So, BTM, might your ds be available to marry dd? Grin

Blackduck · 23/09/2016 21:02

They was just being nice BTM (joke)

MrsW, is librarianship too obvious a suggestion? Maybe in a university library?

hattymattie · 23/09/2016 21:35

Mrs W -many law firms have Christmas vacation schemes which could lead to training contracts but she needs to apply about now.

Abandon drudgery Rose and you don't look that old to me.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 23/09/2016 21:56

Good luck for exam results Hatty - how did the test go do you think?
Much sympathy re waving both your dds off to University .

Go for it Herbs. Really. You can always turn it down / negotiate t and cs when they offer it to you! It really won't be THAT long until ds is off to secondary school and much more independent and wanting your own stuff to do. Good luck lovely!

Belated brilliant news for now re dd Stropps. Even if it's a temporary rather than permanent state of affairs you should appreciate it while it's here! Loving your rather stern fb photo. It should have a 'Don't mess with me' caption (in a good way).

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/09/2016 21:57

Mrs W - civil service fast stream?

OP posts:
hattymattie · 23/09/2016 22:07

GGG - French went OK I think although having to speak even for three minutes on a topic is nerve racking. I haven't done anything like that for 30 years.

Mrs S - DD looked at civil service but the pay is so low you can't really afford to live in London unless your parents are based there.

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/09/2016 22:38

Starting pay is £25-£27K. I don't think that's too bad for a first job for someone straight out of university.

WAF, I meant to say before I am sorry you are living with such worry.

MrsW, good question and my dd will be in a similar boat in a year or two. In WW1, classicists and linguists developed the early codebreaking systems [unhelpful but of mild historical interest].

Lalsy · 23/09/2016 23:21

Gulpetty gulp on all uni departures - good luck all round. I just said to dh "What will it be like this time next year if ds has gone". He seems to be looking forward to reclaiming the living room Confused.

addle · 24/09/2016 01:35

Lalsy, he has a point

Collymollypuff · 24/09/2016 01:42

I'm looking forward to reclaiming most rooms in the house and all my kitchen cupboards. She has asked me to look after her cacti. I said I would water them with my tears. Grin Happily she didn't take that to mean I'd hardly be crying, them being cacti and all.

Of course I can't sleep.

Auriga · 24/09/2016 07:18

Waving to you all from the Netherlands, where I've been working. Good luck with job, Herbs. Courage to all those delivering DC to universities. DNiece says she's already had a little anticipatory weep about her DS going (he's nine months old) Grin

Welcome Blue. I am Considerably Crepier & less S&B than the others but we find things we have in common.

Homesick now, hoping to make it in time to see DCat, who is in a decline. This is an astonishingly lovely place, must come back for a holiday.

Auriga · 24/09/2016 07:20

And WAF Flowers

WAF much strength.

Good luck to everyone doing the Uni drop today.

Dp is somewhere over Europe on his way to Belgrade via Frankfurt - warned him to RUN between gates as he is on a tight transfer.

I am feeling rough as rough can be and am still in bed and may stay here for the duration.....

MrsSchadenfreude · 24/09/2016 08:04

BD - transfer is an utter bitch at Frankfurt, particularly if they randomly decide you need to go through security again and have everything scanned. I had to run to catch my flight to Tallinn, got on the plane, they shut the doors and were reversing off the stand before I had even got to my seat and sat down. I love Belgrade - one of my favourite cities. Smile

DD1 has gone to Warwick open day today, with a friend.

Good luck to everyone whose baby pigeons are flying the coop today! I am mostly doing chores today - Things That Need To Be Done Before The Holiday.

BDFlowers.

Rudy - have a good trip.

Molly - hope you got some sleep.

Auriga - I'd like to go to Amsterdam as the DC's all went on school trips to see Anne Franck's place and DH went in his student days.

Here, I'm "reclaiming rooms" starting with washing sheets. Then am going to gym with my lovely neighbour.

Collymollypuff · 24/09/2016 08:23

Thanks for all the good wishes, I am up and ready to roll. Lol at cactus, Rudy. "Reclaiming rooms", Hatty - yay!

Sorry you're feeling rough, BD, and hope things are better for you, WAF. Auriga, I love the Netherlands. Smile

motherinferior · 24/09/2016 08:30

I am waiting to dosh out tea and coffee to prospective parents at the school. DD1 is in full Prefect Drag. I am already thinking of how much I will miss her when she goes don't even think about my baybee.

Sorry for everyone having a grim time. I am glumly anticipating earning less than a starting salary civil servant this year.Sad and am having horrible sleep problems.

But, but, but - and Molly will particularly appreciate this - I realised during my nocturnal waking that I am just about finally over my ex. It has taken around twenty (20, xx) years but I've done it. And you lot are probably the only person to whom I can say this. GrinGrinGrin

Dreamqueen · 24/09/2016 08:43

the job offer sounds very exciting Herbs but a big step.

Hope evryone sending Dc off to uni has a good weekend. My Ds is 30 next month & left home over 10 years ago. Our relationship has improved over this time. It's always been ok but now he phones etc out of wanting to rather than feeling obliged to. If that makes sense? He lives quite far away so the times I see him are very special.

Bluebell My DS and DIL got a dog 3 years ago as a 'test' run before babies!!!!!!! Their plan is next GC once they're both 30!

Stropperella · 24/09/2016 09:28

Our entire household income is usually the same as a starting salary for a civil servant. Although we should do better this year, thanks to me having the reasonably regular teaching gig. I am quite good at sums. Smile

bigTillyMint · 24/09/2016 09:36

Flowers for all those dropping PFB's/PSB's, etc to uni.
I am definitely looking forward to reclaiming the house and my sanity next September (if all goes well), but I'm sure I will be weeping when the time comes!

Hatty, Amsterdam is fab - one of my favourite cities and where DD was conceived Smile
