Any interesting hair styles for curly hair?

My hair is a few inches past shoulder length (and about shoulder length when curly - 3b/c curls). I'm going to get my hair cut by Matthew James at the end of the month and was wondering if there's anything more interesting I could do with the style. I'm early thirties and feel like I've had the same style all my adult life! Does anyone have a nice, interesting style I could use as inspiration?

So I've been scalped basically.
Went in with one length shoulder length half head highlights.
Asked for a trim, now I'm not saying it was perfect in the first picture but the 2nd is what was done to me and the 3rd is another hairdressers attempt to sort it all out.
Three years ago my hair was shoulder length and this just keeps on happening to me !!!
What a fcuking mess ... Any suggestions ?

I think the 3rd pic looks much better than the others Smile.
I appreciate you may not agree, but it does look lovely in that pic.

Op, have you washed it at home yet? I find my curls behave very differently with different products.

Taystee · 28/02/2015 20:26

Yep I've washed at home and styled with my usual products. The curls feel lovely and healthy and bouncy but they've shrunk so much and I look like I have a tiny little afro which would be cool if I had the bone structure for it, but I don't think it suits my fat face

You have a very pretty face, I am sure ypu can pull an afro off.

have you tried picking it with an afto comb to create some some volume?

Taystee · 01/03/2015 11:17

So I've styled it a bit different today so it's not quite as short... Matthew said I should try to get more volume on top but I think it looked funny like that. Maybe I'm not used to it. Anyway this is how I've done it. Is it too flat? And be brutal, is it too short??

I think the curls look amazing - really cute and I love, love the fringy-ringletty thing. I am no expert, but actually I think he may be right - a little bit more height at the top would work - even if it just a few loose, random curls giving the overall impression of height iyswim. You look gorgeous.

Beautiful

I think you need a bit of height on top yes...but it's not awful like that either.

And no way do you look like a man, your face is totally pretty enough for short hair.

chocjunkie · 01/03/2015 19:50

I really like it. The shorter hair really suits you. Very pretty.

I've been following this thread as I have recently started out on the curly girl method and am now in need of a good haircut.

I'd love to travel up to Matthew James (I'm about 1.5 hours away from Birmingham) but am a bit scared he'd cut too much off. At the moment it is shoulder length and I normally wear it tied back as bushes out into a very wide triangle otherwise (I'd describe it as 'fuzzy' more than curly).

I do think your hair looks lovely OP and the new style really does suit you. I'd love something like that, but there is no way mine would do that.
