not girly girly, more into combats and T-shirts but will wear a skirt. Definitely no fru-fru

The wedding is in June. Am really excited as I didn't think any more of my friends were going to bother with marriage!

Help please!

what about Boden and Mini Boden (depending on your budget). Their spring summer collection have some really pretty, flirty dresses and Mini Boden have some lovely girly stuff/skirts & tops/dresses for girls.

JackieNo · 09/02/2007 22:16

Monsoon have some nice skirts, and not all too frilly - would this go down ok, or is it still too girly? It comes in pink too, but I suspect that might be too much. I also quite like the Lara stripe and the blossom denim one

JackieNo · 09/02/2007 22:18

Agree with Luciemule, too - Boden have some nice stuff - I like this skirt .

Thanks for those suggestions.
Dd not keen on the Monsoon ones but loves the Boden ones (wouldn't have thought of looking there, thought it would be very very girly floral)

Now what about me?!
I really have no idea as I don't ever get really dressed up. Shoes will be a big problem as I just wear Birkenstocks all summer. Am really looking forward to it.

What colours do you like Posey?

MrsBadger · 10/02/2007 19:56

My staples for weddings are trouser suits - brown velvety for winter weddings and stone/cream linen for summer.
They're comfy and look smart and are easy to dress up, but are v useful for other occasions with work shoes, blouse etc.
Also mean you don't need to do anything scary like fake-tan your legs .

MrsBadger · 10/02/2007 20:00

Next have a few trous suits this summer but the colours def won't suit everyone!

And what shops do you normally like? I'm liking Principles and M & S Limited Collection lately but if you're a Topshop girl my suggestions will be wayyyyyyyy out!

JackieNo · 10/02/2007 21:34

Yes - Principles have a couple of linen trouser suits - in ivory or in chocolate, then you could wear a brighter top underneath.

MrsBadger · 10/02/2007 21:38

maybe a suit in a bold colour then, and patterend top underneath?

Zara is good for this kind of thing if you're near one, esp as you're slim (though the trousers will need taking up)

Actually Per Una have a rather cool hot-pink linen suit but it looks absolutely abominable on the website - jacket and trews - also an equally poorly photographed toffee one - trous , jacket

Posey · 10/02/2007 22:19

Thanks again for taking the time to find these links for me. Sorry I've been a wee bit distracted this evening (trying to sort out Paris for dh's 40th!) so not doing too well in the conversation front.
Shops I normally shop in are Hennes, Next, Per Una, TKMaxx.
Haven't been in Principles for years and never been in a zara (really poor for a Londoner, but find since having kids I just can't be bothered traipsing around for clothes!)
I really appreciate all the suggestions though so carry on!

if you are in london why not go to oxford street topshop and go down in the boutique-retro bit, they have loads to choose from and your daughter would approve.
You will be more funky than conventional though.

auntymandy · 11/02/2007 07:20

Whilst you are all helping posey will you look for something for me too!!
I am going to a wedding in March and expecting a baby end of June!!!
What do I wear!!

Now I will hunt for a little girls dress for Posey's DD....

DimpledThighs · 11/02/2007 07:59

auntymandy - I had a similar wedding scenario when pregnant with dd. I had this long stretchy black skirt that fitted me at least and then I bought a nice red top and some red accessories to go with it. I didn't want to bother getting anything new as I knew I wouldn't use it again so I looked around at what I had found something I could dress up.

Posey's wedding is in June, cod - too hot for dress+coat imo. Like that Laura Ashley dress though - it's like the striped ones Monsoon had last year and discontinued (grr).

AuntyMandy, depending on size of bump you may get into a non-maternity knitted or bias-cut dress. I asked a similar q a little while ago and got some good ideas - Anniemac put me on the track of an Ebay seller making rather good maternity dresses here and lissielou suggested a fabulous US site here .
Also check out the regular expensive-mat-wear places - Isabella Oliver , Formes Seraphine , Push , HomeMummy , Picchu etc as a lot of them are selling off the 'wintery' wrap dresses which would be perfect for a March wedding.

janeite · 11/02/2007 16:35

Ooh I like that laura Ashley dress.

Posey - This would be lovely with a chocolate trouser suit, as Mrs Badger suggested - and it might suit your liking of quite bold colours and patterns? It's gorgeous in real life but sadly my chest just ruins the line of it.

I really like that Laura Ashley dress. May just take a trip down Oxford Street in half term and have a look and pop into Top Shop too (will I look too old?!)

Janeite - was there supposed to be a link there?
