Classy or slutty?

We had a an important customer visit to our office today - one of the female visitors (late 20s, tall and slim) was wearing a tartan mini-skirt, black opaque tights and shiny patent black pumps. I have tracked down the skirt and it was one of these; www.lookastic.co.uk/women/red-plaid-mini-skirt/shop/topshop-tartan-plaid-skirt-red-4-75373?utm_medium=Referral&utm_source=lookastic.com
I commented to my female colleagues after she left that she looked stunning and stylish - but they (all 5 of them) said she looked tarty/slutty and that it was not a suitable business outfit (I have to admit that it would have been a bit hot today - she travelled 3 hours in the car) - but I think it looked good and I'm thinking of getting same skirt/similar outfit.
What do others think - class or tart?

I really like it. It's very on trend with the whole 90's revival. I wouldn't wear it to work though as its too short. It would look fab with thick black tights.

ToffeeForEveryone · 10/08/2016 21:54

Far too short for work, and a horrid tartan.

CleanKingdom · 10/08/2016 21:54

I don't quite see how this would ever been seen as classy, that said i don't necessarily think it's slutty. The problem is, if the don't have the same body shape as the model wearing it I imagine it's very unflattering. But if you want it, you get it for yourself - who cares what others think! Smile

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 10/08/2016 21:55

Well I wouldn't go as far as to say slutty. But it's certainly not classy.
If I did however have to choose a box either slutty or classy. I'd put it in the slutty one

TopazRocks · 10/08/2016 21:56

nah, it's too short for work-place wear. a bit mean to say 'slutty' though.

WeekendAway · 10/08/2016 21:56

I think it could look great on someone very slim with black opaqu tights and biker boots and a chunky sweater, but it's totally wrong for the summer, it's far too short to eve be appropriate for office/professional attire and with the wrong shoes/tights it could look slutty.

PovertyPain · 10/08/2016 21:59

Neither classy or ffs slutty. What a bunch of nasty fuckers.

I think, while not my choice for business attire, it's very cute. morons the days of a skinny body

choccyspread · 10/08/2016 22:01

Your co workers sound pleasant Confused

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 10/08/2016 22:01

Nasty fuckers.!!!!
. No we're not. We were asked our opinion so we gave it.

PovertyPain · 10/08/2016 22:02

Ffs Mourns not morons.

PurpleDaisies · 10/08/2016 22:02

How is it £50? There's no way it looks like it should cost that much.

Way too short for work but I hate the "slutty" description.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 10/08/2016 22:03

This was the fashion 20 years ago & I loved it. I was petite in those days & it looked good. I'd look like a bloody Scottish table lamp in it now though

Your colleagues are bitchy.

PovertyPain · 10/08/2016 22:03

Should have made that clear. I mean the co-workers, not posters.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 10/08/2016 22:03

It's only 'that short' if you're about 8ft tall!

PovertyPain · 10/08/2016 22:05

ook like a bloody Scottish table lamp in it now though

We would make a lovely matching pair. Grin

i8sum314 · 10/08/2016 22:05

I had a skirt like that years ago but it was a kilt, it was a more muted shade of red and it was longer and I still thought it was risky for work.

And I was about 26. And wasn't representing my company. Just behind a desk!

PickAChew · 10/08/2016 22:05

On me, it would be neither. It would just look fucking ridiculous.

Queenbean · 10/08/2016 22:05

The skirt isn't very nice but your and your colleagues attitudes are horrible

Not to mention completely identifiable, what if the woman is reading this thread?

Frankly totally odd "tracking down" the exact skirt to ask if the wearer looked like a slut. Why do women put women down in this way?

EweAreHere · 10/08/2016 22:07

A bit short for work, yes.

Would I wear it? No, although I might have a couple of decades ago. heh But tarty or slutty? No. In fact, it's offensive they think so ... it's shaming women for choosing to wear a short skirt (that is perfectly decent; covers everything it should in public). That has to stop.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 10/08/2016 22:07

I wouldn't wear it, for work or not in work, but I don't hate it.

Personally I think opaque tights in August look very strange regardless of weather.

SpecialStains · 10/08/2016 22:09

I like it, and would wear it. Probably in winter with semi opaque tights, boots and black or cream top. With a long coat.

I would wear it to work, but I don't have a client facing job, and I'm very happy to wear short skirts/dresses. No one has commented to my face!

It's awful and sexist of your female colleagues to describe someone's appearance as tarty or slutty.

Stevefromstevenage · 10/08/2016 22:13

I love it and I think it totally could work in an 'edgy' environment.

I sported many similar skirts in the 1990s when my legs were similarly slim.

Strokethefurrywall · 10/08/2016 22:15

Ahhh AnyFucker, the first thing I thought was "I'd totally wear that with a pair of tights and big biker boots like when I was 14 and had exactly the same skirt which I probably teamed with a Nirvana or Pearl Jam t-shirt".

And then I realised that I'm actually 36, not 14.

RiverTam · 10/08/2016 22:15

Gosh, some of you must work in very conservative places, that wouldn't be too short in my industry (creative). I'm surprised that anyone working in the fashion industry would describe someone wearing that as tarty or slutty.

I like it and the outfit you describe sounds great.

Strokethefurrywall · 10/08/2016 22:16

P.S. I would still wear it though, probably in an attempt to look like Liv Tyler in Empire Records.
