New thread!

Title can refer either to our upcoming holidays, or our upcoming fleeing from the Bojo-led charabanc of doom.

Caramel sauce not Carmel , who is a girl I work with. Also the strawbs are clearly just for show in that recipe.

bigTillyMint · 06/07/2016 21:14

Re cake, I would just like to say that the Victoria Sponge I knocked up on Sunday was described as "heaven on a plate" by DD earlier as she was rooting round for some moreGrin

Go you, Molly - flash the flesh and enjoy it!

bigTillyMint · 06/07/2016 21:16

Cremo, I love the name Carmel - one of my uni friends' sisters was/is called CarmelSmile

Lalsy · 06/07/2016 21:59

BTM, hard to get calls like that when you can't do anything and what has happened is so unclear Flowers.

MI, hurrah on extra work.

Molly, I have bought some shorts too (am going somewhere hot for the first time in.....years). That probably guarantees a rubbish summer.

Printed map icing? I don't understand but it sounds amazing. Herbs, sleep well and good luck tomorrow.

herbaceous · 06/07/2016 22:17

Icing Lady prints everything on to icing - photos, drawings, whatever. Not just maps! Yiu email her the pic, and two days later it comes through the post in icing form! It's a miracle.

Oh Herbs it sounds marvellous. If only these things had existed in the past. I was imaging you tracing lines with the icing writing pens like this:

Btw lots and lots of luck for tomorrow. If it's for you , it'll not go past you.CakeFlowers

Crumbs, BTM, has your DM always been feisty?! Shock

My DCs always request Bought Cakes because I have form for appalling baking failures. I do like the sound of the deconstructed cake, Crem. Even I couldn't mess that one up. I'm sure mini-Herbs will be delighted with his iced tube map and won't give a fig that it's stuck on a Sainsbo's tray bake.

Beachy - I think I know which 6th Form College you are referring to, but no, it's a bit too far away for us. DS is off to the one near us tomorrow for his introductory day. I'd like to say he has invested a good amount of time to think long and hard about his A level choices, but I'd be lying. Angry

herbaceous · 06/07/2016 22:27

I had considered something like that, Crem, but as I have the icing skills of a blind manatee, it would end up on one of those Cake Fail websites.

Molly, sorry, your post didn't show on my iPad for some reason. I have always felt this to be the case Molly. Didn't see article , but will find and read. Sounds interesting Smile
I love my girls as much as I would a dog. They are equally funny and surprisingly affectionate.

The nice men on the Today programme said of goats 'urban dwellers should be aware that while sociable, goats do need a field'.

www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2016/07/06/goats-are-as-loving-and-clever-as-dogs-say-smitten-scientists/

Dd, who loves goats and dogs, has just boarded a bus to take her off to Europe for a month, interrailing. Gah.

Stropperella · 06/07/2016 23:13

Wishing you the best of luck for tomorrow, Herbs.

Cremolafoam · 06/07/2016 23:21

Oh Molly, you will miss her, I know. She'll be grand and have a ball.
Maybe you and Beachy should form a young person abroad group, to get you both through the anxious momentsSmileChocolateFlowers
And thanks for the article.Too kind.

Herbs, a field helps, if you are fond of flowerbeds and hedges that have leaves still growing on them.Hmm

Collymollypuff · 06/07/2016 23:50

Us mums (they are going en masse) are planning the fumigation of their rooms, mwhahahaha. Maybe I could get a goat lodger for a month. He would feel at home in her room. Plenty of ancient snacks to eat.

Blackduck · 07/07/2016 06:03

Ds has had expensive made/iced Thomas cake, Colin the caterpillar (I thought that was the cake of choice :) ) and now a rather lovely chocolate tart from 'Josephine's little tart shop' - a local ,um who hand makes the things - it is divine and quite grown up......

Goats - love them, but no room here.

Mouse has eaten the poison so tonight I shall have to empty toy box and extract corpse .... Joy

Blackduck · 07/07/2016 06:03

BTM Shock at dmum :)

hattymattie · 07/07/2016 07:02

Crepies - lurking and trying to keep up but a bit snowed under. DD2 got brilliant bac results but scewed very much towards English not Bio which she wanted to study. She has missed her offer by one point and the Uni say she needs to wait till UK results on 18 August. I'm crossing fingers it will be OK as with Brexit - don't want to do gap year which would be the obvious solution if things go pear shaped. I am praying she is accepted but this involves six weeks more stress. Of course, now she is saying she should have applied for English or similar and would be in a top uni by now. Nothing is ever straightforward.

Meanwhile - Herbs - avery good luck to you today - knock em dead xx

bigTillyMint · 07/07/2016 07:17

Hatty, can she go through English clearing? I'm sure it will all work out in the end although it feels very unnerving now Flowers

BD, good luck with the mouse!

Herbs, good luck with the interview!

Molly, and Beachy, I am very much hoping that DD will do an interailing/other sort of travelling trip next summer. And not a holiday in Zante as is currently being proposed.

Apparently my maternal granddad was an amateur boxerGrin

Cremolafoam · 07/07/2016 07:25

Oh Hatty, I've got my fingers crossed for your dd. It's so unfair isn't it? It will work out, I'm sure. It ain't over til the far side of clearing, so plenty of options still possible for her I hope.

Text from dsis to say dbil's lovely dmum died last night. She'd been ill for a long time, so not unexpected but very sad. She was only 60. Dsis and family trying to get back from holiday in states. They only went on Tuesday, so quite an awful time for them. We are all ShockShockSad

NUFC69 · 07/07/2016 07:51

Good luck today, Herbs. You know you can do it. BTM, what a worry about DM. Can the care home cope with her behaviour? Hatty, BTM, as usual, has good advice. Fingers crossed for DD. Rudy, have I missed your birthday? I hope the DC who are away doing exciting things are not being missed too much.

When my DC were young, apart from going to a posh bakers, there was no other option other than make your own birthday cakes. I have quite fond memories of Humpty Dumpty sitting on a wall, and a rather lurid ship sailing the ocean (Polo mints for portholes). Happy, but stressful, days.

bigTillyMint · 07/07/2016 08:01

NU, I hope so! It is a Dementia/Alzheimers registered Nursing Home, so fingers crossed. They didn't seem too phased when they rang - I'm sure it's not uncommon with Dementia sufferers.

Humpty Dumpty and ship with polo portholes sound fab!

Lalsy · 07/07/2016 08:04

Oh Hatty, what a worry. From watching dd and mates, by far the most important thing is the subject - no point in being somewhere marvellous on paper if work fills you with dread. I am sure it will pan out.

Oh Crem how sad.

Molly, hope they have a lovely time!

Cremolafoam · 07/07/2016 08:14

Rudys bday tomorrow NU - i think.
Day before dd's iirc

Blackduck · 07/07/2016 08:19

Stropps is everything okay? Saw your FB post....

Lalsy · 07/07/2016 08:35

I saw that, BD. Hope all well, Stropps.

BTM, just browsing and saw your post about personal statements and different subjects - how similar are dd's choices? There isn't a rule as such - it would just be hard to write something convincing about two different subjects. dd applied to courses with different content and titles and it was fine - but they were related.
