What top with this skirt for wedding - need to decide if to keep or return?

Hi
I have just bought this skirt to wear at my DSDs wedding next year. I absolutely adore it, but I am struggling to know what top to wear? I am absolutely useless at buying tops and the skirt is really expensive, so I need to be sure it's worth having.
I would normally wear a dress due to said top uselessness, but if anyone can help me find something, I'd be very grateful. I did wonder about a silk shirt, but hate all that bunching up around the waist. The skirt has lace and is made of silk, so very delicate.
I need to make a decision relatively soon so I can return the skirt if I can't get the right top
Any ideas?

Hi Dowser, thanks again for these. I adore the Preen dress, btu they don;t have my suze, otherwsie I'd have gone for that. I picked up the Paul Smith one ictured upthread. It's actually really lovely, longer than I expected sp the floaty outer layer comes below my knee on the longer side. I'm not sure it's overly weddingy, but would be fine it a hat. I also saw this today - there's an extra 25% off this today.

Looking at it again, a bit short maybe? I just googled Raquel Welch at son's wedding, as mentioned earlier. Yikes - am really not hoping for that look!

Why do you want to wear a sexy 'look at me' outfit to your DSDs wedding? Confused every link you've posted is either semi sheer or very short or both! I'm sure these outfits are lovely but they are really, really not suitable for your DSDs wedding unless you want people to think you are trying to steal her thunder in some way imo - I wouldn't wear anything like that to a wedding as a guest let alone as a mother of the bride type person! Unless there is something I am missing about this situation please try and find something a bit more demure, I'm sure you won't regret it Smile

I'm sorry, OP, but I think the skirt in your OP is a tad slutty. The Burberry pink one is quite nice but a bit sugared almondy.

TheSwallowingHandmaiden · 11/10/2015 16:24

Oh, hell's teeth, that last one is hideous.

OK thanks for your comments. I'll retire gracefully at this point. Lots of food for thought for me, hopefully I'll find something that is a bit more me without resorting to matching dress and coat!

I'm not keen on the last one op. shame the other one wasn't in your size.

Good luck on your quest. I'd like to think you'd share what you settle on with us but as some of the comments are a bit OTT I can understand it if you don't.

A bride on her big day is going to have all eyes on her and the dress she chose. I m sure she has nothing to fear from her stepmum. In Raquel welch's case, I think the clue is in the name. She could have worn a black plastic sack and everyone's eyes would still have swivelled towards her to see if she still was wearing the sexy little number from 1 million years BC.

Once everyone had satisfied their curiosity I'm sure everyone would have settled down and put their attention on the happy couple saying their vows.

Here's a few suggestions here

Lol!

The Helen mirren one ...ye gods!

SouthWestmom · 11/10/2015 21:40

Op I know you've retired but I wanted to say dolce and gabbana do excellent lace type dresses if you are still looking. Apologies it was me making a light hearted reference to Raquel - more a friendly warning than a serious concern :-)

I am glad you sent the skirt back, I thought it was too fussy.

I live the white dress linked up thread with bright blue birds on it, not sure if it is wedding appropriate with it being white but I don't know all of the rules.

Good luck finding something that is you but perfect for the occasion too OP.

ToTheGups · 11/10/2015 22:06

Any good?

ToTheGups · 11/10/2015 22:12

I love this! www.net-a-porter.com/product/339139

Love that net a porter one Gups. It's very pretty. I like it more than the beigey toned one.

I hope op comes back and looks at the Helen mirren monstrosity.

Haven't managed to see the first one.
