before I make a boot decision I cant afford to regret...

what boots am I supposed to wear with straight leg jeans? I have a pair of below knee boots which are fine but would like another pair, I'm thinking ankle boots are for skinnys which at size 16 I'm to 'parsnippy' for so I stick with straight leg cut.

I'm thinking a mid calf boot would be alright... yay or nay?

How are you planning to wear them? If the boots are under the jeans you won't be able to tell how long they are.

kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 09:51

doh, good point chumhum

a better question would be, are ankle boots for skinny's only (since any other length doesn't matter)?

OP posts:
kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 09:54

I quite like the look of these --and the 20% off that expires today, but I don't wear skinny's since going from a 14 to a 16 even then it probably wasn't pretty-- and I am never going to set the fashion world alight but don't want to look really stupid!

I would get a pair of chelsea boots to wear under your jeans. I don't think straight leg jeans really work tucked in. The ones you have linked to would be fine under straight jeans.

Eminybob · 12/10/2014 10:00

Biker boots with jeans tucked in?

Chumhum · 12/10/2014 10:05

I think the clue is in the title of those boots, agree with Dexter go for Chelsea boots.

peasandlove · 12/10/2014 10:17

aren't straight leg jeans just skinnies with a wider leg below the calf? I don't like the boots you've linked at all. Also don't like mid calf boots either and would be strange with a non skinny jean stuffed into them.
I"d go ankle or Chelsea myself

peasandlove · 12/10/2014 10:19

this model is at least a 16 and that skinny/boot combo looks fine, on trend so to speak

asos

kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 10:36

I've had a look on a few sites, Clarks, brantano and asos, Chelsea boot could work.

My motivation is a girls lunch in London late November with old work colleagues, will probably wear straight jeans, camisole with floaty, sheer top. So I'm thinking boots cant be too chunky, I want to look a bid dressy but cant cope with anything more than a small heel

There was a nice Chelsea boot that someone linked to in fatface.... Worth looking at their online selection as there were a few nice things

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2014 11:39

Ankle boots should be fine but those on the Brantano site are (forgive me but it is true) absolutely hideous. And you will be wearing your jeans over the boots, yep, and not trying to tuck them in?

What colour are your jeans? Do you absolutely want black boots, or would you consider other colours? Can you cope with a block heel?

kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 11:43

I might be a fashion wasteland but even I wouldn't wear straight jeans tucked into boots!!!

I do not know how people have the patience for fashion, I just don't want to look stupid but its too fucking hard.

So I don't bother. And accept I'll look stupid.

Fuckity fuck :(

and now I'm having a pity party --with tears and everything-- over fecking shoes for fecks sake.

bah.

I just got hush puppies Rustique mimi boots and they look great to my mind. They have a block heel but are spongy underfoot so comfortable. They are apparently waterproof too.

The cut of them ( they are close fit around the ankle) would work well with straight leg jeans. You could always cuff your slim legs to show more of the boot off and because they are block heel it won't shorten the look of the leg.

I got the chocolate ones and they have that nice weathered look to them.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2014 11:50

Kiwi - please don't get upset. It's just a matter of trying loads on until you find something comfortable and that 'sit' right with your jeans.

Do you usually buy your shoes in Clarks? Let me link to some from there and see if there's anything you might think are okay. Hang on.

Milmingebag · 12/10/2014 11:51

Oh don't get upset. There are millions of boots to choose from. Those Clarks ones are not nice.

I have seen slim legs styled with those western style shoe boots ( they are barely boots) and they look good together. The heels are not more than an inch either.

Fly London mes might be another good option for a chunkier style but that will fit under slim legs.

What is the style you feel happiest in?

kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 11:53

--gets shit together--

black boots as this is the top I will probably wear top one or I did just buy this fine knit sweater (no weird pattern like photo suggests just detailing on the sleeve) but I've not even tried it on yet, could go brown perhaps.

You won't look stupid! I wear ankle boots with a block heel, although generally I am not a heel wearer. I have these which I would wear with straight leg jeans. And I have these too. I also have a lower heeled pair of black ankle boots from Boden that I can't find online, but similar in shape.

Despite Amazonian proportions, I wear skinny jeans, and with them, I wear bikers over the top.

I now realise I have lots of boots...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2014 11:55

V plain and black but a nice shape imvho

A bit busy maybe but I rather like these Suspect lots of people will hate them though! They come in brown and in black.

I think these will be too high

Dark brown maybe too high but good price!

kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 11:55

Milmingebag · 12/10/2014 12:00

Go brown with the sweater.
