Classy or slutty?

We had a an important customer visit to our office today - one of the female visitors (late 20s, tall and slim) was wearing a tartan mini-skirt, black opaque tights and shiny patent black pumps. I have tracked down the skirt and it was one of these; www.lookastic.co.uk/women/red-plaid-mini-skirt/shop/topshop-tartan-plaid-skirt-red-4-75373?utm_medium=Referral&utm_source=lookastic.com
I commented to my female colleagues after she left that she looked stunning and stylish - but they (all 5 of them) said she looked tarty/slutty and that it was not a suitable business outfit (I have to admit that it would have been a bit hot today - she travelled 3 hours in the car) - but I think it looked good and I'm thinking of getting same skirt/similar outfit.
What do others think - class or tart?

I love this look and it sounds like your client had it nailed with the shoes and jacket. If I were in my late twenties, tall and slim hell yes I'd be rocking that outfit. I think as you get older you do have to consider whether it suits you more than when you were younger but I wouldn't criticise anyone for wearing what they wanted at any age.

Your colleagues sound horrendous for using the words slutty and tarty to describe her. if you are happy and confident wearing it then good for you. some things suit certain body shapes and ages better though that is also down to the individual's sense of style.

oh meant to say i think tartan kilt skirts, opaque tights, black jacket and patent shoes or boots is a classic look Grin

I had a skirt like that, in the early 90s worn with Doc marten shoes, opaque tights and a polo neck, worn to work! No clients, NHS admin job.

Go with what is the norm in your office, and dress for the job you want next, not the job you have.

Looks lovely and no one would have hated an eyelid where I work!

Batted! Not hated

I like it. I wouldn't wear it because I couldn't (thick legs and I need to lose a stone). I wouldn't say it is 'classy' as classy clothes imo are usually plain and quite conservative. But it looks fashionable and edgy and it could look great on the right figure. If you have that figure, then definitely buy it as you are one of the lucky ones :).

I also wouldn't agree that is is inappropriate for an office. I worked in a corporate environment for years and while it wouldn't be appropriate for that environment, there are many industries that rely on being fashionable/trendy where this skirt would be totally appropriate.
