No returns - I wouldn't take the risk!

JolseBaby · 24/01/2016 19:47

I have just about forgiven DH for machine washing and tumble drying my pure cashmere scarf. It was a really fine knit navy and very long and large - a present from my Mum. He had no idea what he'd done until I showed him how much it would cost to replace...

The two merino wool sweaters I ordered from Uniqlo have arrived - really pleased with them and they have some in the sale online if anyone's looking.

Wagglebees · 24/01/2016 19:55

No camp cashmere in tk maxx today but there was a very pink merino sweater. Too big unfortunately but at least I know it's worth a look now.

DoubleDeClutchMuch · 24/01/2016 20:40

Higge, that's a good point, I hadn't noticed!

Re. camp cashmere, as it's designed for men what is the fit across the shoulders like? I always find men's clothes are the wrong fit. Good idea though!

mathanxiety · 24/01/2016 20:53

JolseBaby, have you tried soaking it in cold water with hair conditioner and stretching it out gently? Once stretched (be gentle), secure it with clean, heavy objects at the ends and somewhere along the middle and dry it flat. Or you can stretch it on a clean white towel after gentle stretching and roll it too.

Wagglebees · 24/01/2016 20:56

Good point. I hadn't thought of that Double. I was assuming a small would fit ok but I have narrow shoulders so maybe not. If I ever spy one again I'll remember to try it on first.

JolseBaby · 24/01/2016 21:29

Math - it was about the size of a walnut and completely matted by the time he'd done with it. Completely and utterly ruined. It had been through a 60 degree wash and then a 'cotton' setting tumble dry Sad

He held it up to me as a 'bugger sorry I've ruined your scarf' thinking I would laugh. He was a bit taken aback when I went pale and then was horrified when I told him how much they were! I still haven't told my Mum as she would be really upset by it. I keep my eye out for something in the sale - it's just one of those things unfortunately. Upsetting and annoying but just a scarf in the grand scheme of things my favourite ever cashmere - CASHMERE! - scarf

applesandpears33 · 24/01/2016 22:02

This thread has been good for me. I'm not sure I look that much more put together, but I have at least been trying. I've been wearing some make up and putting a little more thought into my clothes.

Almost all of my cashmere comes from Boden. I wash it in the washing machine on a wool setting with Lakeland wool wash and it comes out well.

mathanxiety · 24/01/2016 22:03

I would make him buy you another Shock

Lurleene · 24/01/2016 22:24

I was watching Madam Secretary on Sky last night (Tea Leoni plays the Secretary of State) and I thought she epitomised this look really well, from work through to her pyjamas. Although at one point she took off a white blouse and had a black bra on underneath Grin.

GraceKellysLeftArm I love Peony & Moore as well, just got this in the sale, looks like new Gucci Soho mini which is VER expensive! I'm also a massive fan of cashmere to make a look feel way more expensive than it is.

A decent bag and a bit of cashmere will make a £10 pair of primark skinnies look expensive.

AppleSetsSail · 25/01/2016 10:33

Although at one point she took off a white blouse and had a black bra on underneath grin.

I think if you are perfectly turned out (as her character is), you can absolutely pull off a black bra under a white blouse.

BeaufortBelle · 25/01/2016 12:08

I agree about the bag and cashmere and inexpensive skinnies (providing they fit perfectly) but see so often a great outfit let down by bad shoes. The importance of shoes is regularly overlooked. Personally I. Think low and quirky or characterful or heeled and elegant. Day to day and for work I tend to wear Gabor and for special occasions,Weitzman (I think), Peter Kaiser, LK Bennett. The more expensive ones get downgraded if they are plain and simple which they usually are and I never buy higher than 2.5 inches. Am old in MNet terms and have some tendon damage so am very conservative with shoes day to day.

Cel982 · 25/01/2016 18:11

Double, the one I got recently is a men's medium size; now I'm a size 8-10 and it's only very slightly large on the shoulders, I honestly don't think it would be noticeable to anyone else. It would be a very snug fit on a medium-sized male Smile

JolseBaby · 25/01/2016 19:40

I am struggling to find a decent leather pair of court shoes with a mid-heel, without spending ridiculous money. I tried these on but they are only in Navy - why on earth wouldn't you do them in black?

HairsprayQueen · 25/01/2016 19:54

I tried these on today jolse www.clarks.co.uk/p/26114677
They were no good for me but similar to the M&S ones in black

JolseBaby · 25/01/2016 20:42

I knew what they were going to be before I clicked on the link! I tried them at the weekend - the wide fitting ones worked OK for me but annoyingly the M&S ones are more comfortable. Grrr.

JolseBaby · 25/01/2016 21:19

I like the third ones - thank you! Why is it so difficult to find heels which don't cripple you but are also smart?

BeaufortBelle · 25/01/2016 21:34

Now the interesting thing having read the LK Bennett shoe blurb is that they recommend wearing it with a navy trouser. My grandma always told me that you must never ever wear black and navy together because it wasn't stylish and I never would wear blue with black accessories.

CaveMum · 25/01/2016 21:44

I have the " never wear navy and black together" thing as well!

Jones The Bootmakers have a sale on at the moment with some nice options. I was looking at these. £50 reduced from £120, in black or a dark purple.

BoffinMum · 25/01/2016 22:09

CaveMum, I would never thought of Jones Bookmakers. I have just bought two pairs of sale shoes, very classy. Hope they fit (I have quite wide feet).

CaveMum · 25/01/2016 22:14

I've got several pairs of boots and shoes from Jones, I've never had a problem. There's some lovely stuff in the sale Wink
