Good really interesting, beautiful pictures and lots about the history of the magazine, and what was going on in the world and how the photographers represented that.

Stokey · 22/02/2016 17:24

I do hate people experiencing life through their phones, very sad.

Agree Lara, I saw a whole article just about what Alexa Chung was wearing at the shows without even mentioning the clothes that were being shown.

So I need some clothes advice. I have a meeting with my old company on Wednesday to discuss a job. It's not a formal interview, more coming in for a chat. The dress code for work was smart casual. What would you wear? I'm thinking maybe pencil skirt and black poloneck jumper? Or just black skinny trousers, a shirt and v-neck jumper? It's for a client facing role but think it would be a bit OTT to wear a suit.

FedupNagging · 22/02/2016 17:35

LFW pics here

I love looking at all the weird and wonderful collections but do wonder how it will translate to the high street and in particular to a middle aged woman! I didn't mind the Topshop collection and did like the lace dresses but no way am I trotting down my local high street in a dress with my granny pants on full view!

Love the Erdem check suit and lovely colours in the Roksander collection. Also like the Pringle outfits Blush but I'm a sucker for knitwear anyway.

Its a shame the Finery dress doesn't suit you Stokey - I really like it but it is quite a busy print if you're small.

I think we need a live parcel unveiling One.

shopafrolic · 22/02/2016 17:48

Stokey both sound good, whichever you feel more comfortable in. For me it would be shirt and trousers.....

shopafrolic · 22/02/2016 18:22

I was reading 100 things to buy before you die and it said a Pringle knit was a must.

Karcheer · 22/02/2016 19:29

My outnet jeans have arrived, they are nice, so keepers.
My old black/grey boyfriend jeans I used to own (in my black days) I only ever wore with heels in the evening.
These ones aren't as baggy and I'd like to wear them in the day.
What should I wear on my feet, I've no clue :/

maradesbois · 22/02/2016 19:47

Hello all,

Jumping back in, just home from skiing holiday like you Vegas. Skinny jeans feeling tight after the fondue etc but it did feel good to make a bit of effort again, wore with marant red check shirt and black personalised stans.

Stokey work stuff sounds interesting. I think pencil skirt and polo neck sounds a good option.

Haven't looked at much lfw stuff but fed up in general with celebrity culture taking over fashion like the new supermodels plucked from reality tv, not a patch on cindy, Christy etc in the 90s. Aspirational blogs also annoying me (in particular my own fascination with them!). Read wit for first time in ages and she's getting gifted Chanel bags, was surprised as didn't think she was at that level.

Marsha I love those lanvins with chunky heel can totally see you in them.

Shop dh wears pringle cashmere, it is fab quality. He has Burberry from years ago that is gorgeous but newer ones not so good.

Karcheer glad you found some good jeans. I think you sound much more at ease with dressed up than casual so why not try to avoid going too casual but keep a smart element like Blingy does whether via fabric, accessories or whatever. Can imagine you say in caramel leather skinnies and cream cashmere for winter and white jeans with belt and fitted shirt for spring. For your autumn colours think hermès orange and keep away from primark!

Got to run, home alone with sick child and tons of coursework.

FedupNagging · 22/02/2016 19:57

I got around to dying my jeans today and am pleased with the results. The Maison & Scotch jeans have turned a really deep navy and look more like navy skinnies than jeans so I'll get lots more wear out of them now. The others were some next jeans which look pretty good too.

Stokey I cant open your pencil skirt link but for an informal chat I guess the skinnies would be fine.

Am intrigued, what else is on that list Shop?

February is nearly over and I've managed not to buy any clothes dh is well pleased with the cc bill. Not sure I'll manage March though as I've seen a few dresses from Hush that would be perfect. Are there any discount codes kicking around?

Won't link the dresses but there are one or two other pieces I like:
Maxi skirt
Ruched skirt
Love this
Flamingo t neckline not flattering for me though
Feather t with a better neckline

QueenC · 22/02/2016 19:59

stokey I think either of those outfits sound fine. Just as long as you avoid jeans and look like you've made an effort you'll be ok.

I can't be arsed with all the pictures of fashion week. As people have said nowadays it's just about the people that attend and sit on the FROW (get me with the lingo Grin). With the rise in street snappers as well, everyone just dresses to be papped and end up on Pinterest.

I didn't finish writing what I wanted to earlier about blogs. As I said, I was suprised by the level of management behind some of the big ones despite being a cynic already. I've slowly gone off blogs and my IG feed is doing my head in (.yet somehow I can't quite seem to give it up just yet). It is the same brands being fawned over and the same people commenting on each other's photos/posts fawning over how wonderful they look Hmm. mara I think wit was only loaned the shoes and bag rather than gifted.

one yes, that's the parcel. Sorry, a lot of sellotape went on it so won't be easy to open. Hope it works for you.

Larastheme · 22/02/2016 20:18

shop I used to own a sweater from Pringle in their famous argile pattern back in my preppy days, way back in early 2000s Wink, they used to have a big store on bond street where the ugly eyesore that is victoria secret is now, my how times have changed!

