How old is too old for a dungaree dress?

And indeed how unthin?

Dress like this one - not denim, I don't want to look like a refugee from the Come On Eileen video. m.newlook.com/shop/womens/dresses/dark-grey-cord-pinafore-dress_379686903?pProduct=379686957

I'm 43, size 14.

Any age can wear one. It's not about your age but how you wear it imo. I'm 41 and I'd wear that with bright tights, doc boots and a fair isle cardi.

Wear what you like, Ive massive 38 40 jk boobs and wear dungarees and dungarees dresses.

Why shouldnt I?

I think style takes a lot and you either have it or you dont and something either suits you or it doesnt.

But dont follow rules and definitely not ones to do with age.

How old is too old? Dead.

My 12 year old dd tried one on, I mistakenly said it looked cute and didn't she used have one a bit like that when she went to pre school, she scowled at me and put it back. Its a minefield shopping with preteens.

Am 39 now and will definitely be wearing the indigo stretchy denim and the wine cord ones I bought last year again this year. Plus that grey one if I can find it!

" But if you want to comment on ridiculous clothing for an adult then let's at least be consistent "

Why? Genuine question. Because I really don't see why my taste needs to conform to someone else's ideas.

Each person should be free to comment on any garment, adornment or grooming procedure in the way they want to, and without having to pass a consistency test.

It does mean that there will be negative comments as well as positive ones. But if people want to know what others think, then that's part of the deal.

It was the repeated use of 'ridiculous' that I was questioning. It's one thing to say you don't like something but if we're going to dismiss a fashion item on the grounds that it's ridiculous then we may as well shut S&B down. Surely all fashion is innately ridiculous? As far as I'm concerned, that's what makes it so enjoyable.

This thread is interesting to me, as I've been asking myself the same question. I'm 39 and wondered if I would look a bit kooky/Honey from Eastenders. I like that grey one, and I think I would get it. I saw a mustard one in Next and perhaps that would be a bit bright.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 19/10/2016 14:41

I'm with the posters who say that once you're in double figures, a pinafore (because that's what we're talking about here) looks more than ridiculous. In the same way that anyone not at least 5ft 10 and a size 0 looks like Mrs Pepperpot in a maxi dress.

MN never ceases to amaze though, people who will literally have their sides splitting over a perfectly normal pair of boots/haircut would think dressing as a 4 yr old is normal.

Hey ho, takes all sorts.

once you're in double figures, a pinafore ... looks more than ridiculous

Have to disagree. Type how to wear a pinafore dress into Google images and take a look. It'll throw up images from various blogs, Pinterest. Yes, it's mainly young, slim women (because that's what fashion uses to illustrate clothes) but not all the styles are ridiculous. Some can be worn at any age.

Lottapianos · 19/10/2016 15:37

TheLater, I have to agree with you about maxi dresses. Some women wear them to cover up lumps and bumps - they really really don't

confusedlilly · 19/10/2016 15:40

I have just brought the one you attached. Can't wait to wear it.

miaowmix · 19/10/2016 15:41

I love them, they can look abslutely gorgeous and chic on adults. Loads of the very cool women at my work wear them.
I wouldn't but only because I have gigantic tits!
My ten year old daughter thinks they're not cool enough for her though ;)
