blingy yes, something like that. see I should be searching Mother of the Bride!

dejarderoncar · 22/02/2016 22:11

the Indian idea is a great one, thanks. Have to wait and see what OH is planning, in case she's thinking Japanese...

IMO Judy Dench is and always has been a very attractive woman, but then I like inner beauty and intelligence, good bones and lovely eyes - like my OH

off to check out some ideas, back tomorrow.

Karcheer · 22/02/2016 22:15

deja how about this?

libertydoddle · 22/02/2016 22:20

This cami and trousers might work and then find a fabulous jacket and shoes!

AmberNectarine · 22/02/2016 22:32

deja hello and congratulations!

Someone posted a thread the other day where they were maid of honour at their cousin's wedding and the brides were both wearing these fantastic silk nehru jackets and trousers in these incredible bright colours. So chic and gorgeous - will see if I can find the link!

AmberNectarine · 22/02/2016 22:36

This sort of thing

FedupNagging · 22/02/2016 22:56

Hi Deja, congratulation; love a MNV wedding.

Definitely look at Indian style fashion and maybe Google the lagenlook - lots of flowing layers over trousers, linen and statement jewellery.

There's some fab photos of Dame Judy on Pinterest too which will definitely give you some ideas. Sorry for the lack of links but am on the iPad which is rubbish for linking.

safetyzone · 22/02/2016 22:56

Sorry all, have been rubbish for not posting. Am catching up on the thread right now.

Congrats deja and welcome. Re. outfit, how about finding a good dressmaker to make an outfit for you? In terms of ideas I quite like what Duchess of Cornwall has worn - here. I especially like the midi white coat for the civil service - would it work over trousers for you?

Shopping related ponderings from me:

I've bought this on a bit of an impulse, after reading about the off shoulder trend here. Was surprised to see them selling out in both Whistles and M&S version as well, but managed to find my size in my local Whistles.

Read this in the Guardian recently, do anyone here go out in leggings? I tried this today as was off work and had to go to pilates lesson, not sure I'm convinced it works on me yet. And where do you buy leggings from? Have got various pieces from Stella Adidas and Sweaty Betty, never tried Lululemon, and bulked at £100 price tag (for now).

justasecond · 22/02/2016 23:11

congratulations deja and welcome! some great suggestions already. I also think indian style is a good idea, slim trousers over a tunic would look lovely. Do you live near a big city with asian shops?

libertydoddle · 22/02/2016 23:33

safety I am in Queenstown in NZ ATM and EVERYONE is wearing sport leggings. All the staff in cafes and bars, people on the street etc.

Dreamqueen · 23/02/2016 06:55

Congrats & welcome Deja

i haven't been on here very long but have certainly upped my style game since taking advice from the lovely MNV

Karcheer · 23/02/2016 09:29

safety when I was working at the yoga studio I dressed like this all the time! they are so easy to wear.

QueenC · 23/02/2016 11:00

Morning. deja Congratulations. I'm not sure that i can add much more than the others have.
safety I love the comfort of my sports leggings but I'm not sure I could wear them as day wear. I'm not keen on my bum (too big) and leggings always give me camel toe Grin

BerniceBobsHerHair · 23/02/2016 12:30

Hello, feel like I have loads to catch up on.

Congrats Deja! Also don't think I can add to the advice already given. Love the styles that have been suggested.

Karcheer I like your casual haul, some great stuff there. I agree with Mara that you could do casual in the same style as Blingy. I also think - like QC - that you are not likely to be a natural if you don't like / find casual dressing very easy.

Jealous of all these skiing holidays, sounds great.

Marsha did you decide on any of the shoes? I liked those heeled Lanvins. I quite like the flat gold ones but they seem like they would show the outline of the foot when you wear them...which I thought as a foot phobe you would hate?!

Safety I like those bardot tops, but I am wide of shoulder so will probably be swerving the style. If it suited me though I love this one

I might try this cold shoulder one though.

Job thing sounds good Stokey, I think either outfit sounds good. Would prob go in what you feel most comfortable in.

dejarderoncar · 23/02/2016 12:37

Thank you to everyone who have given me ideas, my head is spinning with them all!
I am now torn between some kind of oriental/asian hybrid in gorgeous colours and fabric, or basic good quality loose trousers and matching camisole type top, and a real statement piece on top, maybe made to measure and copied (more or less) from something hideously expensive but wonderful.

