Until you take a 'selfie' You don't really realise just how lopsided you face is, do you?

Blimey Shock

I'm not a natural selfie person. In fact, I hate being in pictures at all, though I have tried to get better at that since becoming a parent (for morbid reasons). I just took a photo of myself to send to DH (not one of those), I've had my hair done and wanted to show him (he's working away at the mo). Crikey O'Reilly I look wonky - one eye is bigger, more open and higher than the other and my smile is wonky too. Not noticeable in the mirror and hasn't been commented on by others but I seem to manage to capture it in full technicolor HD when I (rarely) photograph myself.

Are you the same or are you all visions of perfection?

I read once that kate moss had a symmetrical face and thats why she photographed good.

Cocolepew · 10/06/2015 18:20

Daily Mail gubbins
Haven't read it but its about symmetrical faces.

HemanOrSheRa · 10/06/2015 18:22

It's very odd, isn't it squeezy? I've put my make up on, done my hair and thought "This is it, my selfie face" I take the photo and I still look weird! Perhaps I really do look weird? I'm convinced I don't look like that in RL. No one runs away from me shrieking at my weird big, wonky shaped face.

Are you suuuurrreee that works ali?

Purplehonesty · 10/06/2015 18:35

I look wonky in the mirror - one eyebrow is higher than the other and one eye too. So each day I try to draw my eyebrows in to make them match. it doesn't really work.

Dh said to me yesterday "ooh you look weird in that mirror, good job you don't look like that in real life"

So I don't actuLly look like that to everyone else, just me. Wish he had told me that 15 years ago!

HemanOrSheRa · 10/06/2015 19:24

Oh! It works Ali! Try it squeezy! I'm going to try it again tomorrow when I'm freshly made up. I'm looking as rough as a badgers arse now, hair and make up wise. It's been a difficult day.

But now I'm confused. Which face is the face that other people see? The selfie in the mirror face or the big, weird, wonky one? Confused

ItalianLemons · 10/06/2015 19:33

I've read about symmetry being the key to beauty too. I'm well lopsided, me. One eyebrow and eye much lower than the other.

Itsalldramarama · 10/06/2015 19:40

Oooo !! I thought it was just me !! Selfies are hideous ! Wonky eyes and lopsided lips! Even one jowl is more droopy than the other !!!! Not evident So much in mirror or when others take my photo !!! Prefer the mirror version but it's all lies :( sob ...,,,

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 10/06/2015 19:41

Heman I reckon the selfie in the mirror face

I had to get new passport photos taken last week. Straight to camera, no smiling. I am quite lopsided.

ggirl · 10/06/2015 19:47

hahah this thread has made me lol
I have always been horrified when I've taken a selfie and deleted as quick as possible..my face is horrendously wonky with one enormous eye!!!

HemanOrSheRa · 10/06/2015 19:51

This thread has cheered me up immensely Grin. I'm 43 and really shouldn't be worried about selfies.

I'll tell you what, though, I am DEFINITELY getting my eyebrows tattooed in at the first opportunity!

HappenstanceMarmite · 10/06/2015 20:42

What about the face in photos taken by someone else though? Is THAT my real face (the one everyone else sees?!). Or is the real me the selfie? this is like being on acid FFS

KCAMum · 10/06/2015 21:02

Hurrah I am not alone! My DD (10) looks beautiful in selfies, but always twists her mouth to the side, I thought this was a thing, but maybe it helps to counteract the wonkiness. I may try this just for pure experimentation purposes though!

ggirl · 10/06/2015 21:03

I am crying with laughter here....especially @ like being on acid ffs

HemanOrSheRa · 10/06/2015 21:05

I have no idea Marmite. The whole thing has completely messed with my head.

I look nothing like I think I do in a selfie. I look more like I think I do in a mirror selfie. And completely different in a photo taken by someone else.

Also, I can't get my head around why other people I know well look normal in selfies not taken in a mirror yet I look like a wonky big fat head. I know I'm no oil painting but I'm not that bad.

Perhaps MN is full of deluded wonky faced women Confused.

ItalianLemons · 10/06/2015 21:08

Hahaha I love the acid reference!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 10/06/2015 21:30

perhaps MN is full of deluded wonky faced women Confused

I think it might be Shock. We're all wandering about thinking we look normal, maybe even y'know quite pretty actually but actually we look like the love children of Gollum and Salad Fingers with our lopsided features, ginormous noses and asymmetrical eyes. Woe

OP posts:
SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 10/06/2015 21:33

Mirror selfie me looks normal. but yy to the existential crisis that is not knowing which version is the truth

OP posts:
daftyburd · 10/06/2015 21:47

Yes! It's my mouth that looks really weird in selfies. I have a lopsided mouth. It does not droop like that in the mirror and when I asked DP about it he looked confused. I have actually looked at semi permanent lip liner to even up my face. One eye slightly bigger too.

lucysmam · 10/06/2015 22:11

I have never taken a selfie Shock

I'll be experimenting after my haircut in the morning now Grin

WhatsGoingOnEh · 10/06/2015 22:14

My face is hideously lopsided -- my nose veers off in one direction, and my teeth in the opposite direction. It's awful. I noticed it years ago doing the "reflect your reflection" thing with two mirrors; have regretted it ever since.

ashtrayheart · 10/06/2015 22:17

I have one eye higher than the other in a selfie Confused I look like a mutant from the Hills have eyes Grin well almost

GaryBaldy · 10/06/2015 22:34

Thank goodness I thought it was just me.

One eyebrow higher than the other, one eye bigger than the other, nose looks bigger, cheeks more jowly.

HemanOrSheRa · 10/06/2015 22:36

I'm happy to take the mirror selfie as the definitive truth squeezy. Although I look disconcertingly like my Mum, at least my face doesn't look like it does in the back of a spoon Confused.

For the love of God lucy take your first ever selfie IN THE MIRROR as Ali suggested. You will horrify and shock yourself otherwise.

After extensive research this evening I have come to the conclusion that in order for other people to look completely normal in a selfie, they must practice for fecking hours! I think I have perfected a grimace that unwonks my mouth but I have a demented look in my wonky eyes when I'm doing it.

Felix75 · 10/06/2015 22:38

So your selfie face is the one everyone else sees? Oh no..... One eye droops a bit, particularly when I'm tired. Last time I was in an a&e getting checked over, a doctor kept asking me about it (possibly to check I wasn't having a stroke) and I was like ffs it's just my face!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 10/06/2015 22:40

I think the selfie fans take millions, choose the best one and then filter/photoshop the loving bejesus out of it, tbh.
