Until you take a 'selfie' You don't really realise just how lopsided you face is, do you?

Blimey Shock

I'm not a natural selfie person. In fact, I hate being in pictures at all, though I have tried to get better at that since becoming a parent (for morbid reasons). I just took a photo of myself to send to DH (not one of those), I've had my hair done and wanted to show him (he's working away at the mo). Crikey O'Reilly I look wonky - one eye is bigger, more open and higher than the other and my smile is wonky too. Not noticeable in the mirror and hasn't been commented on by others but I seem to manage to capture it in full technicolor HD when I (rarely) photograph myself.

Are you the same or are you all visions of perfection?

Shock felix!

I've just put my face through an app, as suggested up thread. Hmm. I look like ugly twins. The right side of my face is so much slimmer and more defined than my left side. My cheek bone is more prominent cheek, the eye socket is deeper & my face is narrower on the left. No wonder my eye looks so weird on that side.

Oh and I have two partings on one version because it clearly wasn't parted exactly centrally, in line with my nose & Cupid's bow.

My selfies are shit! My face is like a ball where my forehead curves out loads, i have crab eyes with massive bags and duck lips but without even doing the duck pout wtf! I have similar probs when i go out tbh! At home im looking ok, yet i can barely look in a mirror in public toilets as its like ive had a frigging face transplant and id rather not acknowledge it!

Now, do i resolve this by staying home or just take my bathroom mirror out with me to prove to people what i actually look like! Grin

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 10/06/2015 22:57

We're all loons Grin

So your selfie face is the one that everyone else sees?

I'm afraid current research is proving inconclusive on that detail Felix.

What we do know is that your mirror selfie looks more like you think you look like than your normal selfie. Which selfie is the selfie that others see, we don't yet know. I'm not sure I want to know. And just to confuse it even more like Marmite said what about a photo of you taken by someone else? Is that how you really look? Confused

LD29 · 10/06/2015 23:32

How do u take a mirror selfie Blush

Honeymoonmummy · 10/06/2015 23:39

I am so completely freaked out by this thread. I feel like my whole life has been a lie Hmm < wonky face

Blueberrymuffint0p · 11/06/2015 06:54

Try filming yourself talking, now that will freak you out even more! I've got one eye about 3 times bigger than the other,I talk out of one side of my mouth, blink too much-it's scarey! Nothing good can come of these camera phones!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 11/06/2015 08:22

Oh no, blueberry. A new horror to add to the paranoia. I'm going to burn my phone.

HemanOrSheRa · 11/06/2015 08:32

With great difficulty LD. You have to hold the camera right up close to the mirror but sort of angle it out of the way of your face. Gaze off into the mid distance and snap the picture.

What kind of fresh hell is filming yourself?! Shock.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 11/06/2015 08:35

It makes me wonder how these 'YouTubers' (DD is obsessed) do it. I would edit the film down to (literally) nothing.

OP posts:
SurelyNotEh · 11/06/2015 08:35

Tried the video.

OMG MY TEETH!!!

My teeth are slightly crooked (despite braces). Or so I thought. In reality I look like a fucking horse! Shock

HellKitty · 11/06/2015 08:37

I have a FB friend (friend is pushing it) who changes her profile picture every 3-4 days, sometimes twice a day. Always the same angle, slight head tilt and sly grin. If it doesn't get enough likes she changes it. She's a 47 yr old single mum, very normal looking. How has she got the confidence?! I only want one where I don't look like I've come fourth in a gurning competition Confused

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 11/06/2015 08:38

It's a cruel world.

It must be the angle we're holding the camera at?

OP posts:
SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 11/06/2015 08:41

if it doesn't get enough likes she changes it

Somewhat needy*

*realises that's a bit rich as started a thread seeking reassurance re wonky face.

OP posts:
HemanOrSheRa · 11/06/2015 08:42

Or the other way of doing it is to use the normal camera, stand it front of a mirror and hold the camera up to take the photo. As if it was someone else taking it, IYSWIM. You can see your face in the mirror so arrange your wonky features in what looks normal, look into the camera lens and snap picture. It's not a mirror image, but something to do with the quality of the image the normal lens produces rather than the 'switchy' doodad one.

Or alternatively, like beavington says, take down your bathroom mirror and carry it around with you, so people can see what you really look like.

Ledkr · 11/06/2015 08:45

Can anyone explain why I look swollen and puffy in photos then?
It's soooo depressing. I look like a big red cauliflower head Shock

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 11/06/2015 08:45

I'm having a mask made of my mirror selfie face, as we speak.

OP posts:
HellKitty · 11/06/2015 08:47

SqueezyCheese - VERY needy! I was trying to be polite Wink

Ledkr · 11/06/2015 08:51

Is this why the young uns only take half a face selfies?
I was searching for a head shot of dd the other day and there are none of them that are a full face Grin

HemanOrSheRa · 11/06/2015 08:53

I just want one photo too. Just one. It's not too much to ask, is it?

mowglik · 11/06/2015 08:54

some of these responses made me lol! Very funny thread.. It's funny because it's true though :/

My face looks like it's melted on one side sometimes in pics Hmm in other pics it looks fine??

I do wonder if we look wonky to ourselves but ok to others, my DH looks slightly wonky in the mirror but looks perfectly symmetrical to me irl..

Wishful80smontage · 11/06/2015 08:56

This thread is making me feel so much better thought I was the only one! Look fine in the mirror but in pictures my god!

HappenstanceMarmite · 11/06/2015 09:00

This is getting out of hand. I now feel the fear and confusion I experienced during the Transition stage of labour FFS! maybe less messy

urbinosparrot · 11/06/2015 09:09

OMG, until reading this it had never even occurred to me that the image I see in the mirror is the other way round to what other people see