Also you seem to have led me to rediscover my alternative/hippy side (Well I was there throughout the 60's!) Following the Judi Dench advice, which was great, I stumbled on Bluefish an American company, and really liked some of their things as well.

Anyway I am going to have a fab few months working it all out, maybe with a whole new loook for my new life.

BerniceBobsHerHair · 23/02/2016 12:39

Meant to add, I had a look round John Lewis yesterday - rare that I go round RL shops. The kin range looks nice, and I also liked a few things from the JL collection range: I love this coat and this breton.

They also stocked some Finery - so it must be doing well. Nice to see the clothes irl and they had the dress and top in the print of the trousers you like Shop (bit of a mangled sentence there). I liked these trousers but they are probably a bit too worky for me atm.

QC I really like that cardigan you tried, shame it didn't work for you.

QueenC · 23/02/2016 12:50

berbice which cardigan was that? The ines Uniqlo one? Ive come to the conclusion that all navy cardis look frumpy on me, no idea why but I'm better in a bit of colour.
I look forward to seeing if finery comes to our JL. I love some of their own range stuff too but it often comes up big so sometimes even an 8 is too big.

Ootd is skinny jeans, navy patterned blouse that I haven't worn in ages and cobalt cardi (im waiting for a new one to arrive from HOF to replace this worn looking one). I worked yesterday so have taken today off. Normally I hate being at home when the cleaner is here but it's been lush as I haven't felt the need to do anything other than relax. Sometimes it's just nice to have a lazy day without feeling guilty Smile

BerniceBobsHerHair · 23/02/2016 13:03

I think it was mint velvet QC - the one with the fringing

Karcheer · 23/02/2016 13:54

blingy could you do a few ootd for me so I can understand how you're do casualnotcasual Smile

Stokey · 23/02/2016 14:11

Congratulations Deja I love the Asian look too. I got the Dds some saris for Christmas and was great fun shopping in the Asian area, such great colourful outfits.

I really like that Topshop top Bernice. And most intrigued to see if Finery have made it to my JL.

Thanks for the clothes advice, I'll probably go for the pencil skirt as I'll feel more worky in it. But need to venture into the attic this afternoon and get my work clothes down - not sure if I'm ready Confused

FedupNagging · 23/02/2016 15:28

Bernice I love that Topshop Bardot top, it is so striking.

Deja this outfit and this dress are two outfits I saw last night for you.

Ootd is blue maison scotch skinnies and grey Jaeger polo neck, both of which are super comfy. I've only made it outside for a dog walk so far today so added this jacket pom pom hat and fleece lined snow boots. No jewellery or makeup Blush

Cranagh · 23/02/2016 17:05

Congratulations Deja! No advice really but will have a think, I like the ideas here.

Gorgeous top, Safety. I got a discount code from Whistles today, must take a look.

My brother in Australia has complained about that trend, Liberty! However I am still in my Lululemon leggings as have not bothered to change and did two school runs like that. Love .

I'm cross because I missed out on a Canada Goose parka I really wanted that finally went on sale It's DH's fault.

Cranagh · 23/02/2016 17:11

Best of luck with the work chat, Stokey. Love that pencil skirt.

QueenC · 23/02/2016 17:29

stokey just see how you feel after the chat.
bernice id forgotten the mintvelvet cardi Grin. I was pretty gutted as because it was more jacket like than cardi it looked non frumpy.

a boring purchase but a needed replacement.

justasecond · 23/02/2016 19:07

Love the colour of that cardi queenc
Good luck with the work chat stokey that skirt is a lovely print.
seems like you have been gone ages lib hope you are having a fab time.
I recently bought some nike running leggings as I was the only one in my classes with joggers on Blush
Oh and Flowers to marsha for the lovely compliment a few pages ago although I am sure she is thinking of someone else

I bought these at the weekend
in navy they are really good, just a bit wider to look more up to date and the perfect length. Tempted to get the black too. Also got this jumper which is a change for me. Looks nice with the uniqlo trousers
