What top with this skirt for wedding - need to decide if to keep or return?

Hi
I have just bought this skirt to wear at my DSDs wedding next year. I absolutely adore it, but I am struggling to know what top to wear? I am absolutely useless at buying tops and the skirt is really expensive, so I need to be sure it's worth having.
I would normally wear a dress due to said top uselessness, but if anyone can help me find something, I'd be very grateful. I did wonder about a silk shirt, but hate all that bunching up around the waist. The skirt has lace and is made of silk, so very delicate.
I need to make a decision relatively soon so I can return the skirt if I can't get the right top
Any ideas?

I think I need something with arms - at least short sleeved. Could I get something that's more fitted/solid and sits on the top perhaps? I just hate the tucked in thing where it bunches up (sorry, realise am beginning to sound slightly obsessed Smile)

TBH I would send it back. It is very, very expensive, and looks like you could easily tear it, never mind the complications with finding a top to go with it.

PrimalLass · 09/10/2015 12:25

Yjerwise, it is shown with a very plain top here

Dowser · 09/10/2015 12:36

My opinion is you couldn't wear a fabric heavier on the top than the bottom, so needs to be something the same weight like a silk cami.

Be prepared to say you disagree.

I'm in the camp of why give yourself a load of hassle when a beautiful dress might work better.

I'm not a lover of separates for formal occasions but that's just me.

73dexter · 09/10/2015 12:41

Is it this skirt? I think a cream silk cami would go with it like in the pictures on the link.

FauxFox · 09/10/2015 12:45

I don't like it sorry. Is the front split up the thigh? Can't really tell from the pic how the layers work but I would not wear anything that revealing at a DSD's wedding really...and I can't imaging what top would go - what are the shop you got it from styling it with?

I would return it and get a dress.

Or if you really love it and it makes your heart happy keep it, wear it with a white vest, cropped denim jacket and lots of bangles as a casual summer skirt and get a different dress for the wedding.

Dowser · 09/10/2015 12:50

Certainly looks like it dexter.

Faints!

cashmerecardigans · 09/10/2015 16:06

Hi
Yes it is THAT skirt. I know it's hideously expensive, but it's a really special day. I actually really like to top shown, but maybe a bit too exposed for a wedding? It's not as revealing as it looks - there is lace at the front so nothing too revealing. It drops below the knee at the back. I am very fortunate to still have good legs, so I'm not too worried.
Dexter, I agree about fabric weight, hence I was thinking it had to be silk.
Thanks for the advice - I may send it back, as I certainly can't justify keeping it otherwise Smile

I also bought this, but it's not arrived yet. As you can see, I do like slightly asymmetric things!

I don't want to sound nasty OP, but I really would send it back. I think it's awful, I may be wrong and it looks fabulous on, but the picture does it no justice. I think the dress is lovely.

burnishedsilver · 09/10/2015 16:29

I think it would be very hard to make it work for a wedding. It could end up looking cheap despite being anything but.

NotTodaySatan · 09/10/2015 16:30

Wow.

£900 would get you an absolute show stopper of a dress.

It might be better in real life but that skirt doesn't look like it cost £90 never mind £900 Shock.

cashmerecardigans · 09/10/2015 19:04

The picture doesnt do it justice, it is really beuatiful and incredibly delicate, but I think I will send it back. It is way more than I normally spend, so it should be absolutely oerfect and I can't guarantee I'll feel that way without the right top.
Thanks again fo r your comments. I'll be back looking for a dress if the one above is no good either - I fear it is a bit too black and it may not be long emough, but we'll see.
I did see this too, but same hassle with a top

LittleRedSparke · 09/10/2015 19:06

oh, i don't like it either, how much did you pay for it?

I would be disappointed if i saw it in Monsoon, let alone it being "Original price £2,580"

LittleRedSparke · 09/10/2015 19:07

the black dress above is lovely though

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 10/10/2015 10:50

I'm another who thinks it's awful, I'm sure the fabric is beautiful etc. but it looks cheap. It looks awful on the model and even the top they've put it with doesn't look right with it.
For £1000 you can buy an amazing outfit, this isn't it.

tellmeofthetime · 10/10/2015 18:53

Two and a half thousand pounds ???? For a skirt ????
WTAF ?

Dowser · 10/10/2015 19:09

I think you've made the right decision op.

I can't even get excited about the colour (s) of it.

The dress is ok but again may be a bit too dark for a wedding.

Dowser · 10/10/2015 19:39

This is pretty and it looks like you like something a bit different. It's a maxi though

bishboschone · 10/10/2015 19:56

I don't like being mean but if you said that was from a charity shop and originally from per Una I wouldn't be surprised ! It looks cheap .. For £1000 you can get a showstopper !

Dowser · 10/10/2015 20:07

How about this for a bit of asymetricity