Not sure their esthetic is you though,

I'm so glad I'm not the only one unimpressed with LFW, it really looks mediocre, with all those celebs,
Now the clothes don't look impressive at all, except a few pieces in the Peter pilotto show, the rest are all samey.

stokey I'd go with the skirt ,

Oh! mara at erdem caroline sieber is wearing that beautiful chanel coat you tried on,looks gorgeous on her with the matching skirt,

Larastheme · 22/02/2016 20:27

I just love these two, they are coolness personified

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 22/02/2016 20:28

even I've had a pringle sweater, mine was baby pink, white and grey, in the argyle pattern. Not sure why i bought it as it was very different to my usual style but i did like it a lot and wore it til it fell apart. I'm not sure though that i'd ever buy one again, not in that pattern anyway

Larastheme · 22/02/2016 20:35

And queen I know what you are saying ,I've stopped watching tutorials for a while, as it was just a new product every time, and then I started to look at them again and its like the whole process of applying makeup has changed since Confused, I know about contour, but now its stropping?

Larastheme · 22/02/2016 20:38

Natalie massenet, is wearing a skinny tie at the erdem show and is looking like an Edwardian school teacher, Grin

Enough ramblings from me tonight,

Night all!

FedupNagging · 22/02/2016 20:38

"Veronika hasn’t influenced me in terms of what I wear, but I do find it important looking presentable when I am with her as she deserves this." - Justin O'Shea - I will mention this to dh next time he deems it acceptable to accompany me to Waitrose in his DIY clobber Grin

dejarderoncar · 22/02/2016 20:50

Hi all, have not read the full thread, but this appears to be the place for general fashion/style chat. If I am in the wrong place please tell me. Usually post in AIBU-

I need some perhaps unsual help, and I know among the vast multitude of MNers someone will be able to point me in the right direction.

I am a 70 year old Lesbian and am getting married to my partner of over twenty years. I am quite fat, and for genuine medical reasons it's hard to lose weight. But I am trying my damndest, and hope to be a size 16/18 for the wedding. I am 5foot 6in, so average height.

I am what is called 'soft butch', and am found 100 per cent of time in some version of casual trousers and top. But I don't dress or try to look like a man, I look like pretty much any woman in casual wear these days, the problem is formal wear.

So I don't want a wedding dress, and I don't want anything remotely like a man's suit.

Am thinking of something like a long top/tunic over loose trousers. Would like them to look 'special', but without frills and flounces. Will pay for good quality, and can shop online from anywhere.

If I Google 'Lesbian wedding' I get a load of mainly US sites, where most of the couples go for the full wedding dress/tuxedo or best suit look....ughh!

I'd love to hear your ideas. I know nothing about fashion, or which shops or designers might work for me.

LinusLovesBretons · 22/02/2016 21:29

dejarderoncar welcome and congratulations!

I know she's a lot older than you but have a look at Judi Dench's red carpet style.

She often wears flowy trousers with lovely embellished tunics on top. There's a silvery beaded one that springs to mind but I am on my phone and linking is a pain in the behind.

Ladies, I've been awol again but I'll try and catch up tomorrow. Night night.

libertydoddle · 22/02/2016 21:36

Welcome dejarderoncar! A wedding thread always gets people excited!

First I would suggest you copy and paste your post and start a new thread on Style and Beauty as you will get more traffic and broader range of opinions that just here.

I am off to start looking at ideas for you. My first thoughts are to check out a brand called Birger et Mickelson (my spelling could be off there) and also Marina Rinaldi.

Back soon.... Smile

shopafrolic · 22/02/2016 21:37

dejarderoncar welcome. You may get more luck setting up a specific S&B thread to get store ideas but in terms of outfits I loved what Ellen de Generes wore for her marriage to Portia di Rossi (sp?). Soft blouse and trousers. Lots of images on Google. Congratulations! When is the big day?

Longislandicetee · 22/02/2016 21:37

Hi dejardener, many congratulations!Smile just trying to understand what you are looking for a bit more....

are you thinking something like this? Or maybe this? I don't think you're tall enough for this? What colour are you planning on wearing? Your description of yourself makes you sound like one of my good friends. When she got married she wore a simple long tunic (long sleeved) with trousers. I think it was Ivory. it could have been jade ie not ivory. Or maybe lilac She was a gorgeous bride. If you can sort out style you want then colour then next will be where to get the outfit. That way you don't limit yourself.

Longislandicetee · 22/02/2016 21:38

Look at us all leaping on the bride!Grin

dejarderoncar · 22/02/2016 21:41

thanks, Linus, will google some of her outfits- I don't think she's particularly tall and willowy either. She's always beeen a great actress and favourite of mine since seeimg her on TV dramas in the 60-70's

Drywhitethanks · 22/02/2016 21:46

Deja welcome. I'd go to an Indian fashion store, love the tunic over slim trouses worn by Asian ladies. Think the embellished silks are stunning.

OP posts:
Longislandicetee · 22/02/2016 21:54

Yes I would go Indian too. I love those outfits with the tunic and trousers.

As an aside I saw a thread recently where someone said judi dench wasn't attractive. Shock

dejarderoncar · 22/02/2016 21:58

wedding date not set yet, but I think will probably be Sept/Oct in north of England, so could be cool and wet. Have not set any colour theme, but don't go for harsh, bright colours. A light olive, mauve, russet and French blue is good, and would think cream or ivory would be bridal. Love Ellen's outfit, but how skinny is she! Would just look too butch on me I think.
