with a silk vest to hide the 'naked' tummy bits and brightened up with a shrug and some gold shoes?

I hate wearing dresses....

shrug sounds shit

lighteningirl · 26/09/2015 21:34

Depends on your figure golden rule don't outshine the bride it's quite sexy but the vest and shrug should take care of that

LottieDoubtie · 26/09/2015 21:35

No, on the grounds that it's black.

DickDewy · 26/09/2015 21:36

It's OK, but not really wedding attire imo.

No to shrug - they always look bloody awful.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 26/09/2015 21:37

No because it's black. Also a vest might make it look bulky and will look weird under the cut out bit, and shrugs suck.

DragonsCanHop · 26/09/2015 21:38

No, it's black.

Will you have small children with you? It's very low cut so bending over etc is going to be an eye sore.

PlopsyWhopsy · 26/09/2015 21:39

You don't have to wear a dress to a wedding, trousers/top or skirt ok. I don't think with a shrug it would look weddingy

Curiouserandcuriouser30 · 26/09/2015 21:40

I like the jumpsuit itself, but it depends on the wedding. If it's a trendy, modern sort of wedding, then yes. If it's very tradition then you might feel out of place.

nothinglooksgood · 26/09/2015 21:43

hmm.. it's actually a deep plum/purple, I'm trying to tone in with bridal party in dusky pink. I'm tallish and slenderish but hate arms hence the shrug - which is bolero style, deep/dark red.

This is the other option - dress:www.wallis.co.uk/en/wluk/product/dresses-265974/maxi-dresses-266010/plum-necklace-maxi-dress-4643649?bi=0&ps=20

I like it and wore a.black jumpsuit to a summer wedding this year! Nothing dreadful happened! I am not sure about a shrug though! Perhaps a cream smart jacket would look good?

nothinglooksgood · 26/09/2015 21:46

Why is everyone so against shrugs? I can't show my arms! I thought they were pretty commonplace at weddings..... Confused

BrendaandEddie · 26/09/2015 21:49

THATS THE ISSUE

you want to look naff - bung on a fascinator and a shrug and shoes you cant walk in

What about this? ( with a shrug of course!)

Def won't be wearing a fascinator! OK, maybe will rethink the shrug....Blush

I like that second one (wouldn't wear it myself but would admire it on someone else) and think it would look great for a wedding.

DickDewy · 26/09/2015 21:53

No to shrug!

They are the wedding go-to item of the middle aged frump with ham arms - and I am sure that's not the look you're aiming for Grin

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 26/09/2015 21:54

If you can't show your arms, you need to pick an outfit that isn't sleeveless. No to shrugs. Never.

MrsHathaway · 26/09/2015 21:54

What about a sheer tasselled shawl thing - people have been wearing them over a vest with skinnies. Skims arms you're sensitive about without the frumpy cover up of a shrug, and without losing the silhouette of the jumpsuit. In a contrasting colour could be very stylish.

And when you're drunk enough later on you'll abandon it and look hawt for the dancing.

mewkins · 26/09/2015 21:54

I tried on that second one in search of my jumpsuit. It is very VERY unforgiving !!

thehypocritesoaf · 26/09/2015 21:54

If you're tall and slender, you will look lovely in a jumpsuit. Go for it.

Chippednailvarnish · 26/09/2015 21:57

Why buy something that has to then be added to, in order to cover up your arms?

You would do much better to buy something that has been designed with sleeves. And it will avoid the "trying to piss while pissed" issue I have with jumpsuits Grin

SwedishEdith · 26/09/2015 21:57

Can't you wear some sort of velvet jacket with taht -looks sort of 70s.

BrendaandEddie · 26/09/2015 21:57

i dont like dresses - am off to a wedding soon in a matching top and pencil skirt
Looks like a dress

nothinglooksgood · 26/09/2015 22:00

mewkins - that was what I was worried about - the material does look like it would be unforgiving and I do need some forgiving!!

I also have this maxi dress ( it's purple not black) www.wallis.co.uk/en/wluk/product/dresses-265974/maxi-dresses-266010/plum-necklace-maxi-dress-4643649?bi=1&ps=20

God - I hate my arms - and legs for that matter, always have, nothing to do with being middle aged Sad.
This is a special family wedding and just want to look and feel nice....

This is the shrug I had in mind - is it truly horrendous???
