They are gorgeous Cavemum. I like Peter Kaiser very much.

You did make me laugh BoffinMum I'm tempted to nip into BetFred tomorrow and put £10 each way on something with decent odds. Might raise me enough for a pair of Ferragamo pumps Grin. Jones the Bookmakers!

DoubleDeClutchMuch · 25/01/2016 23:33

Can anybody give their opinion on these shoes please?

BeaufortBelle · 26/01/2016 07:51

For me they cross the line a bit from elegant to not quite cutting it, just a bit too pointy and too stiletto in a way that doesn't look expensive. Sorry.

HappyGirlNow · 26/01/2016 07:57

They shoes do look expensive, any less pointy or stilleto they'd look mumsy and frumpy in my opinion

Bonxie · 26/01/2016 08:47

If a navy/black combo is deliberate it can be very stylish and not interfere with the thread aims at all - it's been a thing for a few years now.

DoubleDeClutchMuch · 26/01/2016 09:01

Thank you Beaufort and HappyGirl for your thoughts - they kind of encapsulate the "enigma" (sorry can't think of a less poncey word) of this whole "looking expensive/chic/elegant" lark!

Beaufort I would love it if you could link to a pair that meet your criteria - purely to compare and try and nail this! And to see if HappyGirl finds them frumpy. Purely for research purposes IYSWIM! SmileSmile

Higge · 26/01/2016 09:11

Double I think they look frumpy it's the profile pic that would put me off - but with shoes I really think they need to be tried on to see how they look on you with your ankles, order them, try them on and if they make your ankles and clothes look amazing, and your heart beat a little faster, keep them. I love that website - I've been very tempted by a few pieces.

DoubleDeClutchMuch · 26/01/2016 11:14

Yes Higge it's a lovely website, I only found it because a PP mentioned it - had never heard of it. Thank you PP (can't remember name, sorry).

Is the profile pic the one with the trousers in it? My link just takes me to a row of pics and doing a search on the site doesn't find them - a bit odd?

I will order them and have a look- but now the F word has been mentioned I'm a little wary, and really wonder if I will be able to judge.

Still looking for a black court shoe with pointed toe and low stiletto - although does that combination automatically mean steer clear?? Want to wear with 3/4 cigarette type trousers and cashmere v neck with my Ebay Bottega Veneta white shirt underneath (which I got for £25, fits perfectly and is my best buy this year, totally inspired by this thread so thank you everyone)!

MerdeAlor · 26/01/2016 11:18

Interesting article in todays Guardian about what Sheryl Sandberg (facebook CEO) wore to the Davos winter conference in Switzerland. Whilst the feminist side of me thinks focussing on what women as opposed to men in business wear it is nevertheless interesting.

She wore a lightweight burgundy dress , matching shoes and no tights.
'She chose clothes to project competance, senority and excellence. She has a clear forumla: fitted dresses, medium heel height, block colours, no print, no jewellery apart from earrings. Clean lines and sleek polish, fashion is a powerful communication tool but it is also a nuanced and interpretive one'.

Following along the lines of what these two threads have said repeatedly. It's interesting that the chic and sophisticated look is also a look of seniority and and competance.

BeaufortBelle · 26/01/2016 12:48

double first and fourth links in my post above fit the bill for me. The fourth particularly although I would prefer a leather sole. I agree that shoes have to be tried on; the most elegant shoe will detract if it pinches or rubs or cuts in visibly - especially if reflected in the wearer's face.

KittyHello · 26/01/2016 13:40

Double depends on how much you want to spend and how much you cpw you want to get from them but these are great, especially when bought with a Grazia discount code! I wear them to work and out and they always look good, they are very comfortable and pretty timeless and providing you look after them, polish and get them re-heeled they should last a while:

black court shoes not too high, also look great with cigarette pants too!!

DoubleDeClutchMuch · 26/01/2016 13:51

Beaufort thanks - the first are suede which (for me, at least) gets tired quickly. I like the fourth, but agree about leather sole.

KittyHello - LOVE THEM! do you know a Grazia discount code?

The Uterque ones I linked to, I feel they have a slightly interesting quirk with the heel shape. Avoids the whole outfit becoming utterly predictable.... IMO of course. I had a HOC style day and came out as a "dramatic gamine" which means clean lines, classic gamine etc. but with a couple of tweaks. I guess that's why I was drawn to those shoes!

I think the styling isn't great with the shoes you linked to in Uterque. Are they for work?

BritabroadinAsia · 26/01/2016 13:53

Kitty - they are lovely! That heel height is perfect, and I love that they are quite pointy too. Classic without being frumpy - great choice.

ababsurdum · 26/01/2016 13:54

Hello all, de-lurking here. I've really enjoyed the two threads, thank you, but talk about shoes has prompted me to come on to ask a question.

I always seem to ruin shoes with covered heels very quickly - the leather gets scraped if I get the heel caught in a crack etc. This has happened to me occasionally on the first wear and then the shoes are all but ruined. Am I the only one this happens to? How is it avoided? Where I can I try to buy shoes without covered heels but it does limit choice obviously.

DoubleDeClutchMuch · 26/01/2016 13:59

No, Higge - I work in a nursery school!Grin

They are for meeting friends for lunch, usually central London etc. That type of thing. I really like the Hobbs ones you linked to.

KittyHello · 26/01/2016 14:18

Double no sadly, I'm waiting for a Grazia code too. Anyone? Can't bear to pay full price for things.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/01/2016 14:34

What's wrong with navy+black (or even black+brown) ?
I wear both combos (and I'm not bothered if it's 'wrong' )

What I can't stick is the black/black/black/black look.
It's like "Oh I'll buy that, in black" no thought given.
Different if it's a classic or black looks the better/more expensive option.
But a default "Buy it in black" mode is boring.

AppleSetsSail · 26/01/2016 14:38

Navy and black is super-chic IMO.

I am not fond of brown so I'm not sure of brown and black.

Mamia15 · 26/01/2016 15:31

I wear navy with black too although the navy I wear is usually very dark/indigo.

CaveMum · 26/01/2016 16:01

I bought the Peter Kaiser shoes. You lot are a bad influence Wink

PrimalLass · 26/01/2016 16:22

I love navy + black.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 26/01/2016 16:29

I love navy and black too. Coloured tights don't suit me, so I always have to wear black or nude, and the vast majority of the rest of my wardrobe is navy Grin

polyhymnia · 26/01/2016 16:46

No idea if we're still on the original question which started the thread but yes another navy and black enthusiast here.
