Any interesting hair styles for curly hair?

My hair is a few inches past shoulder length (and about shoulder length when curly - 3b/c curls). I'm going to get my hair cut by Matthew James at the end of the month and was wondering if there's anything more interesting I could do with the style. I'm early thirties and feel like I've had the same style all my adult life! Does anyone have a nice, interesting style I could use as inspiration?

Trumpton that cut is great. I'd love that, but my hair just goes bigger...

Why are all these curly hairstyles so short? Is it because the OP has short hair, or because curly people should only have short hair?

seaweedhead · 11/02/2015 13:14

Mine's a bit like that Trumpton. Only not quite as thick. I love it, its very low-maintenance.

Trumpton · 11/02/2015 17:05

I must point out that the photo is NOT me, just the style I like !

goodasitgets · 11/02/2015 19:11

Thank you gatekeeper Blush

I had mine a lot longer, like middle of my back length. The curls didn't look as good, it was dry and a pain to maintain hence the chop

museumum · 11/02/2015 19:52

For me I did shoulder length for years. Casual and hippyish. I Thought I couldn't do shorter and more styled till I found this cut so am a bit evangelical about it.

Apologies for being a broken record but Carrie satc has so many gorgeous curly haircuts

Taystee · 11/02/2015 20:14

Thanks for all the pictures. Some of them are lovely but my hair is proper curly so wouldn't necessarily suit those styles. Will have to see if I can find a photo to post.

Same style for all three but from different angles! I've had a graduated bob for about three years now, I love it.

This wens like a good place to ask this - has anyone's curly hair changed a lot since having children? I used to have fairly tight, almost corkscrew curls mixed with slightly looser ones in my twenties. Admittedly it was slowly getting a bit more relaxed anyway but since having a baby not only has it got much harder to make it curl properly, and maintain it, But it's got a lot thinner/less voluminous and I've have loads of fine new growth all around my hairline. It's very annoying, particularly as I'd spent a lifetime working out how to style it just right!

JackieTheFart · 12/02/2015 09:58

It's taken six years (and another baby) for my hair to recover from the hair loss after having my twins. It's just as thick now but far less curly.

In the pics above, my hair used to be like the redhead, now it's more like Halle Berry.

I've only just started wearing it in loose tonged curls but when I compare my natural hair to pre-kids, it's so relaxed now!

SirVixofVixHall · 12/02/2015 10:13

Laquila my hair is thinner and less curly since having babies, my dd is 7 now, but it hasn't returned to the same level of curl. I have a thyroid problem which hasn't helped. It is so annoying, as now it is curlier in some places than others, and hasn't much lift at the top which makes those pretty bobbed shapes look so good. I have a sort of rough chin length bob but it looks a mess pretty much all the time. I don't know what to do with it, would happily pay more for a nice cut.

Taystee · 13/02/2015 12:51

Just took a photo and it's made me realise just how thin and stringy my hair looks since having a baby. It used to be much fuller and I had more defined ringlets. Do I grow, cut or what to sort this mess out.

Taystee your hair is really pretty! Mine was as curly as yours is, but is a lot less curly now. I also think my ringlets are less defined. I hate it as the curls were the only thing saving my hair as it was fine to start with, although I had loads more of it. The curls gave it oomph.

chocjunkie · 13/02/2015 17:22

Hold old is your baby? I had awful hairloss about 3-6 months PP and it took a while to grow back, think.about 2 years. But it came back as thick as ever. I would be tempted to cut it shorter whilst it is so thin. Y

Your ringlets are lovely Smile

Taystee · 13/02/2015 18:27

He's 18 months now, I think the hairloss happened around 4 or 5 months. I didn't realise having children could ruin your hair quite so badly

I need this man for my curls! Can I ask how much a cut is?

Elfina · 13/02/2015 18:54

I thought he was in London! SOBBING!!

Taystee · 13/02/2015 19:01

I think it's 60pounds. London to Birmingham is very quick on the train and the salon is right by the station.

Adds to the price though, and would take a day realistically Hmm

Laquila · 13/02/2015 21:03

He's great, and the salon is lovely.

Taystre we have similar hair, I think. Glad to know its not just me with the post-baby hair distress!

Taystee · 27/02/2015 19:20

Had my hair cut today with Matthew. He cut the straggly bits off and I've got a little bit of a fringe now too. Pretty happy with it I think. Need to try styling it myself to see what happens. It looks quite short bit healthier at least!

Yikes, having a major crisis of confidence now. The cut has made my hair sooo much curlier. It's really very very short and I'm worried I look like a man Sad
