How to avoid looking cheap in the summer.

What would be your main tips on how to look good during the summer?
Any particular colors, fabrics, styles (or brands) to avoid?
The How to Look Expensive threads were really interesting, but I find it's easier to look more together in the winter, but more of a problem in the summer.
I always end up looking like a bag of shit
Sometimes I 'get it right' but when I do, it's purely accidental

7/8 trousers - are sandals an ok look or do they only look good with heels? Just looking at the links to the Gap and Zara ones and the models all have heels on.

I always wear them with flat, Ride - normally brogues.

I think sandals are fine either way, just as long as they don't look tacky (too much bling or plastic).

Overall, though if you want to look expensive you must have the attitude. Straight back and shoulders and a quietly confident manner.

I remember reading as a kid, wear rags like riches, and riches like rags.

I may be wrong but I think I look better in 3/4 length capris than in 7/8- my gym capris look awesome, and rolled skinnies make me look dumpy- I am very short legged and long waisted so maybe the proportions are just all wrong. I like those tesco trousers but suspect I would look like a circus clown in them!

Question: are 7/8 the same things big as "ankle grazers"?

Pretty much Happens.

I buy 7/8 trousers, and then shorten them by approx 1 inch (so they're somewhere between 3/4 and 7/8). This is because I've got long legs (despite only being 5' 6") and true ankle grazers look like I'm wearing full length trousers that have shrunk in the wash!! My trousers have to be just above the ankle bone, so that it's clear they are intentionally that length, not due to a laundry mis-hap!!

Yes to this, I roll them up one hem width.

I love ankle grazers. I have slim ankles ( one of the few parts of me that's slim) so like to show them off.
