I am VERY pale and the only self-tanner I ever loved was way back in the early 90s. It was by Lancome and called "Esprit de Soleil". It was a moisturiser/self-tanner and looked 100% natural on me.

I have since tried St Tropez, Xen-Tan, Lancome flash bronzer, etc. No luck at all - all too orangey and fake-looking. I have never found anything close to replacing that old product.

Will try Clarins next (I've certainly heard good things about it). If that doesn't work, I'll maybe think about giving up the quest for a tan!

Have you ever tried st moriz? It's about £3 from bodycare or semi chem (can't remember which). I am so pale that I really don't bother doing the fake tan thing but the beautician recommended this to me-it's a mousse and she said it's really easy and doesn't streak. I haven't tried it yet though! I usually just put some rimmel sun shimmer on my legs as it's quick and easy.

fattyfattytoadgirl · 02/07/2016 13:55

Thanks, WeeM - that is one I haven't tried. It would be great if it worked on me as it wouldn't break the bank either. I'll give it a go, nothing to lose!

Ok. Don't bother with the CLARINS drops. It's utterly useless.

I know the Lancôme one, of which you speak. It was so good, I agree. And, it's didn't have a funny smell either. Why do they change formulae/discontinue?

I used to love an Avon face scrub which was so finely grained and gentle. It was quite expensive but really good stuff. Then they discontinued it. I have a CLARINS one now. Nothing like as effective and more costly.

John Frieda Sheer blonde detangler highlighter. Rub a bit in to detangle and emphasise blonde highlights. Can't get it anywhere now in the UK (online seems to be import from the US).

GerdaLovesLili · 02/07/2016 13:59

There was a fizzy Avon face cleanser/wash thing. Then there wasn't and I can't find anything similar :-(

AgentProvocateur · 02/07/2016 14:07

Body shop Japanese face scrub, and Virgin Vie body lotion that smelled of oranges and had an sheen to it Sad

Dowser · 02/07/2016 14:14

Burts bees jasmine décolletage cream. Smelt heavenly all day. About $ 35 in America. Now discontinued

Origins spring fever perfume. Used to bring that back from America too. Now discontinued or replaced with that horrible ginger one.

Miss them so much.

EmmaWoodlouse · 02/07/2016 14:34

Benefit Georgia powder (although I've still got 1 and a half boxes left). Absolutely the right colour for me and people say I look healthy when I wear it. Dandelion would be way too pink for my freckly orangey skin tone.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/07/2016 14:36

I remember that Lancing tanner!

Maybelline 24hr lipstick- they did a lovely nude but then one day changed it and it's now orange!

Fallulah · 02/07/2016 14:36

Tigi Curl Jam. I still mourn its purple, blackberry goodness.

WeDoNotTalktoPennilynLott · 02/07/2016 15:29

Not beauty products but perfume! D&G Sicily, D&G Femne with the bright red top, Moschino Couture... oh, and Natrel Plus Fougere deodorant!

Indecisivejo · 02/07/2016 15:35

lasttimeround · 02/07/2016 17:03

Body shop oatmeal soap.

Misssss · 02/07/2016 18:04

Olay in shower body moisturiser was amazing. I found some in a pound shop in 2012 and bought 28 bottles. It's all gone now and I miss it.

Also a St Ives AHA moisturiser in a tube. It made my skin look radiant. I've never found a replacement and I loved it.

Nanasueathome · 02/07/2016 18:06

Years ago Estée Lauder used to do a hair conditioner
It was the best I have ever used and I stockpiled it when I knew they were going to discontinue
Never found any other conditioner as good

AuldReekieCreakymemory · 02/07/2016 18:11

Gucci Envy perfume....the new 'Envy Me' just doesn't smell as good Sad

fattyfattytoadgirl · 02/07/2016 18:11

I hear all your frustrations!

What I don't understand is how I found a self-tanner from 25 YEARS AGO better than anything on offer now. I'd have thought technology would have meant things were getting better and better. Well, maybe it's my weird skin, I don't know.

I really like the Garnier summer body gradual tanner, comes in light or med/dark and is very subtle, you can build it up over time. It smells quite nice as well, a sort of apricot smell.

MamaDuckling · 02/07/2016 19:36

Neom candle in Vanilla and Sandalwood - no idea why they'd discontinue the most perfect smell in the world. I kept a tiny bit back of my last candle as it reminds me so much of my honeymoon - heaven.

Also, laidbare rice bran body scrub, I'm yet to find anything as thorough and amazing smelling. I think it was from NZ but haven't found it online at all since my last one ran out.

Shiseido used to do the most perfect solid foundation... Came with a blending sponge in beautiful packaging.

If anyone knows good substitutions I'd be keen to hear!

MrsPear · 02/07/2016 19:40

Lush flying fox shower gel

Any suggestions on what to replace this gorgeous jasmine scent would be wonderful

AdoraKiora · 02/07/2016 19:41

The original Tigi Shine Junkie.

It cam in a tub and was a sort of light serum/shine gel that smelled divine and made hair smooth and shiny but was totally weightless and non-greasy. They changed the formula (thinner and more serum-like) and put it in a weird squirty bottle. Then discontinued it altogether Angry.

D&G Feminine perfume. Miss it so much Sad

chocdonutyy · 02/07/2016 19:48

Boots candy floss lip balm. ok, more of a teenage girl thing but I loved it! It was in a range that I can't remember the name of now!

memyselfandaye · 02/07/2016 19:51

Clinique gentle light powder, 03 glow. God I miss it, nothing else comes close.

GerdaLovesLili · 02/07/2016 22:34

Body Shop Dewberry stuff! I'd probably hate it now, but I'd like to smell it again.

Cristiane · 02/07/2016 22:53

I miss Esprit de Soleil so much... I remember it so fondly

Lancome did another fake tan gel for face called Flash Bronzer that I liked. But then it changed

Bring back esprit de Soleil!! I first tried it in a sachet that came with Elle magazine or something. I felt it was also good for my skin....
