I think that's lovely. I have a denim one (must be a secret member of Dexy's then!) which I'm very happy with. I'm 37, size 12. Would definitely wear your grey cord one

I was on the train on Saturday and sat opposite a woman who I would guess was well into her 70s. She was wearing a short denim shirt dress, over the knee heeled tan suede boots, bare legs, a big fluffy white gilet and had bright pink acrylic nails and lipstick. She looked wonderful. She was without doubt 'too old' for every single thing she was wearing, but she still looked terrific. So take 'the rules' with a pinch of salt I say.....

I don't understand why this same question keeps coming up - if they are only for children, why are they in all the adult shops? I wear mine with blouses and opaque tights/flat Chelsea boots, and have had nothing but compliments. I am firmly of the "if you like it, wear it" school.

You ARE clearly in the minority. I think they look cute on adults. I have liked them for years and am currently wearing a denim one. Its not a mini but a just above the knee one and I love it. I am 48.

If it was a question of who wore it better, personally I'd vote for the little girl.

I think it's fine to say an item if clothing isn't for you, or that you wouldn't wear it, but saying something is ridiculous or childlike is just plain rude, especially if it's something you know others like.

Remember they're only in the shops because retailers think they will sell. They're not something that is there regularly (ditto any sort of pinafores or dungarees) because people keep buying them. They appear at long intervals - like all items that need a whole new generation that has not experienced them before - because they just don't sell without 'novelty appeal'

They'll be flash in the pan this time as well. Because they look dreadful if you have a bust.

Might be useful for bedroom wear though, for naughty schoolgirl dress-up.

I prefer the pinafore dresses that don't have dungaree straps, can't find a good example, but they have a bit of a 60s vibe. A bit like this one...
