What do you pay for a cut and blow dry? (And where are you)

I'm going back to a salon nearby tomorrow and it's going to cost me £51. The last cut I had cost £25 but I wasnt 100% happy with it, where as the £51 place gave me exactly what I wanted, hence I'm going again.
My mother seems to think that £51 is a 'ridiculous' price to pay around here, West Yorkshire, but I didn't think it was really that bad - you get what you pay for etc!
What do you pay?

I can pay 25 with a regular stylist or 45 with salon owner/'art director'. Outskirts of Birmingham.

notquitegrownup2 · 18/02/2015 17:03

Think it starts at £45 here in the South East so I only ever have a wetcut - I can blow dry it myself before I go out. I wish I had been a hairdresser (or better still, salon owner - I do know the stylists don't get £150+ per hour.) I love playing with the dss hair: it's very therapeutic - and my hairdresser still drives a far far better car than I can ever dream of.

LaCerbiatta · 18/02/2015 17:04

£40 in Cambridge with whatever stylist is available.

bonzo77 · 18/02/2015 17:05

44 for a not-junior but not-top stylist. North London.

Goldrill · 18/02/2015 17:06

£35 Carlisle. With varying results!

Germgirl · 18/02/2015 17:10

£60, SE London. One of the top stylists, they're the only ones I trust. I hate having my hair done but at least by going to them I take away the fear that it'll be ruined.

nooyearnooname · 18/02/2015 17:13

£80, London. I have 'difficult' hair and it took me years to find someone that could make it look decent, so I'm happy to pay the price and just go a little less often!

newpup · 18/02/2015 17:15

£30 for cut and blow dry, £70 for cut and colour BUT my friend owns the salon so I get a small discount. I think it would cost £37 for a cut and blow dry otherwise.

fairgame · 18/02/2015 17:16

£38 in south yorkshire for a normal stylist (can't remember the fancy job title) at a salon that has been on TV dontchaknow Wink
I think £51 is expensive for yorkshire.

dayslikethis · 18/02/2015 17:17

Think it's £63 at my salon at home in Aberdeen - a top-end-of-middle range stylist if that makes sense! Prices at the salon range from about £40 for the cheapest to about £75 I think for the most senior stylist for a basic cut and blow dry.

Here in Texas I pay about $70 which is about £45 and that is considered quite expensive here.

dayslikethis · 18/02/2015 17:20

I tell a lie - just looked on the salon website and cheapest is £31 and most expensive is £67. Mine is £61 - drat that lovely hairdresser getting promoted - I hadn't realised she had become so senior - I knew her prices had gone up, but hadn't clicked that she was near the top now.

dancingwitch · 18/02/2015 17:20

I'm in SE & haven't paid less than £50. Local Toni & Guy and similar places are that just for juniors and £70+ for a decent stylist at the weekend. I now have a lady who comes to the house & I pay her £15 & hope she's having a good day as she either cuts my hair brilliantly or terribly.

magimedi · 18/02/2015 17:23

East Sussex 7 pay £45 for top stylist - and I love him dearly. He is a great cutter & I can't bear my hair not being 'right'.

marymcb · 18/02/2015 17:23

I've got a hair appointment tomorrow, and expect it'll cost about £60. I'm in Edinburgh and accept I go to one of the more expensive salons but I really like the way my hairdresser cuts my hair! Decided it's worth paying for....

MTWTFSS · 18/02/2015 17:23

Statford Westfield Supercuts on Saturday charged me £29.-- (don't remember how many pence) for a wash, cut, and blow dry :)

Chubbychopsmolly · 18/02/2015 17:24

£16-£20 belfast

Chubbychopsmolly · 18/02/2015 17:25

Wow im glad I live were I do

MrsTawdry · 18/02/2015 17:27

30 pounds in Cheshire.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 18/02/2015 17:27

62 quid. Edinburgh

Only1scoop · 18/02/2015 17:28

50 pounds staffs....

And to be quite honest since it's gone up again I may go elsewhere

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 18/02/2015 17:34

About 50 quid including tip in South London - reasonably classy salon to it looks like I'm getting a good deal. 51 quid strikes me as high for Yorkshire, but if it's the cut you want and you can afford it then it's worth it.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 18/02/2015 17:38

DPs dad is a hairdresser so £0. Thanks FIL!

Prior to that, I think I paid £15 for a cut - but I basically have a blunt cut so not too taxing!

LBOCS · 18/02/2015 17:40

£35 in South East London. I resent paying any more than that. It's just HAIR!

lotsofcheese · 18/02/2015 17:41

£30 in Edinburgh (Stockbridge) been going to the same guy for about 10 years now; his prices gave not gone up.
