;) yes, I felt I made the break in an attractive spot, what.

Well, I don't care if my size is called 2 or 22 as long as it corresponds with the chart. grumble how else am I supposed to shop online? cries

Methenyouplus4 · 11/02/2016 21:12

I think if you use the size guide against your usual clothes to compare the sizes, and of it's still wildly off, you would be within your rights to ask for them to foot the bill for postage as it wouldn't be a true description?

banivani · 11/02/2016 22:41

In my opinion yes, absolutely, but it might be a hassle anyway. I am very lazy. I should be more gung-ho about consumer rights and opt for being the guinea pig on this one, I know.

House of Fraser has a tool on its website that tells you what size you should pick in a particular brand, which might be worth a look. You need to enter your height weight bra size & what size you are in a dress that fits you well.

As a result of checking on that tool, I have just seen and ordered a summer dress - cotton not polyester, although it doesn't fit the model very well...

Someone posted this Daily Mail link on my FB which I thought was quite funny

Has Posh got a left hand?

Bani, if you're anywhere near a Jaeger shop, IIRC you can buy and return from/to the website for free.

Their sizing is on the whole pretty generous.

DoubleDeClutchMuch · 16/02/2016 11:08

Did anyone see Homes Under The Hammer today?
Blush
If you can find it on iplayer, the lady called Miranda who bought the Brixton flat looked "expensive" whilst she was showing the flat after she'd done it up. (I didn't catch it earlier before she did it up so don't know how she was dressed at that point)!
At least, she looks like my own personal idea of the look we are all chasing on these threads. Chic, classy, pared down, attention to detail.

Thanks everyone! No, I'm in Sweden so am ever so limited in where I can shop, boo-hoo. Scandinavian higher-end brands are all cut for very narrow cylinders, lol, they all fit so badly. :/ Also most are to me more brand than substance. Used to work in a dry-cleaner's so I've seen how they perform in the wash.

Tried the House of Fraser tool! But I don't know what I weigh tbh - made a conscious decision many years ago not to own scales (you know when you're (un)fit and can feel your waistband pinch, after all), so that was the first hurdle. And then I had to say how long my torso was and stuff, is it long, short, average - I dunno. Tell me how to measure that and I can say - saying that you have a long torso if tops are often too short is useless - they were too short in the 90s when all tops were short, they're grand now when the fashion is for longer tops. Stupid. Final hurdle - name something you own that fits - cue loads of brands I don't own and a few that I just think fit ok - what am I to do? I gave up. Blush

I just watched the homes under hammer on iplayer - God, no I don't want to dress like that! She's a beautiful woman and very well groomed - posh accent, expensive haircut, great figure... But her clothes look horrid on her. The loose blouse was nice but the jacket was ill fitting and way too big and baggy on her which drowned her. The jeans/boots did nothing together. Definitely needed a shot of colour on her either as a scarf tied as a belt, or ...something! I thought she looked better in the puffa jacket!

MintyChops · 17/02/2016 23:06

I got this today. It is so cosy and looks great with jeans, skirts, trousers. I got it in xl and it fits really perfectly. I am 5'10" and size (gulp) 20.

banivani · 18/02/2016 15:36

Great looking jumper that, Minty! It's a style I am always afraid to try on myself blabla big shoulders. coward It always looks great on others though!

banivani · 03/04/2016 12:04

Ok, I have a question/conundrum. I want to be more of a buy quality person. So I go into the higher-end shops here and look at dresses and blouses that cost say €100 instead of €14.99 ;) and nothing ever fits really well. The more expensive the clothes are,the smaller they expect my bust (and arms) to be it seems. So what you're supposed to do then is take stuff to be altered, but I feel really resentful at paying a lot of money for things that fit badly and then pay more to have them altered and have no idea how successful that will be. If I'm going to buy something that I'm not really pleased with it had better be cheap, iyswim. I can't seem to get out of this mindset.

cressetmama · 03/04/2016 15:33

Higher end stuff seems to do less vanity sizing. I'm an 8-12 in the High St, but often larger more upmarket. And my great aunt's vintage stuff in a 16 is a good fit on my top half.

SayAGreatBigThankyou · 03/04/2016 15:54

I feel the same way about shoes bani. Ok, more expensive in the first place, and then I have to faff around taking them to a cobblers to be resoled?! FTS!

Just bought some t-shirts from Hush, hoping they will look better than Primark ones.

banivani · 03/04/2016 20:00

Exactly! I don't give a hoot about the size on the label as long as it fits but if I'm paying muchos dineros I'm not very inclined to also have to faff about with it. So I find myself browsing H&M like. For "bargains". Although atm I'm eyeing a Boden maxi dress in the sale Grin - not looking expensive but suuuummmmer.

AgathaMystery · 03/04/2016 23:23

Hi ladies... Have ploughed through this thread tonight & will treat myself to the original one tomorrow night! I love it!

I'm currently 2 stone into a 4 stone weight loss mission journey & have done a mass Marie Kondo de-clutter of my wardrobe which saw 6 bin bags go to charity Confused

I am now working on gradually replacing my wardrobe with simple classics. I am a mid 30's brunette who doesn't suit camel/beige tones but can wear navy /black /emerald /blue no problems.

I've started paying more for a decent haircut and always have neat, short nails. I'm lucky that I have a couple of decent handbags and a lovely watch & some super simple diamonds & pearls. I am all set for accessories.

I just find clothes shopping horrendous. Anyone else struggle as a pear shape? I am also fairly booby (lost 3 cup sizes thank god) & despair of my drumstick legs. I can't wear boot cuts. They make me shudder.

That sounds really dramatic. Hmm

I've just spent £80 in uniqlo, £150 in Boden & £80 at Pepperberry. I estimate I'll keep one item out of all that...

read the first thread, all 40 pages, now devouring this thread. I need all the help I can get. My friends and sisters despair of me. Im the scruffy one who nicks her husbands clothes because they are so comfy. Please keep this thread going!
