Ugg boots - yes or no?

I've been given some money for Christmas by DH who is far too crap to choose a present (frankly it's better this way...) We're in Germany which is bloody freezing and I'm kind of longing for some lovely sheepskin lined Ugg boots but don't know if they're a complete no no by now. Any views?

I think I'm going to go for chestnumt rather than sand. SHOULD get short ones as have matching short legs but I love the idea of snuggly sheepskin all the way up to my knees

I picked chestnut as thought the sand ones might get a bit grubby

Scootergirl · 20/12/2006 21:13

I agree. Have just measured my legs (???) re tall v short and think I'll have to go for the short as, by my reckoning, the tall ones will come over my knees [grin}

BlueDaisy · 20/12/2006 21:15

Scootergirl · 20/12/2006 21:16

But the lovely boots will be lonely without you...
Sod it. DH has been in Afghanistan for six months and I deserve a treat!

Bought boots. Am ashamed Money could have been spent on buying DC's more toys to add to the teetering pile in the dining room... and the bedrooms... and the dining room.
Instead have new boots to add to the teetering pile in the wardrobe! Yay!

Which ones did you decide to get?

whatwouldjesusdo · 20/12/2006 21:58

Phew I wore them the first time round, so no obligation to do so again...

Scootergirl · 21/12/2006 06:33

The classic chestnut ones - sand would have got far too grubby as someone said.

2000milestoeidsvold · 21/12/2006 10:24

NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO they really are not a fashion item... they have always been naff here in Aus - always amuses me to see people wearing them.

expatinscotland · 21/12/2006 10:27

NO, NO, NO.

chocolatedot · 21/12/2006 10:28

I adore my ugg boots but I'd rather die than wear them outside the house!

MamaG · 21/12/2006 10:29

I think they are awful, sorry

expatinscotland · 21/12/2006 10:29

They look like a walking cast.

expatinscotland · 21/12/2006 10:30

What about a nice pair of Timberlands or walking boots w/a Smartwool sock and a liner sock?

Just as warm and toasty, but not so ugly.

MamaG · 21/12/2006 10:31

expat I'm avoiding your threads today. I've got a horrible chesty choky cough that is worse when I laugh.

Just had a horrible coughing fit after reading "look like a walking cast"

expatinscotland · 21/12/2006 10:32

They look like something used to treat burns, Mama, they really do.

MamaG · 21/12/2006 10:45

Think we've killed this thread expat. Maybe they are all snivelling into their Uggs

Bugsy2 · 21/12/2006 11:13

Uggs come in the same category as Birkenstocks for me: NO. They are totally unflattering & make even slim people look like they have short legs & canckles. YUK!

expatinscotland · 21/12/2006 11:16

They just draw attention to the feet. And not in a good way.

DingDongDraculaOnHigh · 21/12/2006 11:18

I used them as slippers for years and years
Always used to get the piss taken out of me for having such silly slippers (my mum brought them back from oz for me)

However now that they are a billion quid I can't be arsed

They used to be about £20!
