Any interesting hair styles for curly hair?

My hair is a few inches past shoulder length (and about shoulder length when curly - 3b/c curls). I'm going to get my hair cut by Matthew James at the end of the month and was wondering if there's anything more interesting I could do with the style. I'm early thirties and feel like I've had the same style all my adult life! Does anyone have a nice, interesting style I could use as inspiration?

I have 3c curls. Had them past shoulder (all same lengh) for years. I chopped off quiet a bit and have a fringe now. Looks cool Grin.

You should try Pinterest for some ideas. I am getting my hair cut on Wednesday and have been trawling through it for ideas.

LiDLrichardsPistachioSack · 08/02/2015 14:20

Google Yasmin Sewell!

chocjunkie · 08/02/2015 14:22

My haircut is now a bit like that in the end of the clip.

WrappedInABlankie · 08/02/2015 14:25

relaxing? Brazilian blow dry?

I have the same type and only relax my hair lol

chocjunkie · 08/02/2015 14:32

You don't book with Matthew James to get
a Brazilian blow dry I would think Wink

WrappedInABlankie · 08/02/2015 14:49

Haha I have no idea who Matthew James is Grin

chocjunkie · 08/02/2015 15:15

I think he is THE curly hair dresser in the UK. Only read about him though. Never been but its all about the curl Grin

WrappedInABlankie · 08/02/2015 15:20

Oh haha then he wouldn't be doing the blow dry Grin

I hate my curls so have them straightened so I can tuck it behind my ear with out it being all bushy haha

Taystee · 08/02/2015 16:42

Googled yasmin sewell and love it. If only I had the bone structure height and thinness to pull it off!

Chocjunkie, how are you finding the fringe? Do you wear your hair down every day or can you tie it up or pull it back on a bad hair day? Did you go to Matthew James?

He's got an Instagram account. Why not look at it for inspiration of cuts he has done? It's matt.james.hair or search #curlbrittania

chocjunkie · 08/02/2015 16:58

I really like it. Makes a real change from the much longer hair. Also takes a lot less time to dry. Hair is still just about long enough to make a bun on a bad hair day. My hair structure is very much like on the video (but shorter on sides/back) and not at all like Yasmin Sewells (I would not call that curly even by my standards Grin)

No, did not go to MJ. He is probably the only one I would trust enough. I have a DIY haircut - deva method after watching hours of youtube videos.

goodasitgets · 08/02/2015 22:02

I have an angled bob so shorter at back, longer at front

Taystee · 09/02/2015 21:06

Thanks I will mention angled bob / curly fringe to him and see what he thinks. I'm always trying to grow my hair and am never successful. Maybe I should just give in to a shorter style?
Love this but my hair is more fine and flyaway than her amazing curls m.youtube.com/watch?v=hkMZkinLlwE

I've got a graduated Bob. Shorter at the back, longer at the front. It's great - finally feel like I actually have a hairstyle rather than hair that's just there. And it dries so much quicker!

Laquila · 09/02/2015 22:17

"A hairstyle rather than hair that's just there" - I would LOVE that! But I can't seem to achieve it, not even after a visit to Matt James :( I don't blame him though, he's very good.

Taystee · 09/02/2015 22:54

My DH said I might look like Brian May with a fringe...

Goodasitgets- is that you? That's an awesome picture. Boobalicious!

goodasitgets · 10/02/2015 00:14

Blush Yes it's me, thank you!

Trumpton · 10/02/2015 05:05

This is the one I am working towards. My hairdresser is very excited about the Deva method and is doing a fab job on my hair.

Just googled Yasmin Sewel and she looks amazing, but I suspect she would look amazing with a cat on her head. I definitely don't have the bone structure! Alex Polizzi's hair poses a similar problem, I feel.

daimbardiva · 10/02/2015 17:15

Definitely have a look at Matt James' Instagram - loads of inspiration on there. In fact I wish I'd looked before I got my hair cut yesterday!!!!

wildernessagogo · 10/02/2015 17:20

I specialise in bush. Particularly attractive on a drizzly day...

MaybeDoctor · 11/02/2015 09:22

For years I have just blow-dried the fringe smooth and let the rest be loose waves/curls. I have been growing it and think it is better/more attractive - it grows v slowly so I was super-chuffed when someone said it was looking long and 'good' the other day.

I have been doing DIY cuts for about 6 months - fed up with hairdressers! But recently I have been using a BBH on second-day hair to do smooth-with-flicks.

I have also begun doing a low roll at the nape of the neck for fancy occasions. Divide hair into two pigtails either side of head, twist a la Princess Leia but pin on the back not the sides!

flanjabelle · 11/02/2015 09:34

I love this messy curly style, is it your sort of thing?
