What do you pay for a cut and blow dry? (And where are you)

I'm going back to a salon nearby tomorrow and it's going to cost me £51. The last cut I had cost £25 but I wasnt 100% happy with it, where as the £51 place gave me exactly what I wanted, hence I'm going again.
My mother seems to think that £51 is a 'ridiculous' price to pay around here, West Yorkshire, but I didn't think it was really that bad - you get what you pay for etc!
What do you pay?

£42 in Fife - salon owner. I started going on a recommendation from a mumsnetter, my previous hairdresser in Perth was charging over £50 for half an hour of not paying attention to what I wanted! New one is brilliant Grin.

Cut it myself (MN cut) and DH trims up the back. I've pretty long hair, so this is low risk but generally works really well anyway. I love it. Takes 5 minutes as opposed to at least an hour at the hairdressers and is free! At first I used to try and cut through pony tail with some hairdressing scissors but they didn't get through the tick wedge of hair easily enough so bought some heavy duty kitchen scissors which tackle it nicely! I'd never have guessed I'd be doing this years ago but used to hate going to hairdressers and sitting there for ages.

capsium · 18/02/2015 17:47

Thick not tick. Typo.

BackforGood · 18/02/2015 17:48

£20 if she just comes to do me (is a mobile) but it doesn't go up if she does a trim for any of the (teenage) dc at the same time.

£30 near York for the salon owner.

GraysAnalogy · 18/02/2015 17:48

iwantgin · 18/02/2015 17:51

£12, Vidal Sassoon Academy, central London. But it takes about 3 hours.

ohtheholidays · 18/02/2015 18:00

About £80,I'm in Berkshire,the SE.

Really lovely hairdressers, get a lovely head massage wash, condition, cut and blow dry for that. All the children get they're hair done there as well.

It costs a fair whack when all 6 of us get our hair done at the same time.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 18/02/2015 18:01

At our salon it starts at £30 with a graduate, who are fully qualified stylists but have under 3 years experience, up to £50 with our salon owner. We do loyalty cards and free fringe trims/dry micro trims for life. Our juniors do free cuts, £15 for colours and £30 full heads of highlights, I'm in West Yorkshire. Smile

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 18/02/2015 18:02

£37 for a Senior Stylist, South Staffordshire.

It is more expensive than other local salons, but the results are so much better too. I just don't go very often!

And fringe trims are free for regular customers.

GertrudePerkins · 18/02/2015 18:02

£26 IIRC - surburb of a big city in the North

If I got the tram 4 or 5 stops into the city centre it would cost twice or even three times that. I'd be happy to pay city centre prices if I wasn't happy with the local salon, but luckily it's ace.

Toooldtobearsed · 18/02/2015 18:05

£45 in Durham, but I am always happy with it. Same salon, different hair stylist, was £34, but was not overjoyed with the cut.

Ragwort · 18/02/2015 18:10

Nothing - I go for the 'trainee model nights' - luckily I am not vain. I cannot imagine spending £80 on a hair cut Shock.

QueenofLouisiana · 18/02/2015 18:54

£45 tomorrow will do cut, colour and blow dry me and get DS a trim.

I go to her house so I have to wash me own hair, but at those prices I would wash her floor if she asked Grin. I love my hairdresser!

Oh, we take lunch and share it as I oh with a group of friends and our DS's. So add another £6 on for that I suppose.

QueenofLouisiana · 18/02/2015 18:55

Wash my own hair!

lastlines · 18/02/2015 18:57

OP far better to spend £50 on a cut you love. And the better cuts grow out really well.

ouryve · 18/02/2015 18:58

£30. In the Northeast (Saks). Some of the big chains are about £40 or more, but I've had some awful cuts with them.

I think it's a case of finding a stylist you click with, whatever you pay for it. If I ended up having to pay £50 for a decent cut, I probably would.

hiccupgirl · 18/02/2015 19:01

Essex, £50 for cut and blow dry and then extra £21 for highlights in their 25% off colour sale every 4 months.

Used to be less but the stylist keeps getting promoted.

poisonedbypen · 18/02/2015 19:08

Buckinghamshire- used to pay about£50+ in the salon but now she comes to me & I pay £25. Think husband & teenagers are £15 each. Works for us as she ISA great hairdresser

thornrose · 18/02/2015 19:13

£22.50 for cut and blow in W Sussex out of town salon with junior but very good stylist.

My hair is dead simple to do though and I always tip her a fiver!

PrimalLass · 18/02/2015 19:13

£42. Village in Fife but very respected salon.

MrsMarigold · 18/02/2015 19:18

£51 is that Toni & Guy - that's what their top stylists charge. My best ever hairdresser charged £35 but he won't come to north London sob.

whattodoforthebest2 · 18/02/2015 19:25

Senior stylist charges £47, but I get 25% off for being in their (free) VIP club, so £35. Good place in Surrey, but another branch I went to was awful.

Nancery · 18/02/2015 19:57

Thanks for your replies. I agree, if it is a good cut and you can afford it then it's worth it. I got exactly what I asked for too, and it grows out beautifully. While I realise it might be possible to find someone else who's cheaper, that in itself could work out very expensive!
