does anyone platinum blonde at home?

I know I know, pay a professional. I just can't afford it.

I am lusting after platinum blonde. I am currently natural medium blonde and am on the verge of buying the bleach London one to get to platinum. I am armed with icy platinum toner for afterwards and have booked a haircut on thursday to sort any damaged ends. I also have purple shampoo. Am I nuts? Is it possible to get a non brassy blonde at home, a proper platinum?

Either encourage me or completely talk me out of it please. I have wanted platinum for so long! I have quite an edgy style so I think I can pull it off. Any tips?

It looked lovely before too. I would have just put some really light blond highlights around the face to lift it BUT if you wanted to go platinum then you would always hanker after it until you did it. See how you feel after a week. You can always go a little darker blond.

Flanj youve made it look so easy I want to try but my hair is almost black so would take a lot more attempts which frightens me.

Will you post a pic post haircut too? :)

Dowser · 04/11/2015 23:13

Wow ....that's silver alright.

Nice colour. I would not have dared, so well done for being so brave.

How long till you need to touch up the roots?

flanjabelle · 05/11/2015 07:29

I'm thinking if I don't get used to it I will just go pink or Red. I know that sounds nutty but I have always wanted a proper base for proper colours and now I have it.

I had to do it, I'm very impulsive and I had been fighting the urge for months.

Will post a pic after the haircut :) its at 4.30.

Sorry dowser, I missed your question. It's 4-6 weeks.

Amazing result!! I'm so jealous Sad
I'm naturally a dirty blonde/mousy weird colour, used to bleach it, but damaged it really badly. Now I've been dying in really dark for about 6 years, and want to be blonde again Sad I dare not! I don't even trust my hairdresser to do it after all the bright orange light-bulb head disasters I've seen!
Yours look great though!! Very Danaerys Targaryen Grin

Ridingthegravytrain · 05/11/2015 08:56

It looks great. You'll soon get used to it and it also seems to tone down once the roots come through (can re tone in between if you like)

Just a word of warning when you do your roots really try to just get it on the roots as the ends won't need re bleaching and that's when it starts to get really damaged

flanjabelle · 05/11/2015 09:20

I'm just not sure if it suits my colouring. I have been playing around with my makeup, but I have a very pinky tone to my skin and it's really showing. It might be going red!

Why not, eave it to settle for a while. I always find my highlights calm down after the first week.

When your roots come through, break up the block colour with a few lowlights nearer to your root colour. That way you get thebenefit of both colours and it I'll be longer lasting.

You might need to get a girlfriend with a crochet hook to pick out the strands and do it with foils.

Imnot a hairdresser btw but when my hairdressing friend went a bit mad withmy highlights in my thirties she added low lights and it looked stunning.

Enjoy your colour but do have regular trims to keep the ends neat .

Dowser · 05/11/2015 10:31

I think pinky skin sounds fine. Very white hair can make an Already pale skin look washed out.

Skin with a bit of colour in it should look warm. In my opinion. I may be wrong though.

flanjabelle · 05/11/2015 11:59

Hmm I appear to have fallen head first into a pot of hair dye. And I love it!!!!!!! I can't stop looking at it in the mirror!! Look what it has done to my eyes!!

Well we didn't see your eyes before with your normal colour or your platinum colour so cant really say haha! But, this looks lovely too. You obviously were not happy with the face staring back at you in the mirror with the platinum. As long as you like it that's what is important.

Truckingalong · 05/11/2015 22:41

Wow! You've really gone for it this week haven't you! Each colour looks great to be honest but love the red on you!

Dowser · 05/11/2015 23:01

Didn't realise your hair colour before. What a gorgeous colour it was. I would be very happy with that.

The red is nice....but I loved your natural colour.

flanjabelle · 06/11/2015 08:13

I just needed a change. I have had a really difficult couple of years and needed a change. I have lost three stone, feel healthier and generally happier and I just needed to see a difference in the mirror if that makes any sense? I just wanted to leave the bad stuff behind me with a new look. I know it sounds daft, but things have been really shitty.

Well it looks great and you look great!

Blodss · 06/11/2015 11:10

Well done OP .Its good to recreate yourself

GeekLove · 06/11/2015 13:12

I go white but only my fringe and the hair growing below my ears. I'm ginger so I need 40 vol peroxide (Jerome Russel) for 1 hour. Still feels like hair but it is noticeably more brittle. I use a keratine-rich conditioner every other week to keep the hair happy.

beavington · 06/11/2015 23:03

Wow that was such a fleeting blonde flange! Your eyes really do look amazing in red though and you would've known if it just wasnt right for you.

Your thread has made me sooooooooo tempted to try this at home though even though it would take forever and probably look terrible with my massive black eyebrows :)

Wagglebees · 06/11/2015 23:21

I did love the bright white blonde but then couldn't see your eye colour or skin then.

I really get your reasoning behind the change too. You feel different inside so you want the outside to reflect that.

It's a gorgeous bright positive colour and your eye colour looks amazing! Love it.

PeppasNanna · 07/11/2015 00:07

Loved all the colours but really love the red!

Your brave (I secretly want dark blue hair but im too old!)

Go & enjoy your new gorgeous hair!!!

pnutter · 07/11/2015 00:11

What was the red you used flanj? I love it

BunnyLebowksi · 07/11/2015 00:15

flanjabelle what's that red? It's fab!

This is my new hair. Switched from faded lilac with grey roots this morning and I really love it Smile.

The platinum looks great, the red looks great and your natural hair also looks great.

Go for a deep dark sort of pinky colour next time if you're still on an adventurous roll, that would look amazing I think.

catdoodles · 07/11/2015 00:18

bunny that colour is gorgeous
